“Great Hotel, Great Service - Great Holiday”
Reviewed March 2, 2011

We stayed at the Hotel during the Feb half term holiday, booking through First Choice. We have a 5 year old and a 15 year old daughter. The location is nice only a very short 10 minute transfer from the airport. Caleta de Fuste is small but plenty of bars / restaurants although we had no need to use them.

Like many have said on arrival (apparently especially on Wednesday) when we arrived at 1:00pm there is a big queue for booking in. I have to say the hotel put on as many staff as could fit behind the desk and my experience was that they were all friendly and helpful. Of course the main issue is that they can't clean the rooms fast enough from the morning checkouts to put everybody straight into their room on arrival. This leads to much angst, they staff can't give a room that's not clean and shouting at them I guess wont get it any sooner. My recommendation if you want a stress free start to your holiday is accept that would may have to wait a couple of hours to get your room. They give you a voucher for a complimentary Bucks Fizz or Orange Juice so enjoy this leave your bags and go and sit in the sun or do a little exploring. When you first arrive you fill in your arrivals form, one for each member of your group, you hand these in (we were given these on the coach by First Choice). You complete them and hand them in so you queue to do that then your wait begins. If you want to sit by the pool during your wait pack yourself a little pool bag with the essentials, cossy, cream and towels. You can get towels from reception by paying a €10 deposit (you get this back when you return the towel) however you have no chance of getting this on arrival so bring a couple with you. Another tip is if you are all inclusive you get given a wrist band, when you do go back to get your room make sure you have all your group there as they put the wrist bands on, if they are not there you will need to queue again.

We had booked 2 rooms and I emailed the hotel before I arrived to confirm that they were adjoining, they replied confirming they were before I departed. On arrival the rooms were in fact in different blocks! Without issue we were "upgraded" to a single family suite with 2 rooms one containing a bed settee. We were also upgraded from Half Board to Fully inclusive without any issue or indeed asking.

The rooms and the hotel were very clean, teams of cleaners, painters and gardeners were at work everywhere. There are a few signs of wear and tear but nothing that would put me off.

The food is buffet style but the choice while we were there was huge, very good quality and plenty of it. We had plenty of "English" choices especially for the kids but they loved all the fresh salad and fruit. The dessert choice was great with chocolate fountain day on Tuesdays and Fridays.

There are shows every night in the large auditorium seating about 800. It was very good quality, very well done and therefore very popular...apart from the Lion King night though we had no problems getting a seat.

The hotel was busy, plenty of kids about so if you want it a bit quieter don;t go round the kids holidays, we met a chap who comes for a month each year and outside these times he reports virtually kid free.

The biggest gripe which is well documented is the pools are cold...they do attempt to "acclimatize" one...some warm water was been pumped in but it is just too cold for the kids to stay in and enjoy for any period of time. Luckily we had read this before we went so we took a couple of rash vests and the wetsuit for the little one. If you are going early season and you or your kids want to swim I would take something to keep you warm!
People do bag the loungers even though the hotel says not to. again even with lots of people there we had no problems getting a bed at anytime of day.

Wireless internet can be purchased although it seems only to cover some rooms. A couple of PC's were available in reception area for those who need to keep in touch or access the Internet. We couldn't get Vodafone mobile reception, although Orange was fine.

Overall though we had one of our best family holidays, enjoying very nice weather, great food, friendly staff, the Spa, tennis and mini golf. We are booking now for next year...some great deals direct with the hotel :)

On arrival with husband and graddaughter, we were told no room was available for the first night, we would have to be put up in a suite and get our booked room the following day. We refused and suudenly a room was available although there was only a double bed, no bed for our 8years old granddaughter. Back to reception with cases and granddaughter in toe, now tired and hot, we were promised a bed would be put in room before bedtime. We were not ther only people with this problem, strange it has never happened to us before in years of packagre holidays. Back to room, eagerly unpacked our swimwear and made for the supposedly heated outdoor pool. My granddaughter loves the water and was only able to play in the pool for a short time each day. She has returned to the UK with an ear infection. I like a swim but never got to swim all week, which was very disappointing. This was half term week but I don't think the staff were prepared for the rush of people at all mealtimes. There were queues for drinks, toast, juices and we finally gave up queuing for these. Lunchtimes were worse, you couldn't get a table, and if you did, you had to wait until the table was set to eat. Evening wasn't so bad because we dined early. Having said all that, the food very excellent, good choices, the entertainment was great and both kids clubs were well organised. The area was very nice and clean and down at the harbour there were fish to feed and sealions to see. Also jetskis and pedaloes were available. The weather was a bit cold in the shade but the afternoons were very hot in the sun.

