“Nice rooms in wild area”
Reviewed July 27, 2012 via mobile

Positive: nice rooms, good air-conditioning, kitchen, sea-view, clean pool, mini-market in 2 steps
Negative: Italian entertainment extreremely annoying every evening till 00:30 and even in early morning on Monday - nobody wrote about it and that was a surprise, knowing that the hotel is situated in a real countryside without any normal go-out place.
-No taverna-cafe-restaurant in 2 km around, and you cannot deal without a car or moto
-Louis rented us an awful old rubbish moto for 15 euro, though in Kamari you can get a really good one for that price. Secondly, he wanted to give us a Smart for 40€ per day, though we rented the same car in Kamari just for 25!So be careful
-the room is cleaned and the linen are changed only once in 3 days, each day they only change the towels. The staff has a key and often enters the room in the morning without knocking before
- you also should know that the airport is just in 2 steps, but the planes are not such annoying as Italian evening show
- the beach is horrible, but if you have a moto or car, there is a very good sandy beach in Monolithos (1km on the road to Fira). We've chosen the hotel because of the beach, but didn't use it.
- there is no any shampoos or other bath facilities in the room, only liquid soap which is not recharged when is over. You should buy everything in Louis market.
Resume: You should plus the price of a moto-car and essence to the room price, because you cannot live here without a car. I advise you to stay in Kamari, though the studios are not bad at all.
The owners were nice at first sight, but they always try to cheat you and to have profit on everything, and this is very unpleasant.
we stayed in the hotel for 2 weeks.

We booked this place on the strength of the other reviews on here, and whilst the apartments themselves were lovely, clean, functional and the people were truly lovely, there were some issues that other potential customers should know about! Firstly, it isn't near Kamari - be prepared for a bus or 10 euro taxi ride, or to rely on the kind owners for a lift - however we did feel bad about this so we often got a taxi instead. Secondly, there is only really the supermarket (also owned by the family) nearby and that's it. There is a small beach although we took one look at it and decided against ever using it, and a couple of small and shabby cafes. Nothing else in walking distance. Well, the airport is within walking distance to be accurate - you simply could not be closer. The apartments mostly face in the direction of the sea but the planes are very low overhead and despite the staff assuring us we could not hear them from in the room, that wasn't really true. They were not actually intrusive, mainly because they are not very frequent, however be warned as no-one else seems to have mentioned this in their reviews - something which we were actually more annoyed at than anything else!

So if you plan to stay here you need your own transport - life is too short to wait for buses (esp when they turn up already full), so plan for that. The Louis staff and supermarket arranged for us to hire a roadgoing quad bike (very common on the island, along with scooters) for 3 days and it was a godsend. We hadn't really planned to do a sightseeing-intensive trip, but we felt kind of forced to get out of the apartments all day and all night really, in order to have a good time. There is a lot to see, and we might not have seen it all had we stayed somewhere with lots of things in the immediate vicinity so whilst it changed our trip, we still had a great holiday.

On the apartment itself, they are lovely if small (to be expected really), but we did feel they were expensive for what you got. There was a nice balcony, and decent air conditioning. The solar-powered hot water often ran out however. Also there is a hotel aimed at the Italian market just out the back of Louis, and their kids club is very audible from the room/balcony but it didn't carry on till too late and mostly it was peaceful.

Overall it was lovely and the downsides did not cause issues, and even opened up some opportunities for us, but you will want to consider all of it before booking.

Room Tip: all rooms are under the approach/takeoff of aircraft from the very nearby airport. Sea/Pool view apa...
