“Loved the Mantra Sierra Grand”
Reviewed December 30, 2008

We booked the 2-bedroom apartment at the Mantra Sierra Grand based on the positive reviews here from previous occupants. And I am glad to say it was a fabulous choice.

Our family of 5 have been to the Gold Coast before but have always stayed at Surfers Paradise. We thought we should try Broadbeach this time as Surfers Paradise, in our view, was getting more congested.

We asked for an apartment above the 12th floor with ocean view and got a 20th floor apartment with partial ocean view. We were delighted. The apartment was clean with modern furnishing and a fully-equipped kitchen (2-door refreigerator/ microwave oven/ convection oven/ electric kettle) and laundry room (front loader washer plus dryer). All the electrical appliances look spanking new.

Teabags and coffee sachets were given. Complimentary small bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body lotion as well as shower caps/toilet rolls/tissue boxes were provided for both the bathrooms. For the kitchen and laundry room, two sachets each of dishwashing liquid, dishwasher detergent and washing powder were given the first time round, Additional supplies would need to be purchased for a small fee. Towels and bedlinen were well-laundered and of 5-star grade. You might have guessed that I am the lady of the house and all these details matter to me!

The hubby and the 3 boys were thrilled with the 40" plasma TV and the DVD player. There was broadband internet access from the apartment (a great relief to us) but this need to be purchased from relevant service providers - which is OK - so long as we could have access to the internet when we needed it..

The beds were comfortable with firm mattresses. We had a double bed in one bedroom and twin beds in the second room, which was sufficient for our family. The management had provided a third foldable add-on bed, but we did not utilise it at all. The sofa was OK, though the cushion was not as firm as we would have liked.

It was summer when we were there and our apartment faced north-west. The sun was up before 5 am and it was like what other reviewers have commented - the blinds did not provide adequate black-out. Luckily, I am an early riser by nature and the rest of my family are heavy sleepers. So this was not a major point for us.

The reception staff was courteous and professional. The reception counter opened from 7:30am to 9:30pm. Security aspects were well-taken care of. Lift access to the apartment level and access to the basement carpark were controlled by an electronic tag. Two tags were given to us.

The facilities in the block are like what is stated elsewhere. A point to note is that there is no children's wading pool and so children who are non-swimmers may not be able to make full use of the pools. We spent almost every evening in the indoor heated pool/jacuzzi, which tend to get crowded, as it was peak season when we were there over the Christmas break. There are 3 lifts that service the entire block and in the morning peak hours, one might be prepared to wait a little longer for the lifts.

The location was good. We were not bothered by any traffic noise at all. We could walk to both the beach and Pacific Fair, the shopping center. There was easy access to Surfers Paradise via the Gold Coast Highway and to the Pacific Motorway via Hooker Boulevard (just in from of Pacific Fair) which will lead to most of the theme parks and attractions.

We enjoyed our stay tremendously and had no regrets booking the Mantra Sierra Grand. It was above our expectations and good value for money, iin our opinion. I would like to add a word of thanks to the previous travellers who have bothered to write the reviews and recommended the place!

We have just returned from a 9 night stay at the Sierra Grand. The apartment was modern and well equiped. Great views as we were on the 20th floor. The pools and spas were great. There is an IGA store a few doors down and pizza hut, chinese takeway etc and a cafe in the same complex at Ground level. Handy to Broadbeach shopping and restaurants a short stroll away, 10 mins or so and very handy to Pacific Fair and the Casino across the road. The staff were friendly and helpful.

We have returned from a 8 night stay at Sierra Grand with 2 adults and 2 children. We were on the 12th floor with a great view. The apartment has everything you could possibly need. There are only a couple of downsides, the couches were uncomfortable and the noise is terrible at night and in the morning, the blinds do not block out any sun or light as the rooms were lit up all night. I would stay there again only if I was guaranteed a higher floor. Very close to Pacific Fair Shops and IGA aroound the corner.

Stayed at the Sierra Grand for 7 nights in a 2 bedroom apartment on the 14th Floor. We had excellent views to the city and ocean. Apartment is brand new and had excellent furniture and fittings. Apartments have Pay TV, dushawasher, washing machine and dryers.

Were woken each morning 6.30 - 7am due to the sun factor but as my children wake early this was no issue.

Check in and reception staff were friendly and helpful.

This complex is close to Pacfic Fiar, Casino, Boradbeach restaurants and the beach.

The indoor pool and gym area are excellent and the outdoor pool area is also lovely. They also have a tennis court.

Local supermarket, bottle shop, pizza, chinese and coffee shop 20 metres away out the side of the building

We had a wonderful stay here and would recommend it to everyone.

We took a chance as there had not been many reviews of this hotel (it had only been open for 3 months or so) and our family of two kids and two adults were very pleasantly surprised.
We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment, which was spacious, clean and well appointed with modern brand new appliances and furniture.
The real highlight of this property was the indoor and outdoor pools and spas, and also the sauna and gymnasium.
The location was opposite Pacific Fair Shopping Centre and the Casino, and only two short blocks from the patrolled section of the beach itself.
Staff were friendly and helpful, and I would stay there again, however I would request a higher floor, as there was some street noise audible from the Gold Coast Highway in the evening in our 4th floor apartment. We did have a look from an apartment on the 26th floor and the view of the Pacific Ocean was magnificent.

We have just returned from 7 nights at the Sierra Grand. We were on the 19th Floor on the right hand side of the building as you look out to the ocean. We had a lovely view but may have not been the same from the back of the hotel or on the left hand side. I did request an ocean view on high floor upon booking.

The hotel is situated opposite Pacific Fair Shopping Centre (about a 5 walk across the highway and good 10 minute walk into the heart of Broadbeach. It is around a lot of buildings that are under construction but the noise level from this was not too bad as we were up high enough. We did find convenient the shops located on the highway side of the building under the Bel Air. An IGA, bottle shop, Pizza, Chinese. Only 2 minutes walk from the back entrance.

The apartment was lovely with modern furnishings. It was a good size with room for us the spread out. The kitchen was well equipped for a family stay along with washer and dryer. There were 2 bathrooms with a bath in the one off the master. The blinds were able to block out the early morning sun.

We swam in the indoor pool which was reasonably warm but couldn't stay in too long with the kids. The spa was quite a bit warmer and we hopped in this at the end to warm up. The gym was very well equipped and the outdoor pool was quite warm but didn't go in due to the wind chill factor. There were 2 BBQ's attached which looked good for warmer weather.

The beach was about 200m away along with a great park for the kids to play in and lots of space to run around in.

The staff were friendly but we were only given one key which was difficult when we went our separate ways. They were arranging another key.

I would certainly recommend the hotel to anyone. We really enjoyed it but maybe would have preferred to be a little closer to the action as we did hop in the car to go to dinner as the weather was quite chilly to walk in the cold weather the distance.
