We are a couple in our mid forties with no kids. We have done lots of Caribbean all inclusive but fancied a change of destination .

We stayed at the Hi Hotel Cala ‘n Bosch between 4th and 18th September on an all inclusive basis.

We flew from Birmingham with Monarch – Despite awful reviews it was excellent. We upgraded the seats which was a good move. The 2 hour flight passed in no time and we were in Menorca. The transfer through ‘resorthoppa’ was ok but a bit lengthy with a few drop offs that made the transfer time about 80 minutes.

We chose the Cala ‘n Bosch for its proximity to the beach. Previous reviews let us know more or less what to expect.

The hotel itself is a little tired but very clean. The rooms are basic but again clean. We requested and got our sea view room on the 3rd floor. The lifts at the hotel need updating – they are small and temperamental.

During our stay the clientele were young English and Italian couples with pre school kids. The dining room is a bit canteen like and can get noisy with crying children and frustrated parents. There is not really the chance to ‘enjoy’ your meal – it is a case of get in – get fed and get out.

You can have ‘house wine’ from a pump with your meal – it was average at best but drinkable.

The food was always buffet style ,but for the price was OK – there are always choices and it never ran out. All tastes were catered for at breakfast.

As previously mentioned the desserts are a bit repetitive.

The pool area is quite nice but showing its age a bit. There are plenty of sunbeds but not as many umbrellas. The pool itself is good and well maintained.

The beach is literally 20 paces from the side of the pool and is really excellent – soft golden sands and clear blue water that gently shelves. When the wind was up the sea was magnificent and reminiscent of Cornwall.

The sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach work out expensive at 5 euros each ie 15 euros a day per couple – but again we knew this and budgeted for it.

The entertainment team – Animacion – are mainly made up of enthusiastic bilingual Italians (Cecilia, Densie,Pier and Sol) complemented by Ramses the Portuguese ‘entertainer .

You could not fault their effort – there were always activities laid on for the kids – Please note that there is absolutely nothing for teenagers to do – it is aimed up to about 8-9 year old kids.

Nightly entertainment was provided and sometimes was so cheesy it could have been made in Wensleydale. For example the Abba tribute act was a threesome! And the Magician was as technically competent as a banana – but to be honest it didn’t matter.

The entertainment team also put on a couple of shows that were Womens Institurte standard – again it didn’t matter. Bingo and a single ticket winning raffle are held every night. Some lucky so and so won 310 euros on a rollover night.

The all inclusive bar is well staffed and the drinks although limited are plentiful. For some reason they bought the entertainment inside and the room got full and hot – it was better when outside and this was helped by staff at the outside bar .

We also budgeted to go to the Marina – literally 5 minutes walk from the hotel. We ate twice at a magnificent fish restaurant called the Aquarium. The food was superb but pricey (100 euros for pre dinner drinks 3 courses, wine, dessert and coffee) - The pounds weakness against the euro is punishing.

We also went to Chaplins bar in the marina a couple of times for drinks – they were more competitively priced and were just a bit dearer than home. The rest of the marina is packed with bars and restaurants and all tastes appeared to be catered for. The Med bar was also great to ‘people watch’

All in all we had a really good holiday at a great location but just make sure you know what to expect – we did our research so there were no ‘rabbits out of the hat’. At the price we paid for this holiday there are no complaints.

We will definitely return to Menorca but may try self catering next time.

If anyone wants to know more please send me a personal message.

Hi,we have just returned from a week at the calan bosch hotel and we have the holiday blues already!!! This was our first family holiday with our 13month old son and we loved every minute! the hotel itself is spotless, the rooms are basic but no different from any other hotel room we have stayed in, I think they are all pretty much the same. The rooms are cleaned every day, clean towels etc. The food was good full english continental etc for bfast,we didn't really eat much at lunch time as the beach was so close and soooo beautiful,we we're to busy playing with he baby or drinking the everlasting san miguel to want to eat! But there were nuggets chips pasta etc at lunch times, dinner was mainly the same,so we atr out a lot at dinner time,it is not cheap!
The fiesta and the steakhouse restaurant are lovley, chaplins do some yummy baggettes too. The actual calan bosch resort is realy clean, there are no dodgy luky luky men or rowdy groups,it is totally catered for familys and kids. I have never seen so many buggies abroad!
Our little boy loved the beach,we had no problems with him,we took him on a bout trip which was amazing,it takes you to 15different beaches, you stop off at 1 beach for 1hr abnd half,it was truly amazing, you have to see it to believe it,deffinatley worth it.
Overall I would say this holiday was fantastic, the beach is just footsteps away from the hotel, white sand, clear blue sea,all the bars reastaurants are a lovely 5min stroll away. The entertainment at the hotel was faultless, I really don't know were the team get there energy from! We would deffinatley return, we loved every minute xxx

P.s don't listen to the bad reviews,I read them all before we went and was a bit worried, but the holiday exceeded my expectations, it was fab!!!!!!

