“Average hotel but good for the price we paid!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 18, 2013

We didn't pay a lot for our stay at this hotel and for that I think we got good value for money, food was ok but everyone bar 1 of our party of 7 were ill during our stay, breakfast was best but we had to eat out twice just to get away from the greasy smell emitting from the dining hall but all in all pretty much what you expect from all inclusive. Evening entertainment was mediocre, kids disco was the same every single night but kids like that, so was fun to watch the little ones enjoying themselves. Could do with a bit more choice from the snack bars as they only serve chips, burgers or hotdog sausages, my son is only 14 months and it would have been able to choose some fruit for him rather than subject him to chips (which I wouldn't do). Agree with some of the other reviews pool areas are a little on the shoddy side but i wouldn't say they were dirty or unsafe just not that pleasing to look at.
All in all good for the money and some of the other rooms look much nicer that the ones we had but all clean and staff were friendly and helpful.

Seeing some of the reviews on here made me a bit iffy about going to this resort but when i landed and got there it. Was. Amazing would definitely visit again there was a wide variety of food from all countries and cultures and all the staff were friendly and as we were a large group they catered for us well. There were many pools but only one was fresh water the others were salt water and it was right by the beach and not far from the town would definitely visit again :-)

As a staunch supporter of The Barcelo Castillo Beach Resort, who has spent many excellent holidays here,I must say this was the 1st time I found something very annoying. We stayed on the 3000 block poolside.Every morning around 10am a large speaker was wheeled out and we were then subjected to SEVEN hours a day of very loud music. Techno,Drum & Base,Rap,and various other genres, all with a pulsating beat.It was very intrusive, and by the end of the day I was ending up with a headache.
Reading a book was almost impossible. We wouldn't dream of inflicting our choice of music on others,so Barcelo please have a little consideration.I will be returning as I love the place but I sincerely hope you have sorted it out by then.

We stayed for a week at the end of October and our 'luxurious' Ryanair flight was on time again which meant we got to the hotel (by taxi) about midday thinking our room wouldn't be ready. We had E mailed the hotel to ask for an upgrade to a beach front refurbished room and they had replied saying it will be sorted on arrival. However the VERY pleasant receptionist said they were full so we were given a room on the 3000 block and was ready.
The room is basic and not 4 star standard and had twin beds not a double .The cleaning of the rooms during our stay was minimal with the patio area and front entrance never cleared of leaves .
We were all inclusive and the buffet area was very busy (half term week). The meals were fairly good ,though could have been a bit hotter and would have struggled for 2 weeks ! We tried to eat outside at breakfast but there were so many flies that we gave up
The bar and entertainment area needs sorting ...we didn't use it as its too cramped and small .not comfortable and no separate area for just having a drink away from the entertainment (the bit we did see was pretty basic) and ended up having to pay extra by either going into town or using the pizza bar on the front where you get a 30% discount for all inclusive
The all inclusive package in Europe could learn a lot from packages in the Caribbean as it doesn't compare even down to basics like having bottles of water in your room and not having to pay for them and having to pay for the use of a safe.
The hotel is in a wonderful position with lovely grounds and good staff but just needs a bit of work on the rooms and bars to be called a 4 star

Spend a week here in late October with wife and two kids. They do many things well here but they need to make some significant improvements if they want to justify their 4 star rating.

pros - sea view bungalow was lovely but if you get one on ground floor your terrace is not as good or as private. Ask to be moved upstairs (thankyou Mara for going to the trouble). Lovely sea views and a good beech by canary standards ie sandy. Take gel shoes if you have them as it is very rocky in the sea.Food was good but very disorganised with people regularly colliding with one another in the food hall. Nice variety though.Nobody bothers with the long trousers rule at night gents so leave then at home. Local area is ok with typical 'english pubs' and 'Irish Oak's' etc nearby if you like that kind of thing.

cons - Grumpy staff at pool bar in the day. Biggest criticism is that there is nowhere to sit at night to make the most of the fabulous sea views and sun sets. Everyone is forced to sit around the grotty entertainment area and drink out of plastic glasses and sometimes paper cups.No escape on site from the largely mediocre entertainment and nightly mini disco. Most people must head into the bars in town but if you have paid for all inc you should not feel forced to do this. Main pool in shocking state of repair. very little shade to be found anywhere. No ashtrays so people were pouring drinks to stub cigarettes in. I could go on ...

In summary if you've experienced other all inc holidays where you've come away feeling a little spoiled you will probably be a bit disappointed by this place but with a few changes they could achieve that luxury feel that you expect in a 4 star resort. If you get a good deal and you can live with the gripes stated above you can have a nice family holiday here but we won't be returning in a hurry.

Enjoy! (possibly)

All inclusive was great, 10 of us in total, lovely food but manic to get to it! The usual rude queue jumpers and food hoarders hah.
Bungalows were lovely, pools were all nice but bit chilly this time of year and salt water but clean and we'll kept, I would definatley go back, not much lively night life but ok for family's, being a bit of an old raver with a disco family we like a good variety of bars, would have been bored for longer than a week but as I said its great for family's with kids.
You can also help yourself to all alcoholic drinks if all inclusive which was lovely as hate waiting at bar!
My sis an mum had problem at their bungalow and we're upgraded! Those rooms were lovely too and overlooked the little marina, local market which was a bit blah, catamaran trip was great, all in all well worth the trip!

The Barceló Castillo Beach Resort is exactly what is says on the tin. The whole beach area belongs to the Barceló company. Staff at reception were excellent.Friendly and very helpful. It was quite a long walk from reception to our bungalow but a porter took us there and after a couple of days we became orientated and knew the short cuts. Bungalow was ideal for us, we were half board but there was a kitchen area and we could of catered for ourselves. The food wasn't too bad and when you think they have to cater for quite a few nationalities they do a brilliant job. The resort is next to the harbour and there is a particularly bracing walk along a promenade where you can feed the local chipmunks. All in all my husband and I really enjoyed our stay and would stay at a Barceló resort again. We have stayed with them a couple of times and have always found their hotels very good value.

Room Tip: We stayed in 3094 situated just behind one of the swimming pools. Glad we were there as the pool cou...
