We had our wedding reception at the Devonshire Arms and were highly delighted. We would recommend it to any other couple looking for a venue.

We shortlisted several venues in the Peak District and after our initial visit to the Devonshire knew it was the right location for us.

They were very flexible from the start, working to our budget, accommodating our food and drink choices and timing for the day. Nothing was too much trouble or a problem. It was emphasised that it was our day and they would try to accommodate anything we would like. They even got me in a barrel of my favourite beer. However, they also gave us advice and suggestions where needed.

On the day itself we had a buffet lunch and an evening meal for 60. We were very impressed with the presentation and quality of the food which is home cooked with fresh local ingredients. All three courses were delicious. We had some very positive feedback from all of our guests.

The service from Dave and his team was very efficient. The whole day ran very smoothly and was excellent value for money.

We stayed at the Devonshire in 3 rooms last night. Yes the rooms are on the small side but perfectly clean, quiet and comfortable. The service from the manager and his staff was absolutely excellent - very warm and friendly. We ate a good homecooked meal in the evening. The food was simple but hot, tasty and very good value for money. We walked into the Chatsworth Estate in just half an hour, all on the flat - perfect.

Fantastic stay at the devonshire arms! All the staff were extremely helpful; Heather one of the bar staff made us feel very welcome and provided excellent customer service. The breakfast was delicious and the rooms clean and nicely decorated. Great value for money... Not a bad word to say!

We decided to stay in Baslow because we were going to the Bonfire and Fireworks at Chatsworth House. The Hotel is Lovely and the location was perfect for a nice stroll into Chatsworth. We were really impresed with the warm welcome we recieved on our arrival, I liked the fact we were shown to our room not just given directions and left to it. The room was very clean and comforatable and the decor is nice and modern. We had the full english breakfast which was delicious. We will definately return to the Devonshire Arms in the future.

Me and a colleague offer landscape photography workshops in the peak district and booked with the hotel just as they were finishing their renovation work. Despite the odd water leak, the experience was good until the Sunday morning (although the restaurant/pub combination was loud on the friday/saturday night).

We explicitly told the staff that we would need to leave on Sunday morning to shoot a sunrise and were told that the doors would be open. When we got up we found locked doors. I walked back into the hotel and followed the fire exit signs to see how else to get out but found a wardrobe blocking the corridor that the fire exits pointed down. I moved the wardrobe out of the way in the only direction that it would move that would clear the fire exit and then finally found myself in the bar. The fire exit doors here were locked also but with a little push they opened.

I remained behind to look after the hotel (not wanting to leave the hotel open without cover). Finally, some staff arrived and I was told all was OK.

It turns out that the night porter was in an unmarked room that ended up blocked by the wardrobe and who panicked when the alarm went off and he was barred in his room and so called the police (a story I find difficult to beleive as the police should surely turn up if that call were made - especially as he was locked in his room for 3 hours with customers and property at risk).

Anyway the rest of the trip was OK and I wrote the problems off to teething issues and figured they had been put out as well.

However, after the weekend we booked the hotel for a further two weekends later in the year. The first weekend that we booked we had to cancel and phoned to tell them we didn't have enough customers.

Our business picked up nicely later and we had 8 customers for our next weekend course and three days before hand we went down to the hotel in person to finalise arrangements such as how many rooms, etc.

When we arrived we were told that there were no rooms available. We said that it must be because we were booked. It turns out that we hadn't and the managers reponse was "Well it's one of our busiest weekends so you can't expect us to hang on to rooms!". This, despite the fact that our names were still in their desk booking diary (not crossed out) along with our contact details.

This lack of decency to contact us to ask whether we wanted the rooms or even to tell us that they were unable to provide the rooms would maybe be OK (although I would still have been irate).

To ignore someones business booking on purpose (not an accident) and put their business at risk due to this is unforgiveable. They even had the audacity to tell us "You'll find it difficult to get rooms this weekend!"..

Do not risk your business with a company that has this sort of attitude (oh, and the packed lunch sucked too).