I stayed at the Barcelo Fue in February 2011, my first visit to Fueteventura and my first All Inclusive experience.
Location is fab : close to the airport (but only minimal aircraft noise), right on the beach and close to the resort shops, bars and restaurants.
Rooms : Had a seaview room in Block 3 which had a lovely view over the marina, saw the sun rise in the morning and sun shone on the balcony most of the day. The room was a good size and adequately clean (not prestine). As the room didn't overlook the pool area it was wonderfully quiet.
Food : A good selection of food in the restaurant but it could get a bit repetitive if staying at the hotel for more than 1 week. At busy times you needed to queue to get into the buffet style restaurant and it sometimes took ages to catch the eye of a waiter to take a drinks order (on a couple of occassions we had virtually finished our meal before we got a drink). The had a chocolate fountain on a couple of night but felt a bit wary of this as could see kids sticking their fingers into the chocolate.
Bar : Good selection of drinks on All Inclusive. Service could have been quicker but staff polite. Unfortunately some irresponsible parents (British I'm embarassed to say) let their kids use the bar area as a playgound (running around, screaming, etc...) which resulted in us leaving the bar on a couple of nights. Good quality of evening entertainment that started around 9.45pm.
Overall : Great hotel, great location.... I guess the hotel can't be blamed for badly behaved children.

This is a very large, modern hotel but due to its size it is impersonal and I think probably under-staffed. We found the bar and restaurant staff in particular were reasonably efficient but not friendly at all, though it was more likely due to the fact that they seemed to be run off their feet! The positives are that the hotel is in a perfect location - right on the beach and very central to the small resort of Caleta. We had a standard room with a seaview and it was excellent - very spacious, very clean and very quiet. The animation team work very hard to entertain you - ok, yes they mime to the shows but they are enthusiastic and overall I think they do a very good job. The pool area is again very spacious, more than enough sunbeds to go round and is kept very clean and tidy. The negatives for us were the indifferent staff (in general - not all of them!) and the food at dinner. Breakfast was very good but the evening meal was pretty average and served in a busy, impersonal dining area. We are not fussy eaters but apart from the freshly cooked fish most of the other stuff was unappealing and fairly bland - and didn't vary much from night to night. Bar prices were quite expensive and again service was slow and unfriendly.
We got a last minute deal just for one week and so overall I wouldn't complain about the value-for-money we got at this hotel but I would have been disappointed had I paid full price. In general I would say if you can get a good deal for HB or AI then it is worth staying here on that basis, otherwise I think B&B is a better bet.

If ure looking for pure rest and relaxation, this is the place...lovely spacious, clean rooms, beautiful grounds and the mini-golf course on site is a nice touch.
Only small criticisms are that even the heated pool was pretty cold this time of year and in terms of food- plenty of variety if u can eat everything but not for veggie or halal diets. Also, a little annoying that there was no kettle in the room, and the hotel charged 2 euros a day to let us rent one!
Overall, definitely a lovely, comfortable hotel, and a very convenient 5 minute walk to the local supermarket.
Wouldn't really advise young single people or young couples without kids to come here as not the most romantic setting....but perfect for a quick getaway (esp from the UK) and really good for families with small children.

Got back from our holiday yesterday and really enjoyed it...The kids also loved it...Cant fault the hotel really, The food was fantastic plenty of different varieties.....The pool was very cold but that didnt stop my 7 year old son and partner going init also you could get a sun bed without putting a towel on as there was plenty...The entertainment was really good at night times they made a really good effort....The location was fantastic as it was close to the beech and harbor.....Id recommend the oasis park was brilliant for kids and adults but i must say its a very long day...The only thing i can moan about is that when we checked in we had to wait over an hour for our room because it was been cleaned and was very busy other than that we enjoyed our weeks stay and would defo go there again !!

Just back from a lovely holiday at the Barcelo with my husband and 6 year old daughter. I had done my fair share of reading reviews etc. before deciding on where to book, and the recommendations from other Trip Advisor users, as well as other sites, swung my decision, after weighing up what the good points and bad points were of the hotels we were looking at and what was going to be important to us on this holiday. (We had a villa holiday for two weeks last October, and although stayed in the most fantastic villa ever, it did rain every single day for two weeks, hence we wanted another week away asap to try and get some sun (check out www,villaoctavius.com - spectacular!)

Anyway, back to the Barcelo. We travelled from Edinburgh with Ryanair - and although these flights are credited with leaving/arriving on time, you are made to feel like second class citizens and most of the staff are dreadful! They may arrive on time, but the planes are so far away from the Terminal building we though we had landed at Glasgow the amount of time the journey took us on the airport bus!) They also lie to you by keeping two rows of seats free at the front of the plane because of 'ballast' - I mean, come on, are we expected to believe that (it's probably just for their own bags and a place to sit whilst not attending to passengers!) You can't recline your seat, food and drink are a fortune as well as being inedible, plus there is no seat pocket on the seat in front to put anything in either - I could go on - but anyway, back to the hotel!

