“Very nice Hotel but not 4*”
Reviewed October 28, 2011

Stayed at the Elba Carlota from 14th - 21st October 2011. Booked this Hotel because it was a first choice 4* premier. I would rate it at 3* plus
The hotel is very nice, rooms are ok but I did have a problem with ants in the room and in the bathroom.

We did not pay for a sea view room but I did request one on a high level floor and we were given one on floor 4. The view was lovely.

Had a problem with the air con. It didn't seem to want to work, so nights were too hot in the room.
I was told management turned the air con off at 11pm but I don't know if this was true or not.

Be careful if you put anything in the mini fridge because they charge you 1.50 euros for the use of it per day. This should be part of the all inclusive, you also have to pay for the safe.
All in all it was a nice hotel but poor service.

Food is very salty but you get used to it, (either that or they were putting less salt in the food after the first couple of days) what ever it was it was fine after day two, and the majority of the time we did enjoy it.
The service in the restaurant was very poor. Not what you would expect for 4*.

Pools are very nice and although one of them is apparently heated it is still far too cold.
Plenty of sun beds at any time of the day.

!0 - 15 minutes walk to the town. Look out for the Chipmunks if you walk via the beach there is a lot living near the Gerianos suite hotel. Very tame and will eat nuts or cucumber out of your hand.

The weather was warm but it was cloudy every day all except one when the sun came out at 11am.
This was my 1st visit to the canaries and I would not rush back.. There are far better places for an October break for the same money.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view on high floor

My husband and 2 teenage sons stayed here in october 2011 on an all-inclusive basis. Lovely hotel, clean and well kept. Plenty of sunbeds round the pool and plenty of choices of food at breakfast, lunch and dinner....We did do a few trips booked through Last Minute who were based in the shopping centre next door....they were excellent. We also go ont he local buses and went around ourselves which is very simple to do as the bus services is excellent. Baku waterpark is a must and so is the Oasis Park zoo. the hotel entertainment was a bit hit or miss but it is so nice just to sit in the warmth with a drink that it was enjoyable all the same. Would definately go back to this area and this hotel... Staff were all lovely especially Ernesto who worked in the Sinatra bar at night.....lovely holiday.....and fab weather.....

we booked and paid for the Elba Sara, arrived hungry and tired at 11am and told no rooms!, offered lunch but restaurant only had breakfast leftovers! we were then offered what they said was upgrade in Elba Carlotta, so arrived there and told room not ready!! when room was eventually ready at 3.30pm our sea view that we we had booked and paid for ended up being the rooftop of the supermarket next door with a view insultingly in the background of the hotel we should have been in!! so our first experience of the Elba Hotel Group was not at all impressive, and it ruined our first day of of our long awaited holiday, we would urge all travellers to be aware of the constant over booking policy and the chances of not being in the hotel of your choice is high. however despite all this the Carlotta is a lovely hotel, the staff were lovely, the restaurants were fantastic, entertainment bit poor but ok, rooms ok, shower head attachement hanging off and torn curtains which are not acceptable in 4 star really! and one of our rooms had no fridge, we had asked for one but it didn't come, pool areas fabulously clean, beds comfortable, arrecife bar was a pleasure to be at with the bar staff keeping it running smoothly. All in all the holiday was lovely but we didn't get the hotel we booked for and felt the situation was dealt with a couldn't care less attitude as it is quite normal for this to happen, those that complained loudly did get some sort of compensation in the way of trips, but myself, my two sisters and our 72 mother didn't get offered anything as we were probably too polite, a sort of british thing i think!!. oh and the Fidelity card didn't help at all so don't think worth the hassle of applying for one really.......

Room Tip: make sure you get what you paid/asked for

We have just returned from a lovely week's stay at the Elba Carlota. We were slightly unnerved by some of the negative reviews on Trip Advisor, however only have praise for the hotel and its staff.

Upon arrival we checked in swiftly. Our rooms were not ready however we really did not expect them to be since check out is 12 and we had arrived at 12.30! Armed with our AI bands we headed out to the pool area where we were able to refresh ourselves with a cool beer and some snacks.

The hotel is spotless, the staff are brilliant - they work so hard. Yes, we had to wait to be served at the bar, but does it matter? If we had been in a popular paid bar, we would have had to wait to be served... just because we do not have to part with our money over the bar does not mean the drinks should be "on tap". Personally, I found that if you smiled and waited patiently, the waiters soon noticed and would ensure they served you before serving the less impatient holidaymakers.

The food was lovely - cannot fault it. Our six year old son has many food allergies and we have to be particularly careful and he was able to eat a reasonably balanced diet whilst away - although trying to discuss his allergies with staff at the beginning of the holiday was hard and frustrating - even with a translation sheet.

We requested interconnecting rooms with a sea view - and this is what we received. Lovely view of pool area and sea.

Only down point: The beds are hard - REALLY hard!!

The pools are kept clean and spotless, there were plenty of sunbeds and plenty of shade - one review mentions no shade.... not sure where they stayed, we had to avoid the shade come the afternoon!

The beach outside the hotel is great - yes you have to pay for a sunbed etc - as the beach is not owned by the hotel, we would expect to.

Ensure you hire a car for a day and head up to Betancuria - on the way up, just before Betancuria, there is a cafe and view point on top of a mountain - absolutely worth a stop - breathtaking views! If visiting Betancuria, stop for lunch at Restaurante Casa Princess Arminda - absolutely wonderful Fuerteventurian tapas in a beautiful rustic setting.