Stayed with teenage daughter and 10 yr old son at end of August. Weather was very hot and there was no breeze. Biggest gripe re this was the lack of parasols around the hotel complex. Many people bought their own as there isn't much 'natural' shade around either although there is more around the kids pool. This is a lovely hotel with friendly staff. The food was plentiful and hot. There was plenty of choice for whatever your taste. As soon as the tray was empty another appeared within minutes. Although dining room got very busy on occasions we never had a problem getting a table. The rooms were quite small but very clean and we have a lovely view over the beach and the marina. The marina altough lovely and quiet during the day comes to life at night and although we didn't eat at any of the restaurants they all looked lovely. You never get any hassle from the bar/restaurant owners as in some other places either. It is a great place to stroll round. Beach is quite small and gets very busy and the sunbeds/parasols are very expensive. Entertainment at hotel is very limited and there is nothing for teenagers. There were a lot of Italians there at the time - possibly more than British but this was never a problem and it was lovely to watch the lads playing football together and not speaking a word of the same language!

Just returned from a lovely week at this hotel.. Travelled with a 2 1/2 year old and a baby.. after reading some of these reviews we did have our concerns but can honestly say we had a great time.

The hotel itself as mentioned by other reviewers is tired in places and the lifts certainly need a revamp of some kind.. travelling with a pram and a toddler meant me and my partner sometimes had to catch the lifts seperately but that is one of the only niggles we had and fairly minor in our opinion. Our room was on the 5th floor with a beautiful view over the pool & beach.. not a massive room but certainly adequate and we managed fine with 2 buggies and all the baby paraphenalia that goes with us.
The food was great in our opinion with plenty of choice and variety, even for my 2 year old.. the desserts did get a little repetitive but I have a sweet tooth and still managed to eat loads.. in fact we've both put a fair bit of weight on so the food must have been good! We only had to queue at the restaurant at lunch time on two occasions and they were the arrival days so can expect to be a little busier but no problem at dinner times.

We spent most of our days by the childrens pool which is great for the youger children and ours loved it, the hotel in general didnt feel that busy and the childrens pool certainly never got overcrowded and we always got sunbeds at about 10am with a choice of location.. we bought a parasol from the local shop at about 7euros to solve the lack of shade problem and just stuck it into the grass, we also used this at the beach (which is also lovely, although was quite busy) and this solved the shade problem there too and saved on having to rent the expensive loungers/shades.
The location of the hotel and the resort itself is great. . We really liked Cala n Bosch, it felt fairly quiet even though it was the end of August/beg of Sep. The roads all around the marina were only small and often pedestrians only so felt very family friendly and safe. Very nice little shopping centre with a few gift shops to look around and also lots of nice bars and restaurants to sit and watch the world go by.. we didnt sample any with being all inclusive but there seemed a nice selection and many geared towards families and the Brittish.

We spent most evenings at the hotel so our daughter could join in at the mini disco which she loved.. the entertainment in general was perhaps not to all tastes and sometimes working with a low budget but we enjoyed it most evenings, and certainly the animation team (esp Ramses!!) work very hard to make it as enjoyable as possible.. there is also the odd profestional external act that preform which were always to a high standard.

Overall we had a great family holiday and would definately recommend this hotel and resort to family and friends more so wiith young children than couples or teenagers.. at the end of the day its a 3 star so not out and out luxury but certainly very nice and spotlessly clean. We are not really ones for going to the same place twice but there is certainly no reason not to, it was a lovely week away.

We stayed at this hotel with another couple and were extremely impressed. It isn't the most modern hotel and when we first arrived we discovered that the lifts (only 2 of them and very small) were quite temperamental, we thought we were going to have to carry our cases up 3 flights of stairs but finally got the lift to work (although we did get stuck in a lift later in the week so always used the stairs).
Our rooms were also a bit dated but very clean and comfortable, there was plenty of storage for 2 people but families might find it inadequate.
Meals were wonderful, plenty of choice, beautifully cooked and always plenty of space in the dining room. The only downside was the desserts which usually consisted of 'mousse' type dishes which we didn't enjoy at all although there was fresh fruit as an alternative.
The staff are great, very friendly and helpful, as are the entertainment team who work very hard! The entertainment wasn't always to our taste and sometimes we'd go to the marina but overall it was very enjoyable and relaxed.
The best thing about this hotel for us was the location. The beach next to the hotel was beautiful and the sea very clean and clear although, as we stayed in August, it did get extremely busy. We tended to go over to the other beach at Son Xoriguer (past the Aldea hotel which also looked gorgeous), the beach there isn't as good but the snorkelling is fabulous by the rocks, it's like being in an aquarium, the fish just swim right up to you and there are so many different types...we even saw an octopus. If you enjoy snorkelling you have to try here!!!
The Marina is just a short walk away and there is a good assortment of restaurants and a few shops. We went to the 'Aquarium' restaurant as a special treat for a wedding anniversary and I would highly recommend it. It's quite expensive but the meal was well worth the money, it was cooked to perfection, beautifully presented and the service was faultless. I had rack of lamb and I couldn't believe how much lamb was on my plate.
We didn't have any children with us but I imagine it would be a great holiday for younger ones but there's not much for teenagers to do so they'd probably be bored.
I would definitely return to this hotel and recommend it to friends, I wish I was back there now!!!!!!
