“Ideal place to "chill out" in peace and quiet......”
Reviewed December 12, 2013

We were staying in this delightful resort in October this year, with very little to be critical about. The apartments are spacious, comfortable, and well equipped with excellent domestic staff. The gardens are absolutely stunning and lovingly maintained.
However, on our second week - we were given very short notice to move out to an inferior hotel on the main road (whereas Vera Beach is very close to the sea). The way this was done, we and other members felt, was really unprofessional. Even the staff seemed to be bewildered by the "sudden" closure. An email pushed under our door said the reason was because of flood damage, which is fair enough - but had we known this in advance, we would have booked elsewhere for the two weeks. We have been credited with points to have another holiday in 2014, so at least the company have admitted their error.
I can assure anyone considering this resort (when it has been restored to pristine again) - it is a great location.

As an Infiniti member i tried to book this resort a couple of weeks ago and was told by Customer Services that as it hadn't yet been renovated to the standard expected by Petchey they were not taking bookings. It seems from the other reviews that the resort is being occupied but perhaps the level of complaints has forced MGM to refuse requests for booking from Club members until they can offer the standard expected. The annoying thing is that it is still listed on the Petchey Leisure website with no warning whatsoever that it is not available. Customer Services offered us an alternative in Benalmadena which looks good, but it was significantly more points than Vera Beach Club. Petchey should consider offering the alternative at the same points value and paying the difference. This would certainly create a lot of goodwill instead of rancour amongst Club member trying to book the resort.

We were present during the floods in September last year and were determined to re visit to see progress. We arrived on Tues 8/10 to find that they had no booking despite my having a letter of confirmation for an infiniti room. Isobel, manageress, was most helpfull and found us an apartment but not of the same quality. We have normally used the half board facility but only breakfast was available in the restaurant and dinner in the souless pool bar. The food was dreadfull so we ate in local restaurants and made some great discoveries. We also found that theapartments damaged in the flood have been severley downgraded, much to the embarrassment of the demoralized staff who, like me seem to have little faith in the new company Petchey/MGM. They will shortly have many problems if the reaction of the guests staying at the resort are anything to go by. This was our favorite resort but it closed on 15th Oct and guests staying there were moved to a hotel in Garrucha without a choice. Some were threatening legal action! The resort itself has made a remarkable recovery from the floods due mainly to the wonderful staff but it is now encumbered by short sighted and downright poor management descisions. MGM if you are going to close a resort DON'T take bookings and then kick people out. Your members are your life blood and your starting to bleed;.Mike Holme Infinit member

We have just returned from Vera Beach Club after a 9 night stay there. The apartment was very nice, clean and had 2 balconies. The pool was also very nice and even has its own lifeguard.

I am very impressed as to how they managed to clean and repair the resort after the devastating floods last year (September 2012).

The health club centre, Dali restaurant and second pool were all closed and there was nothing going on in the evenings, which was disappointing for a beach club.

However the Wi-Fi internet was free after all which was a big plus.

The price I paid was for room only basis, you can have a nice English breakfast with coffee for 4.50 euros in a café nearby. Shops along one side if the street were closed and boarded up due to the damage caused by the floods - search YouTube for 'Floods in Vera Player 2012'.

Overall, a very nice quiet resort but lacking facilities possibly due to the on-going repairs to the site. I would have stayed longer if the room was cheaper.

Room Tip: Half of the apartments on the site have steep steps leading up to the rooms, so ask for an apartment...

Dear guest,
Thank you so much for your comments about Vera Beach Club resort. We have been really working hard, and still we do ( as well as rest of neighborhood) to have all facilities and area back as it was before the disaster of September last year. We hope to see you and your family back to our resort again, and then, be able to appreciate how things have been improved since last visit.
With Best Regards

As an Infiniti Points member I was very disappointed with this 'platignum' resort, especially as I had to use points from next year as I was told a 'cheaper' room was not available, even though it was obvious the complex was no where near full.
The restaurant only opens for breakfast and the pool bar serves lunch and evening meal, so most of our meals were purchased off site. The indoor pool was unusable and I can only assume the adjacent building site will one day provide the gymnasium, jacuzzi and sauna which are supposed to be on site!
The only 'games room' i could see was for the children's club although this is not stated on the Infiniti website so assumed this was for 'grown ups'.
Despite the lack of facilities the complex itself is kept clean and the gardens kept tidy and when we did have a maintenance problem it was quickly dealt with.

