Stayed here for a week with 2 Kids(8 and 9) and we all had a great week, even after a bad start! When we arrived there had been a mix up with our bookings and they moved us to another hotel close by for our first night! in fairness our room was ready by 11am the next day and they upgraded us to all inclusive for 3 days as compensation! Entertainment was excellent the team work really hard to include everyone not only at the pool all day but also in the bar at night, in particular Thomas and Kay! I thought the food was excellent and cant understand how anyone could say there wasnt any variety! I spoke to many other people there who felt the same. If i was going again with the kids i would definitley book all inclusive. Rooms were basic but sufficient and clean. yes you pay for tv but thats pretty common. sunbeds, yes you need to get your towels on them early but again this is pretty common! all in all i would say this is a great family hotel, great entertainment and good food.

We booked our hotel at the Broncemar Beach with Airtours (Thomas Cook) Kids World so we were expecting something fully suitable for kids and the write up in the website sounded good for the hotel and the kids entertainment with a 3* PLUS rating. We've done all inclusive many times and always go 3 star as we find 4&5 star hotels a bit to posh when you are on a children’s holiday.

We found many things did not meet our expectations and a few things good so this is our story.

The Broncemar has a large ranch style feel but none of the rooms have a good view or balcony with privacy when you want to relax at night when the kids are in bed.

We arrived at the Broncemar on the 22 June 2011 and our first impression arriving on the coach was good. Our first allocated room 164 was bad, really bad and I do mean really bad. From something growing on the sofa beds, dust, dust and more dust under the beds, cob webs, rusting plate holders in the cupboard, rusting fridge, cracked floor tiles, tiles missing from the walls, cracked tile to side of bath, rusting light fitting and a very dirty fire alarm detector on the ceiling, furniture falling apart and lots and lots of small spiders which bit the kids and NO AIR CONIDITIONING and a TV you have to put 1 Euro coins in which does not last long and no hair dryer, soap or shampoo. Not a room we were prepared to spend a single night in.

Around 5.30pm we went to reception and complained showing many photos of how bad the room was. We were immediately offered room 401 and asked to inspect it first. This room was one of approx. 10 which have recently been refurbished to a GOOD standard and have air conditioning and a lot of attention to detail has been put into the room, i.e. tiles in bathroom match going around the corners, beds and sofa beds are very comfortable. We did ask for it to be further cleaned as it needed it and a door handle put back on before taking the room which was done, but they still missed cleaning on top of the wardrobe and tops of mirror and pictures etc and there was a large crack on the wall from floor to ceiling, however it was acceptable as nothing better was available but all the rooms should be to this standard as a minimum.

We also had a meeting with the manager and Elaine (Thomas Cook Rep) at 7.00pm as based on the first room and what we had seen so far we were not sure if we would stay a second day. The hotel manager and Elaine were very understanding and apologetic, the manager even came and inspected the first room with us, can’t fault him at all.

The next day Thomas Cook did offer 4 alternative hotels at first but later said there was no suitable availability at these hotels so had to stay where we where. There was availability at the Barcelo which is a 5* large hotel / spa resort but not suitable for kids and no Thomas Cook entertainment for the kids, but I would think great for a couples holiday.

Reception Area & Staff - the reception area has recently been re-decorated and still a bit bare at this stage, we found the reception staff welcoming and approachable at all times.

Restaurant - recently re-decorated to an OK standard and clean, a few plates were chipped. Food was cooked to a very good standard and hot. Food choice was a bit limited for adults and very limited for the kids and ended up buying food for the kids on more than one occasion. Note kids are not allowed to get their own food or drinks - very frustrating, and no low level food area for the kids. Staff good but they could interact a bit with the kids.

Snack bar - basic selection, but again well cooked, but there are no snacks in the evening which we found frustrating. Ice cream is only Free between noon and 5.00pm and is not the best ice cream in the world. Next to the free ice cream freezer are 2 other freezers with paid for ice cream which is open all the time, not good.

Stage/pool bar - 3 male staff members, older chap works very hard at all times but does not speak much engish. Chap 40ish with black glasses works hard, but very ignorant all week to all, not even a grunt off him when he does your drinks no mater how hard you try. Younger chap with tattoo on arm we did not see much but when we did he integrated well with all and worked hard. You are given your drinks in coke cola cup or a throw away plastic cup day and night even if you are not sitting pool side, they say for safety, however if you buy a drink you have your drink in a glass. Coke cola cups and throw away plastic ones are really annoying, cheap and spoil the drinks. AGAIN KIDS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO GET THEIR OWN DRINKS - why is this have they not paid for this holiday - NOT GOOD. Area OK and kept clean most of the time.

