“Buffalo bar lets this hotel down badly ”
Reviewed April 1, 2014 via mobile

Hotel was fine, food as expected. The problem is the all inclusive Buffalo Bar. The Manager Tony is rude, offensive, very aggressive and I even saw him grab one of the staff and hurt her. I hope she does something about it as she has not been seen behind the bar since. Drinks are served in plastic kiddicups and no straws allowed if you are all inclusive. I was told they are for paying customers only. Surely I PAID WHEN I BOOKED MY HOLIDAY!! Even if you are not going to sit by the pool you are not allowed a drink in a glass until after the watershed 9pm. No vodka, gin or brandy for 3 days while we were there. No chips, no cheese for the very poor ai snacks which consisted of cheese burger and chips (without cheese or chips), toasted cheese and ham sandwich (without cheese) or hot dog. One day there was even no milk for the coffee.
Reserved signs put on all comfortable chairs again told these were for paying customers only and not us all inclusives we were to sit at the back or outside on plastic garden chairs. When the bar is busy you cant even get served when they do have any vodka as they usually only have one bar staff working who has to cook the ai food, serve the drinks, and do everything basically while the Managers Tony and Toni either swan about or sit at the end of the bar barking orders. Staff are run off their feet trying to keep up and are always apologising for the poor management and stupid segregation rules. If you actually want to eat or drink anything you should go somewhere else. Entertainment.... well what can I say it never started on time. Some of the acts are good, Kevin, Silly and Cher, Johnny but OMG the Manager Tony sings most nights or tries to and he is rubbish. We left every time he came on as we would rather pay for a drink than sit and listen to him. While we were there two of the good acts quit. Risco Dorada is a nice hotel but no way can I recommend the Buffalo Bar it is rubbish, not all inclusive friendly and run by the tightest cheapskates I have ever met.

Overall this is a nice hotel in a lovely situation, It has only been all inclusive for the last 8 months. The staff in the restaurant, reception and bar are very friendly. The food selection was very good, although at times cold but there is a microwave to compensate for this. The main problem is with the poor excuse of a man who manages the Bufalo bar. He has no respect for all inclusive guests and places reserved notices on tables for what he describes as "paying guests" The bar was forever running out of drinks and when informed by the bar girls, he did nothing about the situation. This man was constantly hovering over customers to see how many drinks were apparent on the table. We were served drinks in very small plastic cups( like childrens party cups) and you could not have a glass until after 8.00pm!! This man was arrogant, rude, had no people skills and brings down what could potentially be a great hotel!!!

Room Tip: Choose a room well away from the noise of the Bufalo bar

Just returned from a lovely week in Fuerteventura, we stayed here self catering, originally we were put in room 3125 and its situated right above the Kings Arms pub and the noise was just too much for us to bear we nipped down to reception and asked for a change and it was not a problem so next morning we were given a much better room 3305,, loved this room had a great view of the busy street, it also had a bit more utensils ect: The pool area is lovely and relaxing. We have been in this area before and we realy like the Buffalo bar and all the staff, the music acts are great and my hubby liked to go in to watch the football on the big screen have a few beers and a chat with Tony, Luna Blue cocktail bar is lovely and a real nice menu, aswell as snacks. We will be back. we got a great deal with On the beach, cheap and cheerful.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms above the kings arms

Well where do I start, the positives, the hotel rooms are ok but a bit tiered, food in the restaurant is ok but can be a bit cold but there is a microwave available for you to use and you can have coffee/tea with every meal, the staff in the hotel and restaurant are very helpful. Now the negatives, the hotel has a lovely pool but it is very very cold. There is only one AI restaurant, and one AI bar. The Buffalo bar is the worst I have ever been to, the managers are not AI friendly, you are treated as second class citizen by them, The husband & wife managers tell the staff what they can and can’t do for the AI guests, and you see them whisper in there ear if they have done something that they should not have, like give you the wrong plastic cups. The spirits ran out (Vodka, Gin, and Brandy) and were not replaced for two days. The bar is not a lovely place to relax in but there is nowhere else to go in the hotel for the AI guests. The bar staff are lovely, (Tracy, Chanel and Mia), they do a great job with what they have which is not a lot, during the day there is only one girl on and they have to serve the drinks and cook the snacks and serve them, I really don’t know how they do it all I can say is “well done girls”. There is no entertainment for children only adults and this starts very late in the evening and finishes well after 11 o’clock when the AI finishes and when you get drinks in to see you through the show you are told by the management that you have too many drinks on the table. This hotel should not be an AI it should revert back to Self-catering or Half board. Get rid of the Buffalo bar!!!. People be warned.

Hotel would have been good if we had gone self catering, rooms were large and clean. on our first night in the buffalo bar, which is run by different managment there was no Brandy or vodka. I personally went out and bought my own. Food was ok if a little on the cold side, there was a microwave there to warm food. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

When we booked this hotel it was the Castillo suite Hotel . It was dropped by Thomas Cook from there Brochure . Says it all .
But our holiday went ahead as they do not offer an alternative. The Hotel is o.k. And in a nice location.
The problem is with the all inclusive policy.
This appears to be franchised to on site bar and restaurant. Run by different managers. Food on the all inclusive was good as it is only a small hotel and a large choice would not be practical.
A little poor at cleanliness the place mats would often be stained with split drink/food from previous meals.
The problem we mainly had was with the Buffalo bar. If you are a drinker do not mind plastic glasses don't want lemon with a Gin and tonic don,t mind the fact that they often run out of local spirits and are happy with the manageress asking you to take your own glasses(allowed a glass at night in bar) back to the bar ever time you drink then this 1star bar is for you. The staff are very good and do try. But they are restricted by their management.
As an all inclusive customer you are made to feel inferior to paying customers. Not a good experience . Have never experienced this before so not only would we not return to this hotel or any in its chain. It has marred my experience of Fuerteventura and would in future go to the other islands where we have been made to feel like guest. Not a nuisance .

Room Tip: Room with sea view was really good.

The hotel is fine and well cleaned. The food is fine and well presented. The seafront location is fine and central. The staff are superb, friendly and more than helpful.

However the rude man who owns/manages? The buffalo bar (which is the only place you can drink if you are all inclusive ) needs a personality transplant. He runs the bar in a dictatorial manner, favouring paying guests over all inclusive guests even down to where you are allowed to sit. The bar regularly runs out of drinks for all inclusive guests yet the paying customer area of the bar is always well stocked with drinks. The all inclusive snacks menu amounted to burger and chips not as advertised on the hotel welcome leaflet. One day the bar ran out of chips!!! Another day it ran out of cheese for cheese burgers!!! Mr Rude man treats his staff and customers with contempt. This is a fine hotel which is being brought down by one person. It's a great shame.
