Ok, it's Pub Grub, but it is very good Pub Grub and you won't hear "ping ping" in the background as they quickly microwave your meal. There 8oz steaks on the "two for £10" are cooked to perfection and incredible value as are the rest of the meals on that and the main menu and they do a fabulous El Cipre Malbec for a very reasonable £13.
The staff are exceptionaly pleasant and if you are lucky enough to be served by Greg you will want for nothing, no matter how busy they are.
There are many local hostelries who would benefit from taking a leaf out of this Pubs book. Keep up the good work guys (and girls)

They say you get what you pay for, and for rooms above a pub, this is a wonderful little place for a short break. We stayed in two different rooms and in both the bed was wonderfully comfortable, clean & luxurious. Of course it is not 5/4 star but it is charming and there is attention to detail; plus the staff are super nice, relaxed and welcoming. Good breakfast & dinners downstairs, mixture of locals and tourists, walking distance to Chatsworth... You really are helped to feel at home! thank you for helping to create lovely memories in the beautiful Peak District.

This was our first visit to the Peak District and will certainly not be our last. The hotel is wonderful, we stayed in room one which was very large and spacious, very comfortable bed with nice white linen, and lovely fluffy towels in the bathroom.

Had dinner 2 for £10 - great value and was served by Greg who is a lovely friendly young man. Thank you for looking after us and pointing us in the direction of the Castleton Caves.

A big thank you to the breakfast team for great service and great food. Most welcome after the wine consumed with dinner.

We stayed for 2 nights in November. Room was nice particularly bearing in mind the price we paid. The main problem we had was as it was unseasonabley warm,we found the room just much too hot. We turned off the radiators but with thick heating pipes running through the room it was difficult to cool it down. Hence we had the windows open all the time and but being 5 metres from the main road then made it very noisy.
The breakfast was ok and the meals in the restaurant were typical chain pub food ok but not particularly inspiring.
The hotel is ideal for Chatsworth, you can walk to the house if you have plenty of time or just go for a walk through the grounds.

Room Tip: On the back away from the road would be best.

We stayed here as it was my partners birthday which turned into a big let down.
This pub is a lovely place with friendly, helpful staff. Our room was small but looked clean. Even though it’s on a main road you could hardly hear the traffic.
The downfalls are the plumbing and the wafer thin walls. I flushed the loo and the floor vibrated right through into the bedroom. The noise from the toilet was so loud i'm sure the whole hotel could hear it. I could hear the noise from other rooms around us when they flushed it. I've stayed at places before with the saniflow system but have never heard 1 like this before. (That’s if it was a saniflow system)
We had a meal in the pub where the food was ok but average pub grab. Sadly for me I forgot to use my 20% off the food bill for booking a room direct with Marston’s. But never-mind the staff were great and the services was very good.
When we returned to our room we could hear everything being said in the next room. We felt like we could join in the conversation with them. Of all the places we have stayed in from cheap budget hotels to 5 star hotels we have never known walls so thin.
So much for a romantic night.
We have stayed in Marston’s pubs before and not heard the neighbour’s. Not only was the plumbing system a nightmare there was a tapping noise all night long which i couldn't decide if it was something dripping or the plumbing. On top of that we had to listen to the tv and the people next door until the early hours. So not a good night’s sleep. If you stay here take ear plugs as you will need them.
The breakfast order the next morning was wrong even though we could hear the waitress shouting the order to the chef in the kitchen. There was no milk on the table, When we went into the area where breakfast was served we was told where we had to sit. The breakfast was lovely though, they get 10 out of 10 for that.
When we returned to our room we could hear the toilet next door and feel the vibration through the floor. What we also found strange was when the tap was running or you were in the shower every now and again the plumbing system started making a noise and vibrating again. The shower taps are not fitted correctly and move when you turn the shower on or off and there was black mold in the shower. So what looked like a lovely place to stay turned into a bad experience. I can’t see us staying here again unless they do something with the plumbing and sound proof the rooms. When we checked out we weren’t even asked how are stay was but I did leave a comment in the book outside our room.
If i had seen the other comments about the plumbing i would not of booked here.

Room Tip: take earplugs with you or stay at another hotel

This is an excellent establishment which we use regularly for both food and accomodation. However they have now fitted a very noisy toilet system in the top floor accomodation which seriously affected our sleep

The staff here are lovely, the breakfast great, evening meal in the pub is adequate for chain pub food. I paid £50 for a double room with breakfast which is a great price. The rooms are spacious but unfortunately it is really, really noisy, I have never heard anything like the noise the plumbing makes and also the noise from the floor above makes you think the ceiling is made of paper. Rooms are reasonably clean, however mould in shower area is quite off putting.