The entertainment at the hotel was good - some nights superb! A real mix!

This hotel is most definitely geared around those with small children and the older generation. If you are travelling with teenagers, perhaps better to try somewhere closer to the centre of Caleta.

All in all, superb - well done to all at Elba Carlota.

Room Tip: Make your request and cross your fingers - we got what we asked for!

The hotel was nice and clean with fresh decor, comfy seating and open spaces. Food selection was very good and tasty, however if you eat beyond the first sitting you tend to find the remnants of the last guests dinner on the table cloth, placemat and floor. This said the staff did work very hard given the numbers. Make sure you have not only your all inclusive wrist band on but also your room card and the bit of cardboard it comes in otherwise you will be sent back to get it before being alowed into the restaurant. We enjoyed the comfy Arrecife pool bar for afternoon drinks and late afternoon buffet and the pool area was relaxing and well cared for with plenty of loungers. Large beers (Cruzcampo) were served in ice cold glasses from the fridge which was great. Pool towels 10 euro deposit and can be changed twice a week during a one hour window - we missed this both times – you get a laminated token the size of a stamp to do this – don’t lose it! Hotel grounds were pretty and the beach area beyond the hotel was lovely and clean. There is a privately owned bar jutting out into the ocean where we went for evening sunshine. The hotel is situated between the Elba Sara and the Sheraton. There is a shopping centre next door (Centro Commercial Atlantico) with a selection of boutique shops, an excursion company and also a Eurospar supermarket where you will get anything you have forgotten. There are also a few eateries including Burger King, Bocadillo, a cafe and Chinese restaurant. There is a McDonalds across the road beside the petrol station. Parking is free at the hotel and no shortage of spaces.

Rooms were modern decor and cleaned daily. Hairdryer, soap and shampoo in the bathroom. There are a few extra charges in this hotel. If you wish anything from the minibar you order in advance through a ticklist and hand into reception. It’s quite pricey. Use of the safe is 3 euros a day. The all inclusive facility lasts until 11pm – after this you need to pay at the bar. As part of the environmental policy the air conditioning gets switched off centrally about 11pm. Daytime temperature was a fabulous 28-32 degrees however this made for a very hot room at night. On a plus note there were no mosquitoes so we opened the balcony door overnight. Aeroplanes do pass fairly low overhead but this did not bother us and I quite enjoyed watching them approach.

The one thing that I did miss was a communal or bar area that you can sit in the sunshine past 6pm as I like to sit out and read in the evening. The only bar area after this time was in shade. Minor point really. We had a relaxing trip and it was good to be back on the island. Hotel is on a purpose built stretch with the other two hotels I mentioned. You can walk along the road/ pavement (about 1km) to Caleta de Fuste or along the promenade at the beach until this ends where you can then cut across the beach/ scrub area along sand paths. Only takes about 15 minutes. Caleta de Fuste had a good selection of shops, restaurants and bars but you won't find much of an authentic canarian feel here. Minigolf at Barcelo good fun. We enjoyed the harbour area for afternoon people watching.

We hired a car and found this a great way to see the island. Driving was very easy. The dunes at Correlejo were great as were the scenic drives to the south. We had some delicious meals away from the hotels and chains. We also went to Lanzarote for the day 140 euros ferry return for four plus car. Would recommend Timanfaya National Park and also Mirador del Rio. Weather was perfect.

We got back from the Elba Carlota a few days ago, after being at the Sara last year we thought this hotel looked impressive when looking around. We arrived at the hotel at 2pm and unfortunately our room wasn't ready until 4pm but we were told we could get some lunch and drinks etc so it wasn't a big problem. When we did get our room we had been upgraded to a sea view which was a bonus the room itself was spacious with plenty of storage for clothes etc. The pool area was lovely with pretty gardens and plenty of sun loungers we never had a problem getting sunbeds as they lock them up until 9am there were a few sad people sitting waiting for them to be released but was really unnecessary. The pools were nice and warm with a large Jacuzzi in the middle.
The nicest aspect of the hotel is the position right on a lovely sandy beach with calm waters. The walk into the small center was around 15 mins there is nothing very impressive there but it somewhere to mooch around.
We found the meals very good and the choice of drinks very good, the bar staff work incredibly hard and were very under staffed but they were still very friendly and done the best they could. The entertainment was pretty good with some professional acts and the day entertainment team also worked hard.
I would recommend this hotel if you want a good standard of accommodation and service and just want to chill out if you want a bit more of an adventure then this is not the place to go as there is not much to do in the area

Room Tip: ask for a pool view otherwise you may overlook the multi storey car park.

We started visiting the Elba Sara seven or eight years ago and watched the Elba Carlota being built since when we have visited twice a year on average. We do visit other resorts, such as Madeira, Sharm El Sheikh,Seefeld in Austria, but seem to always gravitate back to the Elba Carlota.
The recession has forced the management to react but they have done so in a way which does not reduce the value of the package.
We have a loyalty card which gets us a room upgrade when available but the staff are always most helpful and we have no real complaints.
We have a group booking for next June when our 3 daughters and their families are joining us, so there will be 14 of us including 6 grandchildren and we would not have undertaken such a booking unless we were confident that the management team were able and willing to cater for one or two special requests.
The food is very good, and so varied that if you don't like something then you just leave it and choose something else.
We love the place !!

Room Tip: Just ask if you are not happy and you will be moved if at all possible- also get a fidelity card !!
