We were a group of four staying in two rooms just for one night as we had a wedding reception to attend in nearby Walpole. Simon the manager was very accommodating at short notice and even booked our Taxi on advance.

The rooms were a good size, both with en-suites. Decoration was a little dated and tired and probably overdue a make-over. Beds were really comfy and linen clean and crisp.

We didn't get back until midnight, and most of the pub goers had departed so we had a peaceful night's sleep!

Breakfast was excellent - the chap serving was really friendly and very accommodating... my only gripe was that baked beans were not on the menu... but considering breakfast was included with the room price you really can't complain.

Recommended!

Four of us stayed here at the start of our cycle tour of Suffolk. The staff could not have been more accommodating in helping us with our bikes. The rooms were very comfortable and breakfast was excellent. We didn't eat at the restaurant, but would certainly like to do so next time.

I was taken here for a weekend to celebrate my birthday recently. As we only booked a few days in advance in high season all hotels & B&Bs in Southwold were fully booked so my friend found The Angel in Halesworth about 8 miles inland. We arrived on Friday night just before 9pm and were still able to order food in the pub's Italian restaurant, and the food was very good (a great steak and a lovely pasta dish). Although we used The Angel mainly as a base for exploring the coast, we were very happy with it. Our room (number 1) was large and comfortable. Although it faced onto the main shopping street, because it was double glazed there was no problem with noise (and we were not bothered by noise from the other rooms or the pub downstairs either). The en-suite was large, with a great shower over the bath. We decided to eat at the restaurant again on the second night and ordered pizzas this time, which were not bad, The restaurant also serves fantastic Italian gelatos which are made locally. The breakfasts were very good and included in the room price. We drank in the bar on both nights too and it was a fun and friendly place serving a good selection of mainly Adnams ales, made in Southwold. There is ample parking for guests and the staff were friendly and welcoming. It was a pleasant and easy short drive to Southwold, where a visit to Adnams brewery and the Under the Pier show are highly recommended. I would definitely go back here!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 1 which was a large double with a big en-suite

I have stayed at the Angel and the rooms are cosy and very comfortable. I eat there at least twice a week and would recommend the vast range of Pizzas which can be made to your own specification. No soggy bottoms like some fast food places I've tried. Large range of fresh veg with all meals and various fresh soups made daily.

Friendly local staff who are always helpful.

I stayed at the Angel overnight on 13/14 July 2013 and was very impressed. It is swimming in old fashioned charm and the staff quite simply could not have been more helpful. I can confirm that the room (No. 6) was extremely pleasant. I did not eat at the hotel on the Saturday evening as I was out. I only had toast for Sunday morning breakfast so cannot comment fully on the breakfast menu but from what I could see of the main dining room, the courtyard bar and other communal areas it had very interesting décor which had been very tastefully selected and everywhere was extremely clean. Whilst I was there, a couple arrived with their pushbikes and the staff were very obliging in agreeing to store said bikes in a shed at the rear of the premises. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Apparently the hotel can be a little rowdy on a Saturday night so I recommend you to choose a room a...

We stayed here at the end of a cycle trip. They had a lock up where we could keep our bikes. Our room was very spacious, clean with all the extra bits. The bath was welcome after a hard days ride. We ate in the pizza restaurant in the pub that evening and it was delicious. (will do a separate review). Very comfortable bed. Delicious breakfast and friendly waitress. Would recommend!!

Have been here before but only lunchtime! visited the restaurant on a Saturday night early (6.30) The food was it usual high standard as was the excellent service and atmosphere in the restaurant.
BUT!!! Not having been here on an evening was shocked at the early evening rowdy noise from the bars. Spoilt the evening. Also other guests were bothered by the smoking yobs on the smokers seats outside by the side window. They were such a nuisance that a young couple had to sloe the blinds to stop idiots making silly faces all evening! management need to be aware of these problems that would prevent my self and guest from returning on an evening. Shame as it is such a good restaurant!

Room Tip: Restaurant Avoid saturday evenings!!
