Go see the movies, very inspiring. Lots to learn about the first ascent of Mt Cook. Take a scenic flight, or the boat on the Tasman Lake to see the Tasman Glacier. Amazing!

As of the end of February things have changed here. It is no longer possible to go into the museum section free of charge. At the door we were told there is now a NZ $20 charge just to enter. You have to pay even if you do not want to watch any of the movies in the movie theater. I am not sure Sir Ed would approve of this.

A much better option is to visit the information center just a couple of hundred meters away down the hill. Here there are wonderful displays about the area and local mountaineering history. There are numerous original photographs and documents on display and there are a number of videos running all the time. The displays are spread over two floors. Unlike at the Ed Hillary Museum there is no charge here at all.

What a joke. You are better off looking at the stars from your room.
The guide had a thick accent and spoke so fast that you missed most of want he was saying.
Starts inside and then you go by bus to the airfield field in order to be in total darkness to view the stars.
Heck, you can be in total darkness by walking 30 feet from the hotel entrance.
Seriously this was the worst thing we did during sour two week adventure in NZ?

The Alpine centre provides a good view of the mountain ranges. During a rainy afternoon, the temperature coupled with hot chocolates and good company would take the gloomy feeling away.

My adult daughter and I just did the free part of the museum as the movie portion didn't seem worth it.
