“Exceeded our expectations”
Reviewed January 17, 2010

We stayed at the Hotel le Morillon for 4 nights in early January. The room was lovely and clean, with a very comfortable bed. The quality of the food was excellent - we were very impressed with the evening meals which included foie gras, oysters, scallops and fantastic desserts. The location is very good, close enough to the cable car. The spa area was great and very clean - we enjoyed the heated outdoor pool, huge jacuzzi and efficient steam room at the end of each day - perfect after a day's ski-ing.

The only negative point was the lack of a door on the en-suite bathroom - very odd!

We stayed with my husband in this lovely hotel chalet - we had a great experience: the service was great, the food was perfect, the ski resort is a short walk from the hotel & the spa is very relaxing & cozy after a day of ski.
The indoor/outdoor heated pool surrounded by the snow & view of the mountains is amazing! perfect to chilled out after a mulled wine...
I will recommand this hotel & hopefully we will be back next year

I've stayed in Hotel Morillon for 4 years. Its a pleasant family hotel situated a short walk from the Morillon ski lifts which link into the large Grand Massif / Flaine ski area.
Breakfast is a copious continental buffet, dinner is served at the table and is good solid fare. 2 years ago the proprietor added a spa and pool to the hotel which is a welcome addition.
However during our stay the pool bleach system malfunctioned. Our swim suits instead of being blue became bleached grey and our skin itched like crazy. We were not the only people to experience skin problems after swimming. The manager did not seem bothered that his guests were swimming in concentrated bleach saying that he'd known there was a problem and would add a bit more water to the pool to see if that would help.
The room prices have risen sharply since the addition of the spa. To be honest the quality of the rooms do not reflect the price charged. Our 4 bed family room was an adequate size, but the bunk beds felt rickety, and the top bunk was very difficult to access due to an inconviently placed roof beam. Why is the ladder to the top bunk directly underneath the beam? It means you can't climb into bed unless you're a contortionist or extremely small. I had to lift my 10yr old daughter into bed because she couldn't pass under the small gap between the ladder and the beam. The bathroom was cramped and not appointed to a standard that I would expect for the price.
This hotel used to offer good value for money. I can put up with idiosyncratic beds and a small bathroom in need of a refit in return for a good price and a good location. However, paying a premium price for the same rooms with the addition of a poorly maintained pool means that, very sadly, we wont be returning.

Super location centre of Morillon 5 minute walk to Lift
excellent facilities for a small hotel inc Jacuzzi, Sauna et al
very comfortable room, adequate bathroom, very warm throughout hotel, cosy lounge, very friendly and helpful staff, good choice for breakfast. Would definitely stay again.
Only negative was noise from young children but that wasnt hotels fault.

We booked a week's half-board (ie dinner, bed and breakfast) through Peak Retreats for the Christmas week 2008.
The hotel is ideal for skiing, with a warm boot room and a separate skis room. Bedrooms are classic chalet style, with lots of clean pine wood and good quality mattresses, and toasty warm. There is a very elegant spa/sauna/steam room area for adults, and a separate indoor/outdoor swimming pool and a large jacuzzi which children can use with their parents.
The food is both plentiful and good, the dining room has a large family area and also a separate "piano room" which is quieter. The staff are really excellent, friendly and managed to balance a very mixed collection of guests, from families with small children, to groups, to couples like us.
There are two lounge rooms, one with the bar in it and one with a large and very efficient open fire. There is a collection of board games as well.
The brochure says "200m" to the lifts, which means 500 paces in ski boots.

We booked this hotel directly as we knew the skiing area was excellent fot mixed ability family groups. The hotel itself has excellent facilities including a wellness centre and pool which is a bonus for the price. The public areas of the hotel are charming and there was a good resteraunt serving a buffet breakfast and a five course evening meal. The hotel is popular with Belgium tourists and there is a pleasant family feel to the environment. The main problem for ourselves as a family with 3 children aged 13/11/8 was that we were allocated an appartment in the annexe which was charged at the same rate as rooms in the hotel but was not of the same standard. Particularly. it was located up 2 flights of exposed concrete spiral starircase which was untreated and a real acciden t hazard. My 11 year old son fell down these starirs and sustained a nasty cut to his back. The studio may just have enough room for small children but do not accept it for older families- disabled an absolute non starter!

The food at the hotel is good but with only one choice some guests will find the range limited. The serviceis excellent.

My only other concern is that the owner was very surly and unhelpful probably because I complained about the studio and had 2 of my family relocated to the hotel. He was very rude in response to a request a stop a leak in the bedroom radiator and seemed unfriendly towards English speaking guests. Also we noticed that the better quality recently rennovated hotel rooms over the resteraunt were occupied mainly if not exclusively by french speaking guests which does make one wonder!
We would still return but would insist on a better room in the hotel
