“Not worth the visit.”

Vasco Da Gama Statue
Reviewed March 27, 2014

The monument has been vandalised and there were unsavoury characters drinking beer next to the monument. Lots of condoms, bottles, paper and other rubbish lying around.

A turn off the main road on a gravel track leads you 200 yards to the monument. A few stone pillars with very hard to read inscriptions and no view to compensate.

The town is quiet and laid back with factories along the water. The beach is not well taken care of. We found broken bottles and a dead seal ... seems to have been lying there for quite some time.

I think that much more could be made of Vasco Da Gama's heritage than three stone 'tablets' adjacent to a building with quite a lot of litter and broken glass. I wouldn't suggest that anyone spend the time to deviate from the main road to visit it in its current form.

We found out about this statue from trip advisor and spent the morning to go see it since we were in the area. As already mention the description is a bit worse for wear. Glad we went the beach in front is a great one to walk on. Pity about the liter and broken bottles around the stones though.
