Claudia and Tobi have created a treasure that I'm tempted not to tell of in the hopes that it never changes. Our comfortable and very tastefully designed rooms stood in the midst of palm trees and a lush, colourful garden tended with utmost care. Every morning our rooms were cleaned and sheets and towels changed. After an early morning walk on the beach, followed by a swim, we eagerly sat down to Claudia's exquisite breakfast, something different every day brought to our tables by a smiling Tobi. Papaya and other wonderful fruit, sobes, tortillas, eggs, local bread....and always special eggs for the youngest member of our family group (aged 2). Villa Don Manuel is totally secluded and the most wonderful quiet paradise to return to each evening on foot along the beach from the tiny village of Barra de Potosì (about 1 km's walk). The sound of the ocean is constant and literally across the road from the B&B where Tobi's lovingly cared for palms create an avenue of private access to the beach where he has also built a shady area with hammocks to swing in. I can not more highly recommend Villa Don Manuel (dogs welcome too) and hope to return before too long.

Went with an Audubon bird.watching group so nearness to the lagoons was a plus. Beach across small street lined with palms and great for long walks. Villa Don Manuel excellent, quiet and restful and food delicious. Setting in palms, flowers, ponds and a nice swimming pool could not have been better. Proximity to picturesque Zihaunajuato an asset . Will recommend it to my friends back in New York.

For each of the past three years we have been taking small groups of Americans and Canadians for week long yoga retreats to the Villa Don Manuel in the Barra de Potosi. Each year has been a wonderful experience. From the moment we started planning these retreats with our hosts, Claudia & Toby, we were met with only the greatest of care.
Their small intimate hotel is beautifully set in a tropical garden with fountains, stone sculptures, a pool and private access to the beach. The rooms are simple, beautiful, always clean and we appreciate the thoughtful touches of small treats in the room. The breakfasts that are included in the price of the room are extraordinarily delicious. We eat all of our meals there and each meal is a highlight of the day because Claudia is a fabulous cook. The food is creative, made and served with loving care. The menu is alta cocina Mexican with vegetarian, fish or meat choices. Claudia and Toby are delightful and were always willing and eager to take care of any of our needs. We highly recommend Villa Don Manuel for a retreat, family gathering or simply a vacation stay at the beach.

Wow, how refreshing it was to stay at Villa Don Manuel in Barra de Potosi. Toby and Claudia were our hosts. They run this beautiful bed and breakfast in Barra de Potosi. We loved the ambiance, the tranquility of the place and the good nature of our hosts.

The breakfast was very well prepared, we had Chilaquiles with eggs and the freshest fruit that only in Mexico you can savour, it grows everywhere close to Villa Don Manuel.

Barra de Potosi is only 20 minutes drive from Zihuatanejo, add about 15 more for a departure from Ixtapa. Toby our host offered to take bring us there, we were staying in Ixtapa, but we declined as we rented a vehicle.

"Definate Zen is what my girlfriend described it as.

So glad I avoided Ixtapa and went out on a limb with Barra de Potosi, and in particular Villa Don Manuel.
As my wife said upon returning to the grounds one night, "this place is enchanted, if I lived here I'd never leave." This pretty much sums it up.
And as for Barra de Potosi itself, it made Zihuatanejo feel like Lima by comparison. It really does redefine the laid-back, authentic Mexican experience. It's perfect. I can see why Canadian and American expats are calling it home and never planning on returning.
And a big thanks to Toby y Claudia for working as hard as they have to make this place the absolute paradise it is. Will be back as soon as we can.
