Stayed here in late March 2019 for six nights. In general the hotel was very clean and tidy. Staff were polite and helpful but not very personable. There are plenty of facilities for children, and a gym with limited equipment.

Rooms:
Room was spacious, clean and tidy, and modern. There was a good shower. The glass (opaque) door doesn't afford much privacy in the bathroom.

The bedroom room had a small balcony but it didn't attract much light and we didn't use it much.

The hotel charges (I think) 7 euros a day to use the safe - that's far too much.

Dining / Breakfast:

We ate every evening in the buffet as we were half-board, we didnt the other restaurant (one is pool side, open day time only).

In general the food was very good. There was a wide choice of hot and cold food - a very generous salad bar (which was good for my vegetarian daughter). And a mix of fish, lamb and beef dishes available. Some of the food was a little on the cold side as has been mentioned, but i didnt mind this.

There was a wide range of choices for breakfast. Only complaint was the coffee tasted awful - made from a machine, and it didnt taste very fresh at all.

The dining area can get a little cramped at times, we ate outside in the eveing when we could and it was good to get away from the busier dining area.

Bar
I visited the bar a couple of times, but it didnt feel very welcoming there. They will serve you huge spirit-based drinks for your money though as they dont use measures when pouring. The average drink size was a quadruple measure.

There were a few tourists wondering around singing football chants late at night (why would you do that at a family hotel?) - but this was only one evening.

The hotel seems popular with the British.

Swimming Pools:
There are three swimming pools, one of which is dedicated to young children and infants. We didnt get much of a chance to try the pools because during the day, they use a PA speaker system to do activities, including playing euro / dance music.

This really wasn't for us so we avoided the entire area all holiday. Not for people who appreciate a relaxing swim.
Although there was alot of people around the pool, few people were actually using them. The water was relatively cold. Probably the most disappointing aspect of the holiday.

The beach:

The hotel has an entrance that opens up on to a sandy beach. Water was clear, with fish swimming close to the shore line. The area is enclosed in an artificial bay.

There is a small cafe serving food and drinks on the end of one of the bays.

If you want to use the sun-beds with a carousel / shelter, you will have to pay 12 Euros for the privilege. This is separate from the hotel.

In late March there was quite a strong breeze, although the avaerage temperature in morning until 2pm was around 24 degrees. The sun itself can burn very quickly.

It was consistently cloudy in the afternoons for around 2 hours. It rained heavily on one day, so we went to visit the Salt Museum nearby - this is a good walk and the Salt Museum (believe it or not) is quite interesting and the only cultural centre / museum we could find nearby. Worth trying the restaurant there.

Other stuff to do / visit:

There is a shopping mall with supermarket almost next to the hotel. I dont drive so we were restricted as to where we could go on the island, it might have been good to explore more but we wanted to stay close to the hotel. It's a short walk to the town, which is a tourist hotspot of course. There is a cinema in the mall. There are some beach bars and restaurants along the beach towards the town.

Overall:

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Highlights were the food, for me and the hotel room itself was comfortable and of good quality. Time spent on the beach was relaxing and definitely one of the best aspects. Disappointed with the pools.

We got away from the crowds by signing up to the spa in the hotel next door, which was great for peace and quiet on cloudy days and somewhere to get in some warm water. It cost 60 euros each for a pass to the spa for four days - but facilities there were great

The Hotel Elba, we stayed there last week March 29th to 5th April . The food was excellent, the room we had was clean and fresh, the pool area is clean and tidy. From the start the Reception staff were extremely helpful and friendly, During the week the animation team worked really hard to keep us entertained and the Mama Mia was so funny, we could have watched it again. The staff are extremely friendly and a special shout out to Pene (who went on holiday but made us laugh so much before he left) Special mention to Enid, Abel and Paula for making us feel so welcome and going above and beyond their roles. We will definitely be back, but if we were to give one piece of advice it would be to please paint the outside beach gate as it is what everyone sees walking past and first impressions do count. Thanks Elba team for a lovely holiday

We are currently here staying in a sea view junior suite as a family of four.I paid to transfer to this hotel with Jet2 due to such bad reviews at our original hotel, the Barcelo Castillo. We arrived to a beautiful welcome of Cava for adults, apple juice for the children.Check in was efficient and the reception staff were extremely pleasant!! Our room was spotlessly clean, towels and bedding changed frequently, the maids couldn’t do enough and always gave a friendly “buenos Dias”!! The gardens are stunning and outside areas are kept super clean. The weather has been very cloudy but none of the kids cared as there’s a big heated pool and jacuzzi. We had to drag them away!! Food has been very good, something for everyone....lovely soups, stews, meat and fish.Beautiful salads, cheese, cooked meat and breads. Also great breakfasts.Animation staff are brilliant with both adults and children. We look forward so much to our well earned holidays and this hotel certainly doesn’t disappoint!! Thank you Elba Carlota...Room Tip 364...it’s beautiful xxx

Not what I expected. As I regularly visit its sister hotel. The carlota is poor. I will definitely be going back to my regular hotel next door. Dissapointed in the food choices and very rushed. While your having your meal the staff are setting up for evening meal or lunch. And not concentrating on the meal that's on at the time. And the snack bar was attracting the flys (yuck). The carlota needs take a look at how gd its sister hotel are.(for deffinate). And improve to be as gd as its sister hotels. Won't be coming back

The rooms were nice, spaciuos, as was the toilet. We had a nice view over the pool. The cleaning was a bit hit and miss, I don't think in 2 weeks we were there the balcony was cleaned once. the breakfast was super I had no complaints and the dinning room staff were great. The evening meal was in my opinion totally disorganised in as much as food not replenished until nothing was left then you need to wait. At the carver one of the cooks was carving the the joint thinner than parma ham. Totally unacceptable I did complain to management but not a lot changed. Dinning room dress code a waste of time as anything goes and no one challenged. These hotels need to get their act together and either have a dress code, or let the clients know shorts and casual wear is acceptable for evening dinning.
The Italian speciality dinning experience is a joke, the amount of wasted food there is not funny. for instance I ordered a desert Tiramisu which when arrived had a layer of sponge on the bottom the rest was cream.
If you get this hotel at a good price go, as the pool area is nice and the grounds are well tended and look good, as I said the staff are great as are the rooms. Only let down is the evening meals.
Please be aware in my opinion this is not 4 star, other hotels in the Elba group are way ahead.
