It had been about 4 years since our last visit and I'm really sorry for that. The staff, room, food and amenities were excellent. We stayed in a higher end room this time - Renoir, but of course we spent most of our time outside so we did not need that kind of room. We have been to other resorts in those 4 years but none compare to this place.

Very private and destressing...we always enjoy top notch service. Although most resorts have a four pm checkin and eleven am checkout I think for the price guests should be able to enjoy the room a bit longer...two pm is more reasonable..We stay in a spa villa..Andromeda and Draco...
there's always a rush to enjoy the in-room saunas and jacuzzi before it's dinner time and you can't sleep in if you want to have enough time to do the same in the morning. The rooms need new couches and mattresses. Our bed was sinking on one side. The food is great however if you order the same dish as your previous stay it comes different than the previous time only to find out too late. The Arancini appetizer always seems to be different.

Their website does not clearly define options: A repeat guest is able the enjoy the loyalty program which includes a one hour spa treatment. They don't tell you it's only for one of you.
The prices of accomodation continuously change and alot of the time when you try to call them to
verify info no one answers the phone. We do however recommend this retreat....but I don't think we will be going back until the furniture is replaced.

Thanks for your kind words on recommending us as a retreat.
The best way to say thanks to all the staff is exactly as you have done, make a positive comment on TripAdvisor, then all the staff can read it, as they all follow it and look forward to your positive reviews.
We are aware that a few pieces of furniture could be a little newer at our resort but thankfully most of our guests can overlook the slight wear until we can afford to replace them. In the Villas the Mattresses’ furniture Is brand new 2 years ago, almost to the date. We absolutely know how critical a good mattress is at Couple Resort, and we order the finest quality beds in Canada. I do not know why you didn’t like your bed, it is perfect to our eyes and touch, and no one else has mentioned anything to us at the front desk. I am sorry you did not sleep well, maybe with the extra fluffy topping we put on the bed was just too much. If you or anyone else has a poor bed let us know ASAP, even if it is in the middle of the night, we can help make a change. We know that some of our couples can be rambunctious but the quickest we have ever had a bed fail was in 5 years, and that was before they made the upgrades to accommodate our couples. These beds now have 20 year warranties and we typically provide new in the 5 to 10 year range depending on use of the accommodation unit. For now the newest furniture is in the Master’s Suites (2005), Exotics (2011) and the Jr Suites (2012), please stay with us here next year or until you read about the changes you are looking for on Facebook. The owner says when we can take a break from building new staff houses he is ready to put more money into the Resort amenities again. Unfortunately or fortunately he says that we need staff as a first priority to take care of all these couples who need special time away. In regards to the appetizer, even with the same recipe, each Chef has his or her own style, so it probably will be a little different each time, our Executive Chef, Ronnie, loves to see creativity. The prices of the rooms do change by season (we just came off of a 70% off period in the spring and will continue again at the end of October) and are also based on occupancy, usually prices go up the closer one gets to a the day one wants as less and less rooms are available. Rarely they go down the closer one gets, and if it does go down it goes down for everyone in that accommodation type, so it is ok to book early even if prices go down as you will still get the benefit. I hope this clears some confusion on pricing. We always have 2 office receptionists on 8:30 am to 9pm to answer calls, and it can be that the phones are that busy. We also have myself, Darlene, on Chat to help you out and we allow you to book on-line. We don’t want to miss you, that is for sure. In a couple of weeks we will have Fibre Optics coming into the resort to replace the 2 bridged T1’s and if there are phone issues, this will help.
We do look forward to seeing you again. Be sure to follow us on Facebook for any updates we may make to the rooms.

This was our second time at the Couples Resort. The last was 2005... A very nice addition is the spa - while my (crazy) husband went for a 3 hour bike ride in Algonquin Park, I had a wonderful scrub treatment. As per the first time - service is exceptional - all staff are eager to make your stay fantastic. We stayed in the DaVinci room - BIG, with more amenities than we needed - we did not use the inside jacuzzi, or the outdoor hot tub.... Dinner - yum yum - all the courses were fantastic. So good I had to take pictures.....

Room Tip: If you like sleeping in a room with a soft (i.e., not hard) mattress, ask for the DaVinci Room.

We recently stayed for three nights in a Chateau. We were overall very pleased with this resort.

