“An enjoyable stay”
Reviewed May 11, 2012

Stayed here one night late April. It was very quiet and for a while we were the only camper there and could pick our own secluded spot in the very private little powered parking bays amongst the trees. We chose a site which had lovely views of a snow tipped Mt Cook and were visited by some 'friendly' fowl like birds (looked like pheasants) who wanted handouts and lots of rabbits.

The staff in the office at the shop were very helpful and made you feel welcome. The coffee in the shop was great and service super friendly. You can get helicopter flights from here to all the mountain sites and scenic flights as well as horse trekking. The shop has a very warm cosy licenced restaurant and sells quality merino woollen garments and alpine clothing and a limited supply of wine and beer but is not cheap.

The campsite is situated near Lake Pukaki and the bottom end of the Tasman Glacier and is about 18km from the Mt Cook village. Takes approx 15mins to drive to the village where all the 'action' is and you can drive up to the base of the Tasman Glacier and look down on it.

Glentanner Park is on a working sheep station and sheep are frequently seen crossing the road in flocks. Very picturesque against the green fields and snow clad mountains. Very NZ.

Facilities are good at the park and a great BBQ area is set under cover if the weather is warm.

A very nice place to spend a day or two. Recommended.

I stayed for 2 nights at the park. I like the friendly and very helpful staff. They specially arranged for me horsetrekking which is supposed to be closed for the season. Thank you so much..the staff, Jenny and Jordy...it was cold and freezing and raining. They still went on with the plan. Else I won't be doing anything at all because of the unfriendly weather. Besides that, the view from the park is spectacular!! I was lucky to see that snowcap hills around me. Amemities are clean and well mantained. I can't complain. Everything is just great!! As sweet as NZ ;)

We stayed two nights in a self contained cabin, which is really more a motel type unit as it is attached to others. The rooms are spacious and kitchen well equipped. Generous supply of towels and good shower. Its a basic no fuss room but clean and more than adequate. The parks common room had a nice fire and tv with sky and the common area kitchen large and clean. We were lucky not to have others in next door rooms and having few others around made it easy to enjoy the tranquility of the area. We did some walks into the glacier lakes which is highly recommended as the views are truely awesome.

This is just about the only campsite near to Mount Cook village. We were invited to park up wherever we liked in what was a large grassed area with trees/bushes/scrubland, with water and power posts every so often. Lots of space and the feeling of being away from everywhere. The kitchen/eating block is worth being in at sunset because you can keep popping out as the shadows and colours on the mountains constantly change. It is SO beautiful. In fact the views all around are stunning. The wash block is somewhat basic and chilly but I guess it matches the outdoor feel of this place. There is cooked food available at the reception cafe (which we didn't try) and a tiny amount of food for sale too - so take what you need with you and probably for the next day too if you plan to visit the Edmund Hillary centre and area further on where again 'food shopping' is limited to say the least!

We stayed here for 3 nights over Easter and could not fault the location with lovely views towards Mount Cook. The unit was clean and comfortable and sufficient for our needs although the walls are thin and we got woken by the guests next door, even though they were not noisy.
However despite it being Easter weekend the cafe was not open in the evening and the shop selling postcards etc was not open in the day. We drove the 15mins to Mount Cook for dinner one night and cooked the others but it would have been nice to have been able to get a light meal in the evening. The cafe is supposed to be open in the evenings during the summer and it was probably our fault for not checking that they were strict in their definition of summer. The staff that cleaned the room were nice but reception a bit brusque.

Thank you for taking the time to review your experience at Glentanner, over Easter. It is great to hear you loved our views, and that you were more than satisfied with your unit. I am sorry the Café was not open in the evening. Yes, it is only open for evening meals in the summer – this is due to the lack of demand for the remainder of the year. Being open over Easter is something I will put forward to the Glentanner Café Staff for next year though.

It is a shame you missed our Merino Retail and Souvenir Shop being open, again sorry about this – it is open every day throughout the year and over Easter it was open until 5.30pm (except on the Monday as there were very few people around so it closed up at 4pm). I will pass your comments onto our staff.

Thanks again, we hope to see you back to enjoy our views and services very soon!

Kind Regards,

Kate Ivey and the Team at Glentanner Park Centre

We were in a camper van. Very spacious & nice outdoor feeling. Great view especially the night sky. The staff were very welcoming. We took a heli ride up to the mountains. Fantastic experience.

I & My Family 5 people stay here for one night on 29th Jan. 2012. (Self Contained Cabin)
We like the beautiful scenery of Mount Cook. The Room also very clean & tidy.
We all quite happy to stay in this motel but one thing that we are unhappy is the bed unable
to sleep 4 adult & 1 children, although we paid for 5 people & state in booking form that 2 double & 1 single but instead we only give 1 double, 1 single & 1 small sofa (only can sleep one chiildren!). I book again in this coming 26th May, hope able improve this situation.

Thank you very much for your excellent review. Great to hear you are back in May! The sofa is actually a pull out bed - I am sorry this was not explained to you. When you return you will see there is lots of space for 2 children on the double fold out sofa!