Room Tip: Definitely NOT a platignum resort!

We came here as 3 families and had read the reviews regarding the floods so was a bit cautious. All of our apartments were beautifully presented and extremely well equipped. As we had a first floor room we had the washing machine and oven mentioned by another review but I don't go on holiday to do the laundry so not having this wouldn't have been an issue. The pool bar serves good snack foods and the paella looked tasty although we didn't try it. The grounds are lovely although e lock and Key system was sometimes a pain as we only had 1 key between 4 of us and you need it to get out of the complex and into the pool. The area itself (what there is of it) has clearly suffered from the flood but there is a nice restaurant and some bars nearby and the beach Chirjnguitas serve great food. I liked the beach as did the kids, especially the waves. Go to the Vera market on a Saturday and the Garrucha night market is fun but Garrucha itself is disappointing. A definite must is a trip around the Cabo de Gata country park and Mojacar peublo.

We have just returned from The Vera Beach Club and this was our second visit in 3 years. We are members of what was Petchey Leisure's Club Infiniti and this is meant to be one of their prime resorts. Last time we were there we went half board and complained about the food - I would say that little has changed on this front apart from the pizza option and take away roast chickens being removed from the menu.

When we arrived, we were not sure what to expect this time because of the severe flooding last autumn that came right through this resort. We were, therefore, extremely impressed to see the gardens, exterior grounds and apartment exteriors had been put back to their original condition and the resort, on the outside, looked great.

Because we thought the one bed apartment that we had on our last visit was a little small, we treated ourselves and booked a two bed apartment for this holiday. At this resort, a two bed apartment is on two levels and is therefore a "little house". This was going to mean that we all had a bed for a change and nobody was going to have to take the sofa bed.

We checked in when we arrived and were given the keys to our house and so we unloaded our car and took our luggage round. We went upstairs first and looked at the two bedrooms and bathroom and were very pleased with what we saw. Then we went to explore downstairs. Here we found a second bathroom, with loo and shower - pleasing. A living room with table, chairs, sofa and tv. Then we looked into the kitchen and were just stunned - a number of units, sink, two electric hob rings, a microwave and a small fridge standing to one side. There was no oven, no washing machine and no dishwasher, all appliances that had been in the apartments prior to the flooding, all appliances that we were advised would be in the kitchen at time of booking were not there and nothing from Petchey/MGM to say otherwise. We had brought clothes for a week on the basis that we knew we would be able to wash out there and we also eat in quite a lot in the evenings as we know that the food on site is of poor quality and that there are not many restaurants in the immediate vicinity. It was not possible to cook a meal in this kitchen.

We went back to Reception to complain and we were advised that the new owners had instructed that the kitchens were to be put back in this format and this is how they would be in future. The Reception staff were very sympathetic and had received lots of complaints about these apartments. We were fortunate enough to be a small enough family to be moved to a one bed upstairs apartment that was not affected by the flooding and so still had all of the contracted facilities but we were back to using the sofa bed!

Over the next few days we found that the phones weren't working and were told by staff that they had no idea when these were going to be fixed - a more minor inconvenience really but you do have to walk to a reception whenever you want something and you cannot leave a landline number with family at home. There used to be an exceptionally good Kids Club at this resort and our daughter particularly liked this club - this too has gone and there is now no Kids Club. This resort is always advertised as having two restaurants but on both our visits, the smarter one has been closed, apart from for breakfast, so the only option on site is the pool bar. The evening entertainment, ie Flamenco Dancers etc, also appears to have been washed away.

I must stress that the staff at this resort were extremely helpful, whether they be Reception, bar staff or the ladies who clean the rooms. The grounds of the resort are lovely and the pool area is kept very well and there is never any trouble getting a sun bed.

However, if you are a family traveling and want full facilities, this resort no longer provides. I had the feeling that the new owners really don't care a great deal and would not be surprised to see Petchey/MGM no longer offering this resort to members soon. Other guests were also extremely angry and disappointed with the two bed apartments whilst we were there but we're unable to move as they were larger families.

Sadly, due to the way that these apartments have been significantly downgraded, we will not now be returning. I must also stress that my review of the facilities within the apartments is for Petchey/MGM apartments only. Your experience may be very different in a Private let.

Room Tip: Do not book Petchey/MGM two bed or one bed ground floor units, these have been dramatically downgrad...