There were a number of things that we would rate as excellent. Such as: the dining, our accommodation, the view, the grounds, room service menu, location and the level of activity.

Some of the staff were amazing. Most notable were: Derek (dining room host), Derek (our server), Erika (recreation)and Jade (bar/restaurant).

Admittedly, for what we paid, we were expecting top notch all round. Mostly it was, but there were definitely some inconsistencies with service that were not what we were expecting from a "5 star ultra luxury resort".

To name a few:
-we took our own chilled white wine to dinner, the first night it was simply uncorked and set on the table to grow warm, the next night it was placed in a tableside ice bucket

-telephone calls to the front desk to have our in-room ice bucket filled, ask for more towels and also a message for a return call were never responded to.

-we overheard a staff member telling another couple that they were able to split up their 1/2 day boat rental, when we returned ours we were told this was not allowed

It was also disappointing that the dining room dress code was not enforced. Noticeably absent were ties. We saw men in open collared short sleeved shirts, a golf shirt paired with a jacket, and on our last night we even saw a guy who had on a western-type plaid shirt.

Of course, all of this is petty. But for what we paid, I think we should have been able to expect attention to the little things.

I'll mention as well that our room had the unmistakeable smell of cigarette smoke smell. We kept the doors and windows opened as much as possible and thankfully had brought scented candles, which seemed to help, but the smell was quite evident.

I am happy to answer any questions.

Thank you for your rave review on all the excellent things we do. We also hope that you had a fun and enjoyable time while having quality time together.
All the staff do read the site, so they appreciate your positive comments on their exceptional service. We call ourselves 5 Star Ultra Luxury for the Accommodations we offer and we are glad we meet your expectations. Service will consistently be high here at our Resort and if we forget or make a rare gaff we apologize, we are always trying for near perfection.
When you talked to the owner, John, about the ½ day motorboat rental; not being able to be split, he did allow it for you, but he also reiterated with the other staff that it is not possible to do anymore as other customers may have already pre-booked it for the following day, and they should not be disappointed.
The Dining Room Semi-formal dress code came into full affect July 1st when you left. We notified our 2000 fans on Facebook, 3 months Prior, that we were going Semi-Formal for dinner starting on July 1st. Those guests who already were pre-booked prior to the 3 months were exempt. As of July 1st there are no more exemptions, we have ties, for the Gentlemen, on standby for those that casually forget theirs. Room service (naked after the meals are delivered) is also a fine option.
We do fine guests exceptionally hard if we find they smoke in our rooms, and we have a process of cleaning out the accommodations. This is very rare here and we are not aware of any such instances in the last couple of years. Wood smoke combined with the fire starters that have some chemical in it, may for some, smell like cigarette smoke, we are glad that the air was wonderful and that you enjoyed keeping your windows and doors open, I hope you heard some wonderful songs from the loons calling late into the night, or perhaps an owl hooting in the distance. Thank you for your help in making us continue to strive. We hope to see you again soon. JohnS-Owner.

We stayed at Couples mid June for 3 nights. We were a bit apprehensive as we prefer modern, boutique style hotels and some of the reviews spoke about it being dated but we needn't have worried.
We stayed in spa villa Gaea which was very spacious with good storage and good sized fridge. We had a chair and ottoman in the room which were a bit dated, tatty (fabric torn on the arm) and looked like they needed a bit of a clean. However there was also a big leather sofa which was very comfortable. The bed was enormous with a mattress topper and comfy pillows so this was a big plus. The bathroom is probably a bit dated for some tastes however the fact that there was a double shower/steam room and a sauna in the bathroom meant that dated tiles were not a problem as these facilities right in your own room was again another plus point.
The villa had a huge fireplace which made it very cosy but we didn't use as was warm and with the black flies and Mosquitos we didn't want windows left open. The tv was an old one but worked fine.
The villa had a good sized terrace with v comfy, padded sunloungers and we got the sun on our terrace from 7am till late lunch. The view is very pretty and the gardens around the resort are nicely planted.
We didn't use the hot tub in the room and accompanying bath foam etc were expensive given that they are not a high end brand. So bring your own if you plan to use the hot tub.