Entertainment team - there are 4 entertainment staff, when all four are on site things are very good but not so good when only 2 are on site which was approx 50% of the time. However I would say overall they are GOOD. My only slight complaint is BECK (think this is her name) does tend to ignore the kids a little but I would still give her 8 out of 10 which is good, but Stevie, Tom and Kay (think this is her name - tall, sings well and always smiling) are very very good. Evening entertainment is a bit gappy, cheezy but good (except for the animal shows) and they need some better equipment, PA system sounds terrible. NOTE you pay for kids face painting and clapping hands etc at three euros a time. Had not paid for face painting anywhere before. PLEASE THOMAS COOK REMOVE THE GAPS KIDS GET BORED QUICKLY. You also pay for Thomas Cook kids t-shirts, bag and hats etc, which have always been free on other holidays.

From 4.00pm on Monday 27 June there was NO Thomas Cook entertainment until the following day as they all went out on a Thomas Cook organised booze cruise, kids bored all evening.

The main show for the night at 10.00pm on three occasions involved animals, at the start of the show you are informed not to take photos so as not to frighten the animals, a big cover up as the shows all offer photos with the animals at the end of the show with large flash cameras and you are expected to pay ten euro’s per picture. I would guess a nice little commission earner for Thomas Cook.

Swimming Pools and Pool Area - Except for the first day when the pool water was cloudy the water was always clear and very little rubbish / dirt in the bottom of the pool. The children’s pool should be discribed as a toddler pool as it is OK for toddlers only and very small, the 2 large pools are over a mtr deep so not the best unless your kids can swim. Spa we only seen working once or twice for a short period, not comfortable anyway. WE DID NOT SEE A LIFE GAURD AT ALL. Area around pools are very slippery and as such wooden walkways have been installed. We saw many kids slip and a couple of adults badly. Lots of new sun umbrellas, you will need to get up early and place towels to get a sun lounger. NO LIGHTS ON IN THE POOL IN THE NIGHT – IF YOUR KID FALLS IN YOU WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO SEE THEM

Arcade area - clean however the equipment and pool tables are old and need changing.

Irish bar - did not use as it did not open until 9.00pm. Note all-inclusive finishes at 11.00pm after this time you pay for your drinks in here. It closes 2.00am I think.

General maintenance - lots of broken tiles on floors, several fire extinguishers on the RED, most of the fire hose boxes smashed. Lids missing to some electrical items which the kids could access. Smashed glass on top of a fire hose box, and tiles ready to fall on your head from one over head walkway.

Kids club - our 3 year old loved it. Our 7 year old would not attend, as there were no kids his age going. Street Skills Soccer School not available for the first 4 days - our 7 year old was not impressed and bored as a result, no t-shirt or certificate given. Needs more for the older kids, fine for the under 5 I would say. Did not see any E3 Stage and Film Academy all week, No Splash Kids swim lessons all week. No Dizzy and Shades on 4 out of 7 nights. No panto. Drop-in Club – any age, any time not the case only a few hours a day. Only one evening session all week and this we had to pay for. Dizzy and Shades party night you pay extra for.

Soft play room - very unsafe with lots of exposed steel work - see photos

Tennis court – falling apart. Playground small with large stones on floor by wall.

Plant, trees and shrubs - very well kept and maintained.

Over all I would say this hotel is a Pontins in the sun, poor accommodation but good entertainment most of the time.

The manger has only been at the hotel a couple of years and you can see he is doing what he can to improve the hotel and we understand this takes time, but do the work and then send us there. The hotel we were informed was downgraded from a 3* plus to 3 star two weeks prior to us arriving but NOT BY THOMAS COOK OR AIRTOURS.

Bad points no soap or shampoo in rooms or hairdryer. No soap in toilet for 3 days. You pay for the TV. OK it says PAY TV on the website but you assume this is for the likes of movie channels NOT ALL CHANNELS. You can hire a hairdryer and desk top fan for your room at €15 each per week.

Would we go again? NO and this is probably the worst all inclusive we have been on, but money is being spent here but we think it needs spending faster. Did talk to several people who have been to the Broncemar several times all inclusive and love it, but talking to them they have not tried a Thomson all inclusive. Feels like the owners of the hotel and Thomas Cook / Airtours are letting the manager, staff and guests down.

