Not sure how this hotel is listed as Sol Gavilanes as it really is the Sol Falco.
As two mature couples we stayed at this hotel for one week from the 28th June. We had read TripAdvisor reviews which were generally good but were a little concerned as this is primarily a family hotel where there would be a lot of children. We need not have worried. The hotel is so spaciously designed that you can always find a quiet spot. The hotel is extremely well run. every member of the staff seems to know what their job is and they get on with it in a friendly and efficient manner. The fabric of the hotel is in very good condition and all areas are well maintained. The gardens are quite extensive. The food quality and choice is as good as I have experienced and is much better than some four star hotels that I have stayed in. Food is constantly replenished so always looks appealing. We did not experience the entertainment apart from hearing it on the terrace as the entertainment hall although large, is extremely cramped as the hotel tries to get as many people as possible in to see it. The location of the hotel is very good being a short walk along a well made up path to the beach. A bus stop is right outside the hotel making it very easy to visit the old city of Ciutadella at a cost of 1.95 euro per person each way. A taxi will cost approx 16 euro.
The only negative comment is that the only bar in use in the evening is in the entertainment hall so this bar even though the staff are very efficient is very busy.
Overall, you will not fail to enjoy your stay at this hotel.

just back from a week in this hotel with my husband (both in our 50's) and have had a brilliant holiday. The Hotel is absolutely spotless from morning till night and the grounds/gardens are immaculate. Our room was great with a free safe and overlooked one of the smaller pools. These smaller pools tended to be fairly quiet as the majority of the families would be round the huge pool in the centre of the complex. The food was excellent (and my husband is very fussy and a great chef) and nothing was repeated during the week we were there. Sometimes the restaurant could be a little noisy but we either ate outside in the courtyard or a little bit later in the main restaurant. The reception staff went out of their way to help us when my husband tore a ligament in his leg jumping in the pool! They quickly got the lifeguard who bandaged it and then one of the ladies on reception brought some cushions and ice to the bar for my husband and then came back 15 minutes later with a crutch she had found behind reception! This same lady enquired after my husbands leg every single day after that which was lovely of her. The entertainment at night is not usually something we watch and we sat outside on the terrace bar every night apart from the last one when the entertainment team put on The Lion KIng and about 40 children were involved in it. They were all dressed up with faces painted and it actually made me cry it was so lovely. It is a 15 minute slow stroll along the road to the marina or a 30 minute stroll along the headland. The marina was small but had some decent bars and a few shops. There was a bus stop across from the hotel but we didnt venture anywhere else as the hotel had everything we needed. I would definately go back to this hotel and would recommend it.

just returned from the sol falco this hotel is very clean , lovely pools . great food and good evening entertainment . my only complaints are that the entertainment team ignore the english speaking guests and only interact with the spanish and italians and beware of the grumpy lifeguard who stopped me and my 4 year old grandaughter playing with a beach ball in the pool , he seems to enjoy stopping children having fun .on the whole the remaining staff are helpful and friendly

Stayed a week at Sol Falco 18th to 26th June hotel had a brilliant time . We emailed the hotel prior to arriving to ask for a ground floor due to our fearless 4 year old and was advised they would allocate if they had availability. We got a ground floor room which was brilliant however I can confirm vikkiterry`s comments on the door issue. There is a lock on the inside but only to stop entry from outside. It is a safety issue and so we put our large case infront to prevent him from being able to do it. Sorry to have to mention this but a 2 year child actually drowned in different resort in menorca in 2006 by similar circumstances, very sad preventable tradgedy...not at Sol Falco . A swing guard type fixture used in other hotels would suffice as it wouldn't lock the door but stop the exploring wee ones- . Another note ...our bathroom floor was marble ...wet and marble not good. I slipped and fell on my well padded butt thank god I ate alot of crossiants . There is a small bath matt but you need to use the whole bath towel and as you get fresh towels everyday its no issue ...just a warning

Pools were fantastic ... Big kids pool was great..they do pool aerobics everyday at 1200 which a lot got involved in ..Emillio is just mental ...reminded me of Gino de campo:-) the next pool down was 1.9m and the next 2.3m deep other pools 1.5m. Their is a life guard on through the day at the main pool...quiet pools nice too amongst the trees with the birds singing away. Good 25 meter to do lengths . Its a put your towel on the sunbeard early kind of place but usually beds left over for late risers however if you want one next to the fixed umbrella shade get up early and hog.

Food loads of choice ...what we expected for a family all inclusive although plenty of restaurants down the harbour if you tire of the big busy hall buffet style eatery .... The donuts filled with chocolate ...dangerous once you have one they've got hold of you-addictive so good.

Kids club we used a few times...one day was a pirate themed day and it was brilliant. 10 euros and they were in all day with fun packed activities ...mixed nationalities so the club staff spoke in all languages. Used the baby rock club for 2 hours a couple times in the afternoon on the really hot days ....kept him out the sun and it was free. We also put him in the bam bam club another day even though its for 5_8 year olds as more activities . If you use the bam bam club note there is a break for few hours for lunch and we didn't realise so didn't go collect him. Bad parents. The club staff are amazing and genuinely love kids they work so hard ...they even do entertainment on the night....kids mini disco at 9pm.

