Was quite a small place, would hate to see it packed!! Food was good, not outstanding, service was friendly tho.
Not too badly priced, more range of saki would have been nice.

Aqua serve lovely food with a wide range of Japanese beers to wash it down. The edamame are served in a huge portion, and the yakisoba had some crazy dried fish on it that twisted and turned in the steam... or maybe that was the effect of the beer. The staff are really friendly and it is also very reasonable - starter and main with 2 beers for under $30. As others have said, either go early or make sure you book.

Agree with the other reviewers this is a very cosy and economical authentic Japanese restaurant. I had previously heard about the trouble getting a table so we arrived before it opened and just wandered down the street until opening time. We sat at a large communal like table which made it a fun and entertaining night, as you get to talk and interact with others around you..
We had Miso and another traditional soup for starters. To be honest it was not to our liking as it was very different but I am not a great fan of Miso any way. It was cold and we thought soup might warm us up. Next time I think I will just have the Sake instead! We then shared very fresh Salmon Sashimi and rice, this was lovely.
Our last dish was fish balls wrapped in bonito flakes. Not knowing before hand when Bonito flakes are cooked they start to wave around and look like they are moving on the food. I could not believe my eyes and was wondering how and why had they just bought me out a plate of food that looked like a wriggling mass of live fish shaped in a ball. Others at our table also noticed, we were laughing so hard it drew the attention of the poor Japanese waitress. She then tried to profusely assure us that it was ok and we were not about to eat live fish.
Would recommend eating at Aqua Sushi if you like traditional style Japanese cuisine. Make sure you order the fish balls just for the laugh, they taste delicious as well.
