Decided to book Fischers to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The whole meal was a delight. One of our party was vegetarian and was pleased to find they had a separate vegetarian menu with interesting choices, so much so, that another person in the party decided to choose their main course from that menu.
The thing that made the meal special were the little extras, the canapés in the bar before the meal (the aubergine mousse in a crisp cone was gorgeous), an amuse bouche, (though not sure that the tomato jelly was strictly vegetarian!), a mint and lime granita as a palate cleanser between the main course and dessert, plus chocolates with coffee made a 3 course meal feel like a banquet.
My personal selections of a smoked rib of beef and turbot were both equally delicious, the flavours were really unusual. I consider myself to be a reasonable cook, and often find myself thinking, when I go out, that I could have cooked the meal just as well myself. That certainly was not the case with this meal - in fact we had to ask what one of the vegetables was.
Throughout the meal the staff were polite and attentive - the courses arrived promptly, but I never felt rushed. All in all a lovely evening.

We booked a meal at Fischer"s on the strong recommendation of friends. Perhaps the mistake was to choose the "Taster" menu - 10 different dishes but mostly so small that we hardly had a taste. The food was beautifully prepared and presented, with some novel ideas but some ingredients represented by so small a smear or blob on the plate that only the menu left at the table revealed their presence; not so the green froth on 3 of the dishes and the mound of tasteless and texture-less giant couscous with the lamb - surely foam went out of fashion ages ago? Service was good and attentive, but the whole atmosphere was totally subdued and joyless - really not a fun evening. Both food and wine are vastly over-priced and it all felt so pretentious. Not one we shall return to.

I was recently taken on a birthday suprise to Fischers my husband arranged for us to have a weekend there.
From the moment we arrived the very attentive staff were amazing and looked after us very well.
The restaurant was amazing for dinner and the pre dinner canapés were delicious, almost a first course themselves. This Michelin star gem is well worth a visit set in lovely grounds and owned by a couple who have great staff to compliment the whole experience
Try the Botanicals gin if you are a gin buff excellent as is the champagne.

The aperitifs are astonishing & the tasting menu is a stream of culinary delights. The kitchen staff are geniuses. All courses are inventive & mind 'blowingly' good. The rooms are beautiful and the wine list extensive, offering good value at the lower end.

Despite all this my wife & I left feeling we would be unlikely to return. We felt stifled by the lack of enjoyment in the restaurant. Waiters are pleasant & well informed but they do not appear to be proud of the establishment. Most of the fellow diners were to accustomed to such decadence. They appeared to be so wealthy that this was not a special occasion for them.

When we push the boat out we like to feel a buzz of life in the room. Maggie Thatcher & her pals would have loved this places undoubted quality & old world skill. This old dog still likes to feel a tad more entertained. The room, meal & breakfast price is as expensive as The Rolls Royce Owners life-style guide that can be found under the room coffee table.

Simply superb from start to finish! We were invited here for a special celebration and the whole afternoon was delightful. We were greeted with a glass of sparkling wine and some really fantastic canapes. These were quite different flavour combinations, very originally presented on a horticultural theme (eg crab arancini presented like a topiary ball on a stick in a small plant pot).
Our orders were taken and soon we were shown into the relaxed but elegant private dining room. The staff were quietly efficient. The food was beautifully presented, mini works of art in fact, and again, some really interesting flavour combinations. The portions weren't huge, but this is fine dining! We were never hurried, the whole meal seemed to move along very smoothly. Limitless coffee and hand-made chocolates finished the meal Afterwards we spent some time in their lovely large garden and took a look at their vegetable garden. Would definitely recommend, particularly for a small group of diners.
