“Christmas at San Jorge”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2007

We also spent Xmas at this hotel and found the experience thoroughly enjoyable, not as bad as the previous review.
We were all inclusive and thought the Antigua suites where we stayed were lovely as were the sisier hotel which we were also able to use.
I found the food to be very good, there was a avriety of choice and not greasy and fried as previously stated.

The waiters were brilliant, they tried their best at the Christmas Gala meal, and I thought that it was very well presented.

The hotel was very clean as were the apartments, the maids were brilliant and the swimming pools were excellent, we had arond four hours of blistering sunshine every day and came home with a glowing tan, feeling relaxed and refreshed.

The service in the bars was poor, but after complaining to reception, more staff were put on to help. However I do have one complaint, I don't recommend the English bar to anybody when Pascual is serving, he is very rude and arrogant, and has one pace only, that of a snail, this is the only thing that let the hotel down.

The children enjoyed the entertainment, though I must say it wasn't very good or lasted very long and there certainly was a language barrier with the Elba Action Animacion team, but the kids enjoyed it.

  • Liked — the cleanliness
  • Disliked — the noise of the maids trolleys
  • Tips/Secrets — Don't use the English Bar when Pascual is serving

I travelled alone to this hotel, for a week in Nov/Dec needing a quite place to relax, get some rays by a pool and generally rest.
The rooms are wonderful having a huge lounge/ dining/kitchenette area and a bedroom with twin beds with loads of wardrobe space (Make sure you ask for a sea view. I didn’t and wish I had). The reception staff were courteous and the Manager always said hello to everyone.
I stayed on a half board basis. The staff in the restaurant was always happy to help and there was a great selection of both hot a cold food to eat. The buffet breakfast was varied having everything from a continental breakfast, fruit; to a full English fry up if you wanted.
The hotel's location is on a rocky sea front at the end of Caleta. There is a flat paved walkway which enables you to either walk away from Caleta on the rocky front which I did each morning (breezy 30 minute walk) or towards Caleta. It takes about 15 mins to walk to the beach in the town.
Caleta itself has an array of restaurants and bars to suit all tastes
Personally I do want to go back even if it is only to sit on the front of the hotel looking out to sea it would be worth it. I think it would be good for a person with a walking disability who maybe can't always get easy access to these places.
Next time I would certainly consider ringing the hotel direct and booking then sorting a flight out as the hotel is about 15 mins away from the airport a quick taxi ride there. Hope you too have a great stay in this hotel. Holidays I think are what you make them.

ive just got back from this hotel a day ago having stayed there over christmas.
the hotel was very clean, and had a good first impression. the rooms are massive and its a real big hotel. but the food there and the staff let this hotel down hugely.
we were originaly half board but upgraded to all inclusive while we were there. what a mistake.
the food was awful. it was chips, chips, chips and more chips. yes we like them but not every single day! everything was fried and greasy as heck and just not pleasent. for our christmas dinner all we had was turkey and mix veg (peas, carrots, green beans). no sprouts no potatoes (only in the form of chips) no gray, no stuffing no nothing. my mum was so furious she just had a salad. how terible is that? a salad for your christmas dinner.
and the service wasnt very good either.
you could be waiting for ever at the bar to be served and wen they did serve you they were moody, arrogant and just not nice. i think there was just one woman who was cheery and that would talk to you but the rest of them had attitude problems and they need to be taught how to be bar people. you would stand there waiting to be served and they would completly ignore you.
the entertainment was also rubbish. i dot know whether it was just because it was in the winter season and that in the summer they employ english reps but these reps we had were not very good at their job. they couldnt dance or sing and they were all spanish and so there was a lanuage barrier which i know cant be helped.
i wouldnt recommend this hotel for someone who likes to keep within the complex and likes an all inclusive holiday because the food and service was awful. but for someone who goes self catering and would venture outside of the hotel for food and entertainment i'd say it was ok. the hotel is clean, and the rooms are very nice and the bars and resturants are not far away.
personally i wont be going back though.

We booked this on the internet as a last minute self catering sunshine break for one week, 25th Nov to 2nd Dec,
When we got out of the airport there was a long queue at the taxi rank but it moved quite quickly once the queue jumping Germans were all pointed to the correct end to stand at , taxi from the airport was only 10 euros to the hotel door, Hotel was clean and the staff friendly and it had everything we needed in the room, It was a large room with large balcony, rooms cleaned most days towels and sheets changed regularly , and a fantastic shower with loads of hot water, the resort was very quiet at this time of year, the weather was exceptionally hot and sunny between 26 and 37 degrees and a nice breeze most of the time, cooler in the evenings,
If you like to go sea fishing then i recommend you take your equipment as you can walk out from the Hotel and on to the rocks within two minutes and be fishing, If you dont have any bait and equipment it can be bought in town at a shop called Gone Fishing , really nice English guy that runs it, he can also organise a deep sea fishing trip for you, I went and it was a good day out, although it cost me a few bob that day as my wife went to the Thallaso Spa for the day , which she said was wonderful,
The beach and harbour are only a 5 minute walk from the hotel.
We ate out for all our meals and never once used the kitchen in the apartment.
Places to recommend for food were the Spanish Tapas place at the top end of town next to the bakers shop, we went every morning for breakfast and it was in the Daily Telegraphs recommended eating places, full of locals, and they know where to go to eat , you will need to speak a little Spanish to order but some of the menus were in English, the Blues Bar in town was also very good for snacks and drinks and they had some very nice house red and white wines also good music, and a very nice couple that run it , another nice place to eat was the restaurant underneath Tony Romas next to the old green and white beer truck , they had excellent steaks and its not expensive, but not to be recommended was the restaurant upstairs at the old lighthouse as we thought it was below standard , the seafood was bland and tasteless, and the service poor and overpriced,
In fact overall it was an ideal sunny quiet break for one week at that time of year , not too many kids just a good mixture of all age groups, watch out for two female Timeshare sellers between Mexican corner and the Commercial centre, the catch phrase they use is (Its only a survey love ) they probably have no proper Spanish work permits,
i dont think it would be the same in the height of summer , but as a quiet winter sunshine break it was a fantastic location ,

  • Liked — Clean and functional
  • Disliked — could be noisy early morning (builders across the street)
