We stayed at the Couples resort March 27 and 28th, 2011 in the Master Junior Suites and it was great as always, we love going there to get away and relax. The only problem we had was the room service food, breakfast we didn't get everything we ordered and the omelet was good by by the time I got my maple surup for my french toast it was very cold (and wasn't almond encrusted as says on menu). For supper (room service) food was cold and my husband order a steak med. well but got a very rare steak and could not eat. We didn't say anything at the time but when we were leaving I told the front desk staff and she really didn't seem to care and said I should have told the kitchen that night. We did had a great meal the night we arrived in the rest. and I guess that is the secret. I feel that the resort was much better before they became a 5 star (I know the food was much better). We will probably go back again because we like the rooms and the peace and quiet, the real fireplace and your own hot tub. Hopefully they can improve on their room service food.

First off...these rooms are something you see in movies(we stayed in the Monet)..HUGE, well decorated and every everything you cold ask for inside..Marble steam bath/shower, Comfy bed, 50"TV(not that we needed it) Fireplace, Jacuzzi tub(and not a dumpy little tub you get in most of these places...but a big, clean jacuzzi) wet bar, and of course the hot tub on the deck overlooking the lake...absolutely beautiful!!! The only knock at all is the fire tends to make the air in the rooms a little bit dry....Maybe put humidifiers in the rooms?.....but this is not to the point of being complaint worthy.

The Food??? Five courses of complete delight!! I can honestly say I have NEVER eaten so well in my life. The food was incredible and the servers knew the menu and were extremely helpful...Special thanks to Bailee and Joy!!

Its a tad pricey considering the cost of resorts in the south...but U know what? Its worth it....Never had experience like it!!

The couples resort is not like staying at a cottage or the typical cottage resorts. We stayed for two nights in different rooms to take advantage of a special on their website.

Pros:
- Tasty food (especially the dinners.)
- The lake was warm and beautiful. There is very little more beautiful than a hot summer evening in cottage country.
- The staff were very friendly and professional.
- Hot tubs, jacuzzis and beautiful washrooms.
- You can borrow canoes, etc. for free.
- Close to Algonquin Park.

Cons:
- Having a dress code at dinner struck me as formal. There is no casual dining section.
- You must make a dinner reservation and be dressed up and ready to dine for about two hours. So you will have to plan your evening around dinner.
- The dinners are very, very filling. I don't think I could eat like that for more than a couple of nights.
- You are in a narrow area of the lake facing cottages with lawns. It drives us crazy to see people cut down the trees. If I go to the lake, I want to see forest.
- The rooms have very little daylight. It felt like being in a dark condo. This is probably to give more privacy to couples?
- It is pricey.

Overall, it feels like you are staying at a very, very high end condo on a Muskoka lake with fantastic dinners. We had a good time, but the next time we rented a shack in Haliburton with a charcoal bbq and also had a good time.

My husband and I spent one night at The Couples Resort and thoroughly enjoyed it. We booked junior suite which included a beautiful full bathroom and fireplace and jacuzzi right in the room! We were also spoiled with a luxury king size bed.

We are from Toronto and it was quite a hike. It took about 4 hours (including one stop to eat). It was perfect because it was far enough away that we weren't disturbed by cell phones and computers (even though there is a signal and wifi on the premises).

The breakfast and dinner that was fully included was amazing! The staff also incredible. After dinner we spent some time in the activity lounge and played some pool and ping pong.

We were able to enjoy skating and horseback riding the next day. There was also the use of snowshoes, cross country skis and other various equipment at our disposal. It was a relief not to worry about packing all of this stuff.

Other than that the entire resort was well kept, clean and very comfortable. The room was a bit dated but it was still really cute.

Gratuities and tax are all included in the price so you don't need to worry about spending a dime extra unless you want to drink alcohol of course.

The Couple's Resort was recommended to me several different times by several different people...and after experiencing it, i now know why. we drove up to Muskoka / Whitney from Toronto (approx. 4hrs) and upon arrival to the resort, i knew this was a GOOD choice!

Check in was friendly, quick and very imformative...
we arrived to our room, the Congo room in the Exotics Building and right after entering our room, i instantly knew that the money was well worth it!!
VERY clean, everything you need is in your room, no need to call the reception desk for anything.. the furniture and decor was beautiful, such great quality to the furniture!!! we had a fireplace in our room which was perfect for winter time... the firelogs were kept in the main corrider of the building and constantly refilled..
we also had a jacuzzi in the room, bath salts, bubble bath, etc are provided in the room with just a small fee... our balcony also came with a private hot tub, cleaned, filled and ready to use!

some may find their rates a little high but i think it was well worth it! you definitely get what you pay for at the Couple's Resort...the rates also include breakast and dinner and the food was realllly good! (i recommend the bocconcini salad and the steak!) lunch was an extra cost....but we had a fridge in our room so we packed some drinks, sliced ham, turkey, cheese, lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, sliced bread and a small $20 sandwich maker from Walmart... that was perfect for a quick lunch or late night snack!

My fiancee and I recently visited the Couples resort, January 2011 - the low season. We stayed in the Spa Villa - Europa room. Overall the experience was satisfactory but not the 5-star experience that is widely quoted on their site.

PROS
- Private rooms with almost no noise disturbances from other guests. We also traveled during the low season so it was likely that there were very little guests in the other rooms and hence it was quiet.
- Convenience of breakfast delivered to your room and the dining room located close by. Food was not the greatest which I will elaborate on in the CON section.
- Very attentive to food allergies and sensitivities.

CONS
- It was not a gourmet dining experience. Those who say it is, have not tried gourmet dining. It should be re-worded as the best gourmet dining in ALGONQUIN. Our soup always came out luke-warm, entree selections minimal and the service was extremely slow. The wait staff either didn't attend to you at all and were very artificial. Also the 'restaurant lounge' is like a doctor's waiting room, which we had to wait in before our table was ready. Overall, was something we would not like to experience ever again.
- Breakfast was convenient but food was disgusting. I asked for scrambled eggs and instead got an omelette that was cut into several different pieces. The over easy eggs were under cooked to the point the whites were runny also, yuck.
- The general age category was older than expected (50+). Being in our late 20's we didn't feel the supreme customer service that they brag about. Many of the staff members obviously do not know the value of younger customers coming back for many, many more years. I believe their priority is to satisfy the boomer/senior market.
- Over priced for what you get in the package.

Overall, great peaceful accommodation but definitely not a 5-star in terms of service and food quality. Likely will not return.

My husband and I stayed here to celebrate our anniversary, and it was as wonderful as the reviews say.
The staff is beyond friendly, they take the time to make sure that everything is exactly as you like, and the food was wonderful - very happy that there was a Vegetarian section for Entrees!
We stayed in a Junior suite the first night, which was great. A supply of firewood right outside the door and a view of the water was wonderful. That being said, the rest of our stay was in Rhea - a Utopian Chalet. This is where we hope to stay again. It was perfect for a little getaway from everything. With a private hot tub on your deck, overlooking the lake, there is nothing more beautiful in the winter.
Unfortunately due to weather, winter activities in the area were cancelled, but with so many places to take a scenic hike we were not dissapointed.
Overall, I cannot begin to say enough about The Couples Resort.
Thank you all for a wonderful getaway!