We would go back and we would recommend it was great. Staff were brilliant and it was clean .

There is a safety issue and I hope Sol Falco take action or at the very least warn guests that doors are not locked from the inside just a lock for the outside in. We are responsible for our children however I believe that there is a duty of care with the hotel.

If you've got young children, you can't go wrong with the Sol Falco......if you haven't got any have a good think about going here because we've never been to a more child friendly hotel......but I'm not sure whether we'd have enjoyed this place as much going as just a couple.
We went as a party of eight, including three grandchildren, two of whom were only one year old. We emailed beforehand and asked for rooms close together in a quieter are of the complex.....we got rooms on the ground floor level right next to each other, in the middle of the complex, away from any traffic noise.....just perfect ( Hacienda block ).
The hotel has a central complex which houses reception, the dining room, the entertainment complex and alongside are the three main swimming pools with the toddlers pool. Rooms are in small three storey blocks surrounded by lovely gardens and pathways and interspersed with smaller swimming pools and sun bathing areas. Just a word of caution, if you have toddlers in buggies ask for groundfloor accomodation, as there are no lifts and carrying toddlers / buggies up the stairs might be a bit of a bind. The rooms are bright, airy, have air con and are in pretty good repair. There's a tv and fridge, but no brewing equipment, so take your own if your partial to an early morning / late night cuppa.
The dining room is a noisy, happily chaotic buffet service madhouse ( think school restaurant ) with plenty of very tasty choices for little 'uns as well big 'uns, lots of high chairs and plenty of family sized tables. The food is very good, plentiful and replenished on a regular basis......if you're all inclusive there's a ( free ) snack bar if you get hungry between meals, or just need to top up. Altho' you have to get drinks from the bar, they're well manned and you would be unlucky to have to wait for more than a few seconds to get served.
The entertainment is family orientated, a bit cheesy on some nights ( think updated Butlins ) and pretty varied, so altho' the Lion King show was very good, the room had more or less emptied by the time a modern dance troupe had completed their set. By midnight the bars have closed and the complex generally is very quiet overnight.
The main pools, and the ones dotted around the complex are very nice but beware, only the toddlers pool and one of the main pools could be classed as paddling / leisure type pools, the others vary from 1.5 - 2.3 metres deep with no gradual increases in depth.....one small child left the shallow pool and jumped into the interlinked next pool before dad could stop him and went right under....fortunately dad was right behind and pulled him out. There is a lifeguard on duty on the main pools' complex but just be aware.
Entertain for adults during the day is the usual footie, boules, volleyball, shooting stuff....all perfectly enjoyable. 3 - 12 year olds are catered for by the Settemari club, which seems very popular judging by the noise the children make, but you do have to pay for it ( not sure of the cost ). There is a creche for 0 - 3 year olds from 09 - 17.00hrs, which is free for a couple of hours in the middle of the day, but costs 3 euros / hour outside this time.
The resort centre with a mix of shops, bars and restaurants is only a five minute easy walkaway, well worth a visit for at least one evening.
As with other Sol hotels we've visited, probably the main selling point of the hotel is undoubtedly the staff, who are unvariably happy, proficient, friendly, outgoing and seem to take great pride in their jobs and ensuring you have a good holiday......they all deserve a big pat on the back.
So, if you've got children I can't recommend this place highly enough but if you haven't........I'm sure you would still have a great holiday but you have been warned.

We just returned yesterday and i feel i have to bring to parents attentionA very serious safty issue that i feel is a disaster waiting to happen.YOu are unable to lock the apartment doors from inside my son knocked on my door early one morning frantic as his two young sons age 1 and 2 were gone he woke to find the door open and the boys nowhere to be seen!! our whole family eight of us ran around the complex in sheer panic checking the eight pools praying they hadnt gone near them we then headed to reception for police to be called thank god some one had already found them accross the road and had taken them there they had been there for forty five minuets the manager said it

is their safty policy that u can not lock yourself in so as they can gain access at any time he said you can turn the lock and it makes door slightly harder to open the police agreed this was not the case and was far to easy for young children to get out i would imagine this is not the first time and not the last!!!! the hotel does not inform u that the door can not be locked from inside and if you have turned the supposed lock you would presume its secure my son and his partner spent the rest of the holiday pushing furniture against the door so it couldnt happen again. Other than that it is a fantastic place clean friendly staff good food plenty of entertainment for both children and adults and we all really enjoyed the rest of our holiday and apart from the door issue would recommend.

Dear Vikkiterry,

Thank you for taking you valuable time to share your comments.
First of all, thank you for your kind words about our facilities, food and staff of the Hotel.

After this experience, I have to admit that we also were surprised to find two small children walking so early without their parents around the hotel. Fortunately, when his parents realized that children were not in the room, the children were already being cared for at the reception of our hotel.
As police determined, our doors meet all the standards required by law, but you must enable the insurance correctly, to make it work.

Your opinion is very important to us and you can be sure that the management and the staff will use every one of your comments to improve our services.

Regards