For dinner you do have to dress up a bit but men are ok with smart shirt and trousers, my husband didn't wear a tie or jacket but others did. The dining room is a bit dated but in a nice way with nice views from many tables. Service was always very good and very friendly and on the whole the food was good. I wouldn't say it was the best food I have ever had but the desserts were very good. The staff were happy to box them up for us as we never had any room left as the portion sizes were quite large for entrees. We only had glasses of wine but these were reasonably priced. Breakfast was just one choice from a menu of about 7 dishes and was fine but would have been nice to get some toast on the side without being charged for it.

We used the canoes. The day after we used the canoes my husband overheard the male staff member in the sport centre telling a couple for sites to look out for on the lake. When we took the canoe out the female staff member just handed over the oars and told us nothing so it would be useful for a short written guide to be provided if staff aren't going to be consistent in wanting to help you get the most out of the lake area. We were disappointed to hear that we had missed out on seeing a few things.

There was a safe in the wardrobe but as this was not fixed it could easily have been lifted out which is a bit worrying.

Also the coffee in our villa was free but we checked before using as there are two notes saying each pod is $2 so that's not clear and should be scrubbed from the instructions.

While its true that some things are a bit dated for some tastes we saw past that and really enjoyed our stay. It is a very peaceful resort (apart from a male staff member racing out of the car park with music blaring) and couples staying were of varying ages.

Tip
Shops and supermarkets in the immediate vicinity aren't great for choice so would suggest stocking up before you get there.

Looks like you had a very relaxing time with us while you were here. I am glad you were able to enjoy so much time lounging in the sun. Your husband just managed to slip in under the wire before our tie rule took affect on the first of July. Please take note that as of July 1st ties are mandatory for dinner. We will provide one if you forget to pack one. I am glad you took advantage of having dessert later on in the comfort of our room as it is something not to be missed. And the meals sometimes leave little room for that. The dining room is all new 2 years ago in an old European fashion. We will talk to Erika and Kailey in the Sports Centre about sharing their knowledge. Erika is a Sorensen Family member so her knowledge is far deeper. We provide 2 free k-caps per day so you can have your morning coffee before the breakfast dining room is open. See you again soon.

It was a wonderful and relaxing three days. The meals in the diningroom were among the best we've had and we used to live in Toronto. The staff were so personable and helpful. Lots of activities and the rooms are great - we booked a junior suite which was all they had left and you really don't need anything more. Free firewood and a room service gourmet breakfast. They have thought of everything. Will be back for sure.

We stayed in May for 5 days and it was absolutely perfect!

Junior suite was more than adequate, and we loved the rustic feel of the wooden walls and fireplace smell ... Combined with the luxury of jacuzzi and a super comfy bed. Extremely relaxing with no shortage of activities, we played tennis, canoed, and went for bike rides.

Staff was great all super friendly warm and welcoming.

Food was incredible! Breakfast and dinner were definitely more than enough we never even ate the snacks we brought! Highlight for my husband was the seafood pasta and for me was the steak ( however it comes with a large amount of Asian tasting sauce that was too overpowering so I ordered it another night without the sauce - perfect!). And desserts were all fantastic.

We brought our own k cups and brought wine (corkage at 15$ is very reasonable) - do your research before coming and you'll avoid those extra fees many people complain about.

In agreement with a previous review, I feel the owner needs to tone down the hostile replies to critics of his establishment. It is a huge turn off for potential visitors, and multiple people have made similar comments. Having read some of the comments left on bad reviews, no matter what people say, responding to people in such a way is not acceptable in the service/ hospitality industry.

Other than that keep up the great work!

Thank you for your review and staying with us despite how we treat scammers. We do love people talking to us about our Resort and how people enjoyed their time away together. TripAdvisor is an open forum and if guests want to be critical to us at the Resort, only for the benefit of themselves, than we as the workers will act accordingly to protect all those guests who love the Resort and never comment on this forum. The great news for us at the Resort is that those multiple people that we have been reciprocally hard to, make up only less than 1 in a 1000 guests. You can see if we have over a 1000 guests per month and only 1 or less negative review per month, than these people are not people you or I would want to associate with. We do love the feedback we receive from our guests on the areas they would like to see improved, and we appreciate that guests compare us to other Canadian Holidays as our wage rates and costs are the same. When you see me walking around the Resort, feel free to express your views, I love to chat. In the end we are working tirelessly on keeping this place for you and we earnestly thank you for supporting us. Hope to see you again soon. JohnS-Owner.
