Mantra Sierra Grand
Reviewed October 20, 2013

We stayed here for three nights in September as part of a group for a 30th birthday. We were in a 2 bedroom suite on the 16th floor and I was very impressed. I loved the location, 2 minutes to the beach, 2 minutes to shopping, 2 minutes to nightlife. Perfect! I also loved our very clean, simple and elegant rooms. The service was great as well. The best part was the indoor pool and spa. My child loved this pool and we spent every morning down here as it was too cold most days at the beach.

The only thing that caused an issue was the way the keycards are set up for room entry. Because of security your room card will only take you to your floor level or the lobby and as we travelled as a group with people on multiple floors we needed to get someone to meet us in the lobby in order to let us up to their room because our lift pass could only go to our level, instead of just knocking on their door to be let in.

All in all it was a minor annoyance and understand why it's set up that way. I give this place 5 stars. Loved it!

We stayed here for 8 nights in late October 2013. I booked a 1 bed appt. at around $200 per night, have previously stayed at Peppers and Merriton, once I booked I looked at trip advisor and regretted the booking, however we found the staff friendly, our room overlooked Pacific Fair and road works, which I was initially disappointed in. However we were not disturbed by noise and the sheltered outlook meant we could at least sit on the balcony of an evening, something possible to do if you are facing the ocean. The room was clean and the pool has to be one of the best on the Gold Coast as it gets the sun ALL day.
You do cop the small of the Indian restaurant underneath sometimes.
The worst part was the daggy dark and generally neglected indoor pool and sauna area, needs an upgrade. For the price it is good value, I don't know if we had a refurbished room but certainly did not present as som of the previous reviews. Could be an increased effort to cleaning knows forks and cups, we had to clean them before we used them

Stayed here in May during a famil group and looking at reviews before its rather disappointing so many people didnt have a good experience with this property.
We had a 3 bedroom and it was lovely. Very modern and large, 2 bath rooms obviously with the master bedroom had its ensuit with his and hers basin. the other room had two singles and i had the queen bed. Balcony was decent size. Full kitchen and laundry facilities.

I dont think guest realize that most of the rooms here(mantra properties in general) are individual owned... We went and checked the other girls room which was also a 3 bedroom but they had a different style to what we had.. theirs had a japanese kind of feel with like a glass bathroom door where you could see if someone was sitting on the toilet seat.. its best to maybe request modern room as all these rooms will be similar layout but maybe different interior.

Didnt get a chance to really look at the pool or anything else but basing it on our room and our stay it was a very good place..

Room Tip: request high floors and rooms are individual owned... so best to pop in a request if you prefer mode...

Stayed here over October long weekend in 2013. Booked a 3 bedroom apartment with my parents and our two year old son. Room was quite large, well equipped, nice furniture and the hotel itself is in a good location but that's where the good ends.

Issues:
- Our room was on the 8th floor, the main bedroom with the ensuite which we had was overlooking the Jupiters/Pacific Fair intersection, one of the busiest on the Gold Coast. The sound insulation was almost non-existent - meaning you could hear every car, bus, motorbike and especially the siren that went off at 3:30am
- Similarly, no blockout curtains in any of the rooms, just very thin blinds with two inch gaps between them - meaning again with you got all the lights from Jupiters and pacific fair plus the headlights from the traffic below shining in the window.
- There was NO daily cleaning service. We had to call down to reception and ask for a fresh tea-towel and dishwashing soap (they only gave us one of each)
- When we booked they told us we only had one carpark, however when we booked in they gave us two. However, most of the carparks are pre-reserved for residents (made obvious by giant red dots everywhere), so by giving rooms more than one carpark it can be very difficult to find a carpark underneath.
- The ensuite shower head faces the shower door, but there is a gap between the bottom of the shower door and the floor, so the bath mat actually ends up drenched because of all the water that escapes

And then there was the cot saga:
- Made it clear on the booking - and confirmed with the hotel in the days before - that we get a cot. The hotel confirmed it and said that it would be there and would include linen.
- For whatever reason we didn't get to the hotel until about 9:30pm - my parents had already checked in, but there was no cot.
- Called down to reception - 'yes we'll send one up'
- After half an hour, still no cot, called down to reception again - 'sorry we only have one person for the whole hotel we are doing the best we can'
- A few minutes later one of the staff comes to the door with no cot, asking us if we asked for a towel ?!?
- Me: "No mate, we asked for a cot!" Him: "Did you need anything else?" (as if we didn't actually ask for a cot in the first place or he had the wrong room) Me: "Yes, the blankets and sheets for the cot!"
- He comes back with a portacot (in a bag i.e. not set up), one sheet for a single bed and a towel (!)
- Me: "Where's the linen? Do you not have anything specifically for a cot? Not even a blanket?"
- Him: "I'm sorry sir, all the blankets are no more" (at this point I'm quite upset and just send him away)

We ended up setting the cot up ourselves and using a blanket and sheet from a spare bed in one of the other rooms.

About 10 minutes later reception calls - obviously the person who came to our room had talked to them. They start to say 'we can do this', 'we can do that' (all of which involve using sending up blankets and sheets for normal beds which we already had) but by this time I was just so fed up and said to them look it's 10:30pm my son needs to go to bed good bye (I will admit I was quite gruff with them)

Now because of the above light/sound insulation issues it ends up that my son wakes up every hour the first night, so the second and third nights we actually put had to put him in the hallway as far away from any windows as we could and he ended up sleeping ok, but what a drama!

So in the end despite booking a cot with linen, there was no cot until we asked for it, and no linen at all!

I wouldn't stay here again unless we could get one of the top floors away from the road - but even then it would have to be one heck of a deal.

Room Tip: Get one as high as you can!

This possibly cannot be a 4.5 star. Shower head broken, carpets disgusting, roll away sofa mattress terrible, mouldy dirty room. Maybe Pat Rafter should stay in our room and I wonder if he would put his face to the name Mantra. This is our 2nd Mantra experience and definately the last. I would rate it as a 3.5 star.

We stayed here for 4 nights with our 3 children in a 2 bedroom apartment. For the money we paid the room was very average. It was very dated & needed a good paint (especially to get rid of the pink walls!). It was noisy both internally & externally from traffic noise 6 floors up. Poor fit out of room - not even any bedside lamps for reading in bed. The dining chair was broken & the view was terrible - we looked right out to the shopping centre. Definately wouldn't stay here again.

We have stayed at Sierra Grand a few times and it has always been good, but the last time we thought we'd lash out and stay in a Penthouse. We chose apartment 3001 because it faces both the beach and also takes in the lights of the Gold Coast so you feel like you're in the action. This place was something else! It is a two story Penthouse with an exclusive rooftop spa, BBQ, lounge & entertaining area. It also has front and back balconies on the main living floor!

It is a huge apartment that can sleep 8 people with ease and has every imaginable amenity including a Miele coffee machine and fridge with an ice-maker.

We shared the apartment between 4 couples and it worked out cheaper than getting our own rooms at a hotel. It was great to all get into the rooftop spa with a cold beer (champagne for the girls) and just watch the action down below.

The building itself (Sierra Grand) also has an excellent Gym, Indoor pool, Outdoor pool, Mini Movie Theater, and several restaurants, and is very close to the beach, the main Broadbeach restaurant district and Pacific Fair Shopping Centre. To be honest though, we didn't want to leave the place much except to go out for dinner.

I don't think you can book the penthouses through the Mantra group... we went through this website: http://www.goldcoastluxuryresorts.com.au/

We are already planning our next trip up.

Room Tip: Rooms on the side facing Surfers Paradise are better because you can still see the beach, but at nig...