We booked a private taxi transfer through Sky Blue for 22 Euros which was fantastic - we had a private mini-bus each way! We arrived at around 7pm at the hotel and hence were the only customers at Reception - I had read a lot of reviews about the rooms not being ready etc. - obviously we arrived much later than normal, so we were fine. We had a lovely room (paid extrra for a Sea View) on the second floor of block 2 - lovely view. The room was more than adequate for the three of us, we had a massive 7ft bed - which actually is one of the comfiest I have ever slept in, and our daughter was on a sofa bed which was perfectly adequate. The bathroom was also lovely, with more than enough space for all your bits and bobs, and even a vanity mirror. The bath, shower and toilet were accessed through another door off of the vanity space. There was also no shortage of hot water, our daughter had a bath every day and we had showers.

If anyone gets room 2223 - then there are two pigeons arrive at approx 6pm on the balcony looking for food!

Plenty space in the wardrobe - however there are only three drawers and two very small bedside drawers - but that's the only downside.

Wi-fi - we had paid 25 Euros for unlimited wi-fi and found the signal in our room was non existant! However, we aren't ones to let that spoil an otherwise perfect room, and just made do with the laptop on occassion in the Reception or the Blackberry (I still had to bits of work unfortuantely!) Anyway there is an internet space with computers for about 5/6 Euros an hour in the Lobby area.

We found the sunbeds to be plentiful, the 'help yourself' drinks station at the bar during the day ideal, the staff friendly, the food excellent and the location perfect.

There are occassional planes that fly overhead, but to us it was quite interesting to see and not something I thought people would actually complain about - unless they lived on a flight path at home and wanted to get away from that sort of thing.

There is the age old problem of people reserving sunbeds, but hey, if you can't beat them, join them, I have yet to stay in a hotel, anywhere in the world, that actually police's this.

We found the buffet food to be plentiful, hot and very varied. For our six year old there is plenty of resh pasta, pizza, chips, salad and chicken nuggets, there are also a huge selection of puddings, ice creams and the chocolate fountain and baked alaska also went down a treat! I am quite a foodie, and although not a fan of buffets, we found if we took our time over our meal, talking time to have a starter, with time in between before our main and pud, we enjoyed the meal like we were being served in a restraunt. There was always fresh fish and meats being cooked in front of you, with also a 'speciality' meat/fish of the night at the end of that section - and I would personally recommend 'Perch' which was delicious, and also the 'Turkey' which I had with mash, potato croquets, sprouts and gravy - lovely!

The waiters work non-stop and, yes you need to get their attention, however, we used to order two waters and a bottle of wine when we arrived at the buffet which was sufficient to last for the duration of our meal (just ordered a second bottle a couple of nights.....!) Oh - and they have a lovely stilton cheese - yum!

Now on to the kids club - we haven't put our daughter into these in the past, however, from day one she absalutely loved it - the girls are fab and work hard to not only entertain the kids, but to make every child feel special. The club is open from 10.30 to 1pm - which to be honest is really just after breakfast up until lunchtime, and then again from 3pm until 5pm, they also have a mini-disco from 8.30 until 9pm (more on that later!) Each day there are different activities, from kite building (then flying) to 'Olympics' in the beach, sand castle building competitions, Mini Golf (which she won - and got a certificate!) Pirate Days and even a trip to the marina to feed the fish. She loved every minute of it and what a relief to see her enjoying herself, being entertained, stimulated and basically having a ball. She was also lucky enough to be chosen to appear in one of the shows 'The Lion King' which was a great experience for her (which she got yet another certificate for!)

The mini-disco fro 8.30 - 9pm each night was a great success (however, I'm not sure if I would think the same way if we were holidaying here as a couple!) The mini-club staff dress up as clowns and do dances like the hokey kokey, the music man etc. and the kids have the time of their lives. One night they even had a parrot show which was great (photo attached!)

The entertainment in the evening is excellent, OK it's not the West End, but for a holiday hotel it's much better than you would expect. All the team work hard and seem to enjoy what they do.

Check out was 12 noon and although we did ask for a late-check out (24 Euros) the hotel was full so unfortunately they couldn't accommodate us. However, there is a luggage room, you get to keep on your all-inclusive band, so you can still have lunch and drinks, and when you want to you get towels from Reception and you can shower and change in the gym, which was ideal for us as we didn't have to leave until 5pm.

All in all, for what we paid, we didn't expect it to be this good, we are definately going to book again for either July or October - this time for 2 weeks!
