Just got back from Castillo Beach Park and I have to say despite reading plenty of bad reviews I feel that there really is no problem with the place.
The apartments are basic and dated but are cleaned regularly as is the pool and pool area. We did have ants in the apartment but they only appeared when food was dropped or left out but no real problem there. Unfortunately we did find two cockroaches in the apartments and had to relocate them but the next day a member of staff came and sprayed the apartment and we then saw no more of them.
The maid was fantastic, very friendly and very thorough as was all the staff, as per previous holidays we find that staff abroad are far more helpful if you try to communicate with them in their language, it is their country after all!!!
One blot on the landscape was that on the complex the restaurant (Mirador) was not open ( although staff were working feverishly to get it cleaned and painted and stocked to get it open) nor was the mini market but there is a Netto at the Montecastillo centre about 5 minutes walk away.
We ate every night at the Montecastillo centre and would highly recommend Argentinos and Chaplins there.
Argentinos is very friendly and the food is excellent combining typical English food with more mediterranean fare and the prices are very reasonable.
Chaplins is very much English but again extremely friendly and welcoming, the staff there are all english and the food is superb. It is very clean and ideal for families and couples, the owner even does quiz nights and free bingo.
Caletta is very nice with a lovely sheltered beach and a small harbour with watersports and excursions to see whales and dolphins.
The apartments are about a 20 minute walk up a hill from the beach but there is a "wally" train that can transport you for a euro each.
Overall a lovely holiday in accomodation that is ideal for a tight budget.

We stayed for a week in February 2008. We are four adults and so we booked two one bedroomed apartments. We stayed in the LAKE complex, which is the Timeshare part, as we are members of a holiday club.
Absolutely nothing wrong with the apartments. Very well equipped and clean. Reception staff were very friendly.Pool and garden areas were very well maintained. Apartments cleaned every day except Sunday.

Caleta de Fuste is a nice town, with good shopping, nice restaurants, a lovely beach and two good golf courses nearby.

A little train goes up and down from the town to the apartments regularly, all day long if you have no transport, or don't feel like walking. We actually found it was a nice walk.

We had a car for the week, and spent a day in the south in Jandia (beautiful beaches); a day in the centre of the island at Betancuria - (a very picturesque little town) and a day in the north at Corralejo - with great views over to Lanzarote. The road system on this island is better than we have experienced anywhere.

(There were a few stray cats around, but they were not a problem - quite well behaved in fact. And some very tiny ants - but so long as we didn't leave any bits of food on the floor - again, no problem.)

We were a bit worried after reading some of the reviews here before we went, but i must say some of you people must be very hard to please.

We found Castillo beach a great base for our holiday. Its really not that bad and lets face it they woulnt keep sending people there if it was as bad as all that!!!!

We arrived at reception and were quickly and efficiently checked in. The receptionist explained via a map where our bungalow was which made it seem like it was miles away - it wasnt far at all.

First impressions were that it was clean and tidy and the beds were among the most comfortable of all the many places i have stayed.

Didnt see any cockroaches at all, and during our whole seven days didnt see more than five ants in total. I guess if you are careful and dont drop loads of food you wont either.

We always had plenty of clean, clear hot water day and night. And never heard another guest complain at all about anything.

The pool was freezing cold, polar bears could live in it!!! Plenty of sunbeds and never any rush to get one.

Food at the Mirador was fine but with so many great places to eat in the town only used it once for breakfast (ps avoid the sausages).

It was a gentle stroll down to the town centre and the walk back again fine too, we were told where to get a taxi back up, but never did, there really wasnt the need to.

Can definately recommend O,fados, mexican corner, the great wall of china and the steak house as fantastic places to eat. Chinese was very reasonably priced.

Sportsmans bar was good in the evenings for watching the football and the service was great! Can also recommend the food here to but served only during the day.

Caleta was a great town and the saturday market was a great place for little gifts.

Would be more than happy to travel there again and stay in the same accomodation dont let the other reviews put you off.

Arrived at the Castillo beach park on 26th /12th /2007 with my partner and our 2 boys who are 4 and 6
Reception staff were pleasant spoke English ok and check in was quick, we were given a map to find our apartment (number 42).On first sight our apartment looked basic but clean and big enough for a family of 4

27th/12th /2007 6.10pm reported to reception we had no hot water, the lady said the maintenance man would come to apartment within an hour so we waited but when it got to 7pm he still hadn’t been so we had to boil pans and kettle of water so we could get a wash, we went back to the reception at 8.15pm as we were on our way out for the night, the girl on reception said the maintenance man had reported that he had been and fixed the problem but he hadn’t so she rang him and he said he’d fix it.

28th /12th/2007 4.15pm arrived back at the apartment after a day at the beach to find there were ants all over, in the living area, the kitchen area, the bedroom and even up the back of the toilet, we reported this to the reception and our rep as she was there at the time, receptionist said maintenance man would come to apartment when he comes in and he’d spray to kill them.
5.25pm went to get shower and again no hot water so went back to reception to report it, there was a man on the reception he spoke good English and assured me the maintenance man was due at the park at 6 pm he would come straight to our apartment he said in 1 hour you will have no more problems
6.10pm seen the maintenance man on roof of next doors apartment so I went out to ask him if he was coming to fix the water heater and get rid of the ants he didn’t speak any English so I took him and showed him the ants he said “ok ok “ and went away he came back with a tin of ant killer and showed us a rusty old heating element he said water will get hot and left us to kill the ants, surprisingly we had to boil pans and kettles of water again so we could have a wash as water did not heat up and we had arranged to go out at 7.30pm when we arrived back at 11pm water was hot
The hot water was a dirty colour not nice at all

31st /12th /2007 reported to reception that the toilet was not flushing again they said maintenance man would come at 6pm, I also wanted to speak to our rep sam but she was not there

1st /01st /2008 toilet still not fixed so reported it again and receptionist said maintanence would come at 6pm which he did and he fixed it
Because of the ants and cockroaches our kids were forced to sleep in same room as myself and my partner which meant none of us had much sleep but this night 4am I awoke to see 2 cockroaches on the wall one of them was inches away from my sons face it was massive we could not stay there any longer

We went to see our rep sam and told her we needed to move out of Castillo beach and we had looked on internet for somewhere else to stay so she took are number and said she would see what she could do.
We moved on the 3rd it was a terrible time at Castillo it really did spoil are holiday

Out of 8 days our bed linen was changed once the apartment was cleaned once but towels were changed 3 times

The playground as shown on the map which they give you is no longer there and the playground across from the reception is only for time share customers so its locked at all times

There is nothing for kids to do and the entertainment advertised isn’t the ones which you see out of the 8 days I never seen a kids disco
very badly lit at night cats all over, left door open once and a cat came running in and lay under the chair, cat dirt all over
castillo really is as bad as review say and it is not 2 star its disgusting
Food at the mirador is not very good but the staff are freindly and the coffee is nice

Enjoyed the holiday, weather was great and the kids had a great time everything was good with the exception of problems with security. Both of the neighbouring apartments to us were broken into, one when the family were asleep. Do not leave your key in the door. Beware!
The apartments are basic but functional, the pool and the bar and facilities are good and the local area/weather is great.
