“Map is wrong, hotel good so far”
Reviewed November 30, 2013 via mobile

The app's map shows the wrong location, putting it some 12 miles inland from where this Hotel is actually found. It's right next door to the Elba on Caleta's beachfront, the huge terracotta-coloured twins next to the Atlantico shopping mall and the cinema.

We stayed here for 10 days in november in room 450. 2 adults 1 three yr old in a 1 bedroom but with an added single bed. the hotel is excellent three pools , one for children which is heated one unheated and one heated they are all clean and well kept with towels available whenever you want. We stayed bed and breakfast as we like to go out at night , the breakfasts are superb there is nothing that is not available. The hotel is spottlessly clean and well looked after.
The best part about the stay though was staff espeicially the staff at breakfast they are superb espeicially Tatijana and Adamma who are so friendly and happy to see you even though they are very busy.
Contrary to other people i think there is a lot to do on the island espeicially if you like beach sports and there are some of the best beaches i have ever seen. there is a lot of hidden history on the islands people just need to buy a guide book and read it.
I hope to go back i loved it and wish i stayed longer.

Plus:
- Big and quiet rooms with all the aminities you need
- Friendly and hard working staff
- Great layout of the swimming pool
- Direct access to the beach
- Big buffet with good selection
- Great for parents with (very) young kids
- Late checkout (12:00)

Minus:
- Printing service at the wifi area was offline during our one week stay
- In general, things that get broken seem to take forever to get fixed. Don't hold your breath!
- With 1.93 meters my feet were outside of the "Sweet sleeper" bed.
- Commercial air lines fly directly over the hotel. Might be a problem for some plane haters :-)

Long story:
We had a wonderful stay at the Sheraton Fuerteventura in November 2013. We definitely recommend this 5 star hotel, despite its minor shortcomings.

Although we booked via a tour operator, we were delighted to get a sea view room on the 4th floor. The fourth and fifth floor seem to have the best views on the Atlantic ocean and provide more privacy. 3rd floor and lower floors have a public area in front of the room terraces, so guests can walk by on the same level. The best thing in the early morning is to put on your robe and watch the beautiful sun rise on your private balcony, relaxing in the comfortable furniture until break fast buffet opens at 8.30. So that's why we appreciated the extra privacy on the 4th (and 5th) floor.

The standard "deluxe" rooms are very spatious, with directly at the entrance a big two basin bathroom with the bath/shower seperated from the toilet/bidet by glass doors on each side. Next is a long corridor with a four-door-cabinet for hanging up clothes or putting them on the shelves or in the drawers, there's a free small safe and ofcourse the minibar with snacks and drinks. If you think the minibar is too expensive (which it is!): there's a Eurospar supermarket nearby with the same products.

The "Sweet Sleeper" bed is very comfortable -not too hard and not too soft-. Although I got tangled up in all the different sheets and pillows and with 1.93 meters my feet were outside of the bed. The room is very quiet, so no humming or buzzing noises. The glass sliding door keeps out all the noises from the center garden. So the nights are very quiet! It's dark too, with double curtains. But be sure to shut off the air conditioning if you think it's too chilly in the room, as there's no heating available. You can set the airco to a higher temperature but it doesn't do much good, like in most hotels we've visited over the years..... The floor is all tiles, so this gives a cold feeling as well. But don't worry, one day of sun and 23 degrees will give you a perfect room temperature all night.

The spatious room has a big LCD TV, desk, glass table, couch and ofcourse a great view from the big balcony! Left and right you have non-transparant glass panels which offers 95% privacy, but also bounce off much noise from neighbouring chats and the water fall in the garden. But if you want complete privacy and quiet, you better get the more expensive suite or don't go a resort. It didn't bother us much with such a great view!

We had taken the half board option, which means you get breakfast buffet and either lunch or diner buffet. I recommend to take half or full pension as it's not easy to find a decent restaurant in the nearby area and it will not be much cheaper. You pay around 23 euros per person per buffet (excluding drinks). Breakfast is normally included in the room rate.

You can eat á la carte and get a 50% discount if you have booked half (or full) board. But keep in mind that only one of the three á la carte restaurants is open during the evening, one is only open for lunch at the swimming pool and the other two are each open half a week. So you can take a seat in the Asian restaurant with reasonably good food or in the nicely decorated grill restaurant. Because most people have half/full board, it's alway very quiet in these two restaurants. Definitely better for a romantic dinner! The buffet is a different story.

The buffet restaurant is on the ground floor (-1). The buffet is enormous, with a wide variety of food. The quality is ok to very good. Apart from the dozen of platters with warm and cold meats, fishes, cheeses, fruit, bread, dessert cakes etcetera. You can also have some basic live cooking for a freshly made omelette in the morning or grilled fish/meat in the evening. Each day has a different theme (like Spanish, Asian, Italian etc.) for the cooked food.

What you can expect from a buffet, is ofcourse a very informal atmosphere, with guests filling their plates and staff walking around cleaning up tables etc. So it's noisy and therefore great if you have kids. They don't have to sit straight all evening and don't have to be quiet. And there were many guests with kids! Please take this into account.

