Nice swimming pool with a , great location in the town centre close both to sea path and beach . a few years a go the complex was a mess (2 stars from me) so it is good to see such a dramatic change - well done Phil and the management team !

Myself and family spent 2 weeks at 93 + 94 castillo mar in sept the apartments were lovely well equipped and spotless, The complex is really well looked after and the staff very friendly, The pools were great for the grandkids we could only get them out when they got hungry, The location is ideal very close to restaraunts, shops and bars all within walking distance and so is the superb beach a golden horse shoe shape with shallow water great for children. Thanks sonia for a lovely holiday looking forward to going back next year. Barry and family.

Room Tip: 93 + 94 are in perfect position close to the pool but still private.

We have just returned from a week's holiday at Castillo Mar. The apartment we stayed in was just by the pool. Perfect location for shops/restaurants/coastal walks/beach. The apartment was very clean and had everything we needed for our stay. There is a lovely porch to the front of the apartment with a table and 4 chairs and a little back yard (where washing machine is kept) which has 2 sun loungers, and a small table with 2 chairs. There are a few stray cats around but i see those as a good thing - if there are cats there then there shouldn't be any mice!! The residents are all very friendly and willing to help you if needed (i.e. recommending restaurants!). It was so easy to book the apartment and we will certainly be returning to Castillo Mar next year.

Room Tip: Our apartment was just by the pool, perfect location :o)

Number 5 Castillo Mar.
Our first impression of number 5 Castillo Mar was very bad; on arrival we were greeted by chairs that were ripped and threadbare before we even got inside, this made us feel ashamed to be staying there. Once inside the whole place had a shoddy feel about it and the windows were dirty and smeared. It was made worse by the fact that the downstairs toilet wasn’t working and when we went to go outside, the backdoor handle dropped onto the floor! We didn’t expect 5 star accommodation but at the very least we expected it to be clean, and it wasn’t. If we had only booked for a week we would not have stayed, but we were a long time stay so had to make the most of it.
The cockroach problem was awful. My husband had a cockroach crawling up his back and also one crawling up his arm. I experienced one dropping off the wall onto the table while I was eating and refused to eat downstairs again for the whole of our stay. We found no cockroaches upstairs. Even after extensive spraying we still had about two or three a night. To try and get rid of them we looked up what to do on the Internet. We read that the first step was to make the place immaculately clean, and as I have already said it wasn’t, and also to fill any holes so that they couldn’t get in. We set about cleaning the place properly – cleaning cupboards and scrubbing the doors, scrubbing the toilet door and frame, which was really dirty. We pulled all the furniture into the middle of the room and scrubbed the floor – again it was very dirty behind and on top of the freezer. As my husband was scrubbing the floor the kick board came away from the kitchen units. Under there can only be described as filthy! We counted 15 cockroaches in various stages from dead, dying or alive, it was horrible! At this point my husband phoned the agent to complain.
We felt the holiday wasn’t organized properly either. We were booked for 2 months and weren’t even given a change of sheets or towels, we had to phone and ask for them. We had to have workmen out twice to mend the upstairs toilet, the cistern was held together with a plastic bottle top! And two days before we were due to return the cooker stopped working. We spent over 50 euros on cleaning materials and cockroach spray, plus clothes to disinfect and plug up the holes.
The place did have some good points, the washing machine, freezer and full oven were all good and no complaints about the upstairs, which had a lovely balcony. It was also in a good position, close to the pool and sun bathing area. But the rest of it was bad and the whole of the downstairs was in need of decorating. The worse parts being the cockroaches, the dirt and the ripped up chairs. This was not as seen, or described on Owner’s Direct.
Don’t let this one holiday letting put you off staying at Castillo Mar, there were some really nice units. I personally was shown around numbers 4,6,7 and 70, which were all really nice. The people were so nice too and very helpful – thanks go to Jimmy for mending the door handle. The pool was nice and never crowded and they have a good selection of books in a library at the side of the reception area. It was quiet and felt secure at night; it was also close to shops and restaurants, but be careful which accommodation you choose.

Reviewed March 16, 2012

Spent two weeks here from 29th February with a friend after booking through Owners Direct. We were particularly attracted to it as we do not share a bedroom and the lounge area in most one bedroom apartments have uncomfortable sofas and I worry about waking them during nocturnal toilet visits. Here the sofas in most apartments become double beds and there is a toilet downstairs as well as the bathroom upstairs by the bedroom.

The positives - our apartment had a partial sea view from the balcony off the bedroom, it was clean, well equipped and the beds were comfortable. There are plenty of sun beds around the pool. The blue ones in the pool area were older but still in good condition and the new yellow ones on the terrace had a whole range of seating options. The complex is within an easy walk to the sea and all the shops and restaurants.

The negatives - the view from the patio was of the external complex wall and there was a phone box on the other side so people spent time stood there. Just a bit disconcerting when you are eating your breakfast, but that is probably a personal thing. We ate when possible on the upstairs balcony for that reason but then you had to tackle the stairs with things in your hands. They are tile stairs with a very tight bend in them, not ideal for anyone with even the slightest mobility issue, if you have big feet, when carrying things or after a drink or two. I found that starting with my right foot on the first stair made it easier but I am sure that there were other ways. There was little progress on the work that has been going on around the pool/bar area so that remains taped off but we did have drilling under the terrace (?pump area) for the last couple of days.

All in all I would recommend this complex and plan to go back as soon as possible.