Who do we blame for this holiday not being the best - Thomas Cook / Airtours as it did not meet the expectations you get with it being described as 3* Plus and a KIDS WORLD. If it was described as an all inclusive 2* with entertainment I think we would have found it acceptable.

Additional details point awards based upon the first room - room 401 was acceptable - just.

The area / resort outside the hotel are well kept and clean. Airport looks new or recently refurbished. There was always a breeze of wind.

Tip take taxi rather than coach transfer - less than 10 mins away from airport, so around €10 each way I would think much cheaper than the £100 we were charged for the coach transfer and no waiting or early pick up to return home.

Noise from aircraft coming into land - but not too bad and does not disturb sleep.

Manager and most of the staff deserve better a better hotel.

Definitely not a 3* PLUS hotel as per write up, we’ve had better 3* all inclusive holidays for less money.

Over 100 photos taken of un-satisfactory things.

A good glossy brochure / website and you expect some things like soap, shampoo, hairdryer, TV and air conditioning to be included as standard these days and we have always had them before at 3* hotels and this is supposed to be a 3*Plus hotel, with Airtours Thomas Cook don’t assume this.

Other – our plane outbound was dirty, had no TV’s or radio or music. We did not get our ordered special meal. Staff good. Homebound again no TV’s etc.

Room Tip: Complain the manager is very understanding and speaks good English

We had a week here, there were a couple of slight problems with the room, like the telly packing up. But in fairness, the staff were very helpful and replaced it straight away. Basic, no frills style accomadation but it was exactly what we paid for. We were self catering so we can't comment on the food, we didnt go in the bar as it didnt seem very appealing to us. Housekeeping were good. All we expected from the place was cheap, comfortable acommodation and that is exactly what we got.

Just returned from an amazing week in fuerteventura at Broncemar beach (29th june-6th july). We arrived at the hotel at around 7pm after landing at the airport at about 6.30pm to be told that the hotel was fully booked but they would upgrade us to superiort for free!! No complaints there! The superior room was lovely, aircon in the bedroom and a flatscreen tv with free viewing and the bathroom was 5*! However we were self catering and did feel that we lacked facilities to cook i.e no oven just 2 hob rings and a microwave kettle and toaster.. so we ate out every night. One word of advice if you are looking on here before booking is dont pay for transfers, the hotel is literally 10 minutes from the airport so take a taxi (14 euros from airport to hotel and 10 euros from hotel to airport on the way back) all in all a saving compared to the 48 quid we were quoted for thomas cook transfers!
The hotel is close to the airport and is on a flight path leading into the airport so you will experience planes flying over at various times throughout the day, they do fly VERY low so are very loud but you do get used to it after a while (sounds awful but its true!)
We stayed self catering so we didn't get to experience the hotel food but having seen the food available for lunch (chips, burgers, kebabs, hot dogs, bread rolls) its the usual variety you get at a hotel and there was one bar in the hotel which had quite a long queue at times but did go down quickly.
The pool area got busy very quickly and the usual towel over bed trick was seen at 8am in the morning... but most people didnt get to their beds until late afternoon so my advice is to remove the towel and put yours there which is what we did a few times, there were very few parasols so grab what you can! This is a 3* resort so dont expect miracles! We paid £236 each for self catering for a week which I thought was enough for the hotel.. the resort (around a 3 min walk from hotel) was big with various bars and the usual tourist shops. Would definately recommend the old sports tavern for a week drinks with dj diva on friday and saturday nights.. you'll have a ball!! Also serve meals at 2 for 12 euros.. BARGAIN!! Would also recommend the goose and ferkin Pieros bar (entertainment til 3am) and the irish bar just up from there! Drinks arent cheap but the entertainment in the resort is worthwhile! One word of advice is to AVOID the aberdeen steak house like the plague.. ordered a strawberry cheesecake and was given a blackcurrant sponge cake.. send that back and was given a manky banana in a banana split and a frozen apple pie also Avoid gambrinus (next to old sports tavern) you do get 15% off for being a resident at the broncemar beach but the food is chewy and portions are ridiculous (one meal could serve 3!!) Beach is around 10 min walk from hotel and costs around 9 euros for 2 beds and a parasol.
All in all i would recommend this hotel but go self catering as food seemed poor and entertainment not much better. We went as a last minute deal and sunbathed all day and went out in the evenings for a meal and entertainment.
Another tip.. check out is by 11am so if your flight isnt until 10pm like ours.. ask for a free courtesy room so you can shower and freshen up before flight home!