The swimming pool (with towel service and lunch bar) is very big and VERY COLD! Although the air temperature (20 to 23 degrees Celsius) was great in November, the water was ice cold. But just jump in and you'll get used to it! The kids pool is a different story, this water is luke warm. So again a great place for guests with kids. If you walk through the security doors near the pool, you are immediately at the beach, also with free sun beds and a safe swimming bay.
If you like to touch the sand and salty water with your bare feet, this is the place to be!

The area around the swimming pool offer a nice walk, but also all sort of activitities like a mini golf court (with the surface in poor condition, but still great fun), one basket ball court, a single rifle shooting/archery lane, one tennis court and a kid entertainment area (Yambala Land or something). I read some complaints about the opening hours, but it was open every day during our stay from 10:00 to 17:00 I think. Despite 200+ rooms, you can go out and play tennis, basketball or minigolf any time of the day without waiting hours. But this might be different during the summer.

The swimming pool has a nice bar for the lunch. This is actually the fourth restaurant of the hotel, so you only have one á la carte restaurant for the lunch and two for diner, but only one is open in the evening.

The reception and staff is very friendly, also to the little ones. Kids are absolutely no problem. The staff works very hard. The rooms were cleaned very properly each day. You can also get a 5 euro per day discount on your invoice if you choose to not have the room cleaned (up to three nights). You will have to be a Starwood Prefered Guest, which is a free Starwood (Sheraton) award program.

Any downsides? Well if something is broken, it seems to take a long while before it gets fixed. Our room was perfect, but the printing service in the wifi area was broken during our complete stay. The public toilet was a mess with broken doors and more. The list goes on. This definitely needs to be improved for a 5 star hotel.

For some this might be annoying: the flight landing path of the incoming air planes is directly above the hotel. The airport is nearby so they're pretty low as well. I didn't mind, it's low noise and it adds to the holiday feeling. But on busy days around 20 planes will land. Other days around 10 I think. They don't land during the nights.

But the room rates are very good. You can get a room for around 100 euros per night including breakfast for two. This was in November. It's best to contact reservations to get a good quote, especially if you travel with kids under 3 years. Tour operators will charge extra for the little ones. If you book via the Sheraton most of the times kids up to 3 years can stay for free in your room.

The Fuerteventura Island is relatively boring if you compare it to Tenerife or Gran Canaria. But the hotel offers enough for a great week. I don't think a longer stay is advisible.

Be sure to check out the Oasis Park in the South of the Island. It's a great zoo with a marvellous hill layout. You can feed the giraffes, elephants, camels etc. for 1 euro per fruit bag (very cheap) and swim with a sea lion for around 40 euros. Well worth the money!

Room Tip: Request a room on the 4th or 5th floor for the best views. But don't worry, all rooms are the sa...

We just stayed from October 12 to 27 and had a very enjoyable holiday. The location is perfect, staff is very friendly and if something gets messed up, all effort is done to fix things, animation program is very enthusisastic and great for the kids. Food is good (restaurants, breakfast) and overall very good value for money (food and drinks). Rooms we had were very spacious, some wear and noise from the entertainment below, but overall really good and superbly cleaned. Minuses: the gym seemed to be cleaned less: simply not enough. The 2nd week was just packed, and not allways with the politest of guests: then breakfast became horror and just unpleasant (factory cantine like): really puts me off: I'm not going on October holidays to be among the masses (victim of its success?). Pluses: the staff, the location, the beach, the beach bar, Thomas (animacion), Monika (pool restaurant) and the overall manager (he's very present and considerate). We will return.

Nowadays, as I mutate into a grumpy old man, its rare to get through a hotel stay without my finding problems with the accomodation, food, staff or whatever.
However the Sheraton has restored my faith in hotel star ratings.
The room was spacious, well furnished and had an excellent sea view.
The buffet breakfast offered something for all tastes, and the cheerful 'can do' attitude of the staff at all levels was a real eye opener.
I think the best recommendation I can give is that I intend to return next year.

Room Tip: The higher, the better!!

This was our second visit here and we had a fantastic week. The staff could not be more helpful and the room was of a great standard. The food had improved since last year with lots of choice every night and should you not find something you liked on the buffet, there was always freshly cooked steak, chicken or fish available.

As this was our second visit, coffee and tea were free of charge in the room and we were given one free entry to the spa. On arrival, the management had arranged for a fruit platter to be placed in our room which was a lovely touch.

Thomas who ran the kids club is a fantastic addition to the team. He was great with the kids and, with his amazing energy, encouraged participation from everyone. Hopefully he will be here to stay!

The only downside we found was the state of the pool tiles. There are a number of tiles missing in each of the pools and this really needs repaired to avoid accidents. The pools were still accessible however, you just had to be careful you didn't stand on a broken area.

It is only a 5 min walk to the shopping centre and a 10 min walk into the main part of the resort and is right on the beach, giving the hotel a perfect location.

Overall this is a great destination for a quiet family holiday. We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Request a high room - the sea view is great.
