This was a Sun holiday and I was a bit dubious as it was shown next to Bacton Gas terminals but the site was clean and well kept. Even our basic accomodation was plenty for out family of 5 and with a fab sea view. Of course excellent weather was a bonus, a hop skip and jump to the beach - which we had all to ourselves. Absolutely perfect for young families, great sand for sand castles, even caught a glimpse of a friendly seal. Play area on site was good and lots to see and do within 30 min drive if you don't want to spend all day at the beach. So glad we booked, really wished we could have stayed longer, definitely a future break for us.

We have been going to Castaways for over 12 years, first with our children then on our own, we have seen changes over the years, but the standards are still as good, which is probably why we go on average 4 times a year, the accommodation is always excellent, the owners Anna & Richard are extremely friendly, with helpful staff when they are not about (which is very rare) they are helpful with advice on what to do and where to go and always have time for a "chat" the beach is only gate way away from the holiday park and is also excellent and very clean, the bar is also a friendly place to be with some great artists..............this reminds me must book my next week away with "Castaways"

We have been going to Castaways for 10 years, at least twice a year. Both we & the dog think it's just perfect. Anna & Richard & the rest of the staff are so friendly, the caravan is always lovely & clean & within minutes of arriving I forget all the pressures of a stressful job - something to do with the beutiful views, fresh air, watching the sealife and miles of walking through beautiful countryside & along unspoilt beaches. Where else can you go & be the only ones on a perfect beach for miles - in fact, I think it's so lovely I almost don't want to write this as I just want to keep it all to ourselves!

Firstly to defend the park against the rubbish reviews given - if you have chosen to pay £9.50 for your holiday and have chosen to come anytime out of the 'sunny' season and have not paid to upgrade to a centrally heated, double glazed caravan (which are available), bearing in mind that the park is smack bang on the Cliff of a windy coast then of course there is a possibility that you are going to be cold! If you'd have asked you have happily been given extra blankets! There is a wide selection of caravans Lodges and apartments available in different price ranges, if you have only paid £9.50 and booked a standard van then don't expect a palace! If you have issues with heating, hot water, cleanliness or anything else then you should give the owner a chance to rectify the issue, before you whinge to the nation on this or any other website. if you are looking for an action packed 'haven' style holiday then this isn't the place for you.

As for the lack of things to do in the area the writers of these bad reviews clearly have no imagination! There is an abundance of local activities, all within twenty minutes ish drive, many of which are completely free and family and dog friendly - to name a few : bacton woods, Pigney woods, beach or cliff top walk to mundesley, mundesley beach, sherringham park, Wroxham barns, horsey wind pump, stow mill, hoveton hall, bewilderwood and many more.
One of the best beaches I have been to in the uk is at the bottom of the stairs from castaways, two second walk, and completely dog friendly, no stones, no rubbish, just flat beautiful sand and water warm enough and clean enough to swim in (in summer!).

There are plenty of amenities on site, shop, laundrette, dog friendly clubhouse and even more in Bacton village, Chinese, fish and chips, shop, hairdressers, breakfast cafe, all within walking distance. The owners are very helpful, polite and just generally nice. The staff around the campsite always say hello and are always working hard.

We have been here twice so far, 2011 & 2012, first year we stayed in an older more basic van and this year we stayed in a newer model. Both vans were perfectly adequate, we got exactly what we had paid for and had absolutely no issues. We brought three dogs with us and had plenty of space and everybody had a wonderful time. I can't think of anything to complain about, except maybe the tv signal and wifi signal but that's to be expected on a windy coast.

We have only visited out of school holidays and it has been lovely and quiet, completely peaceful. They do have a full programme of entertain on during the holidays though so if that's what you're looking for then the holidays are for you, if you're looking for peace and quiet then avoid the holidays. There is also an ample play park for younger kids.

There are several good pubs and restaurants in the region, I can highly recommend the lighthouse just outside Walcott, the butchers arms at east Ruston and the bluebell just outside north walsham. All three serve fantastic, good value for money food and are dog friendly inside and out. The lighthouse is award winning and during the holidays have a huge marquee in the garden with free kids entertainment in the evenings.
All in all I would definitely recommend this park and this region, especially to those looking for dog friendly holidays.

Room Tip: If you want luxury pay the extra and book a gold van, if you want value for money then trust the own...
