“Our perfect wedding”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 30, 2014 via mobile

We found this venue when looking for a small and intimate location for our wedding. On meeting Mary the owner and discussing our vision we were immediately at ease and just knew it was the place for us. Over the coming months nothing was too much trouble for Mary and all our questions and needs were fully catered for.
I could go on and on but needless to say we got exactly what we hoped and wished for. The food over the 3 days for our party of 30 was outstanding (my new wife is an ex chef) quirky accommodation left everyone speechless with the attention to detail flawless. Being a bit of a born organiser it was lovely to just turn up and leave everything to Mary and her team who couldn't do enough for us. The best way I can explain the ambience is like getting married in your own home without any of the hassle or worry.
A massive thanks to Mary and come see this place it's will blow you away.

Thank you for your lovely review, everyone had a great time at your wedding and the staff really enjoyed the lovely family atmosphere. What was so lovely was that the sun shone at the right moment making it such a special day.
Enjoy the rest of your lives together.

We stayed in the 'Master' bedroom and we found the bed to be very comfortable, and we had a very good nights sleep both nights. The breakfasts were very good, with a quite a wide choice of cooked breakfasts for a B&B. It was also nice that we could have breakfast as late as 9:30 - so often B&Bs have you up at the crack of dawn for breakfast and it was nice to get a bit of lie in.

Strand House is next to quite a busy road, but once inside I couldn't hear any traffic. Location wise, it was about a 15 minute walk from the train station, a five minute bus journey into Rye (although an infrequent service) and about the same in a taxi, which cost about £8 in the evening.

Overall, I was really impressed: all the staff were friendly and accommodating and the house was clean and tidy throughout. There's also a well-stocked honesty bar in the lounge, which was a nice touch. The only possible drawback with the Master bedroom, if you happen to be over 6 feet tall, is that you'd probably have a challenging time in the en suite shower as it's very pokey. Also mind your head on those beams! Strand House is certainly one of the better B&Bs I've experienced.

Thank you for your lovely review. It is really nice to see people travelling to the countryside by train and exploring the area by foot or public transport. We try and give you as much help as we can with this - with bus and train timetables, walking directions and can arrange cycle hire.

Hope you can visit again sometime and do let us know and we can give you a different room to try.

We booked two rooms and our one night stay was almost perfect. The positives for Strand House are: comfortable, clean, quiet, charming, friendly and helpful staff. The negatives for me in particular were the very small bathroom in our room, Inglenook, and the number of cushions, throws and knickknacks throughout the house - it's charming enough as it is and it felt over-styled.
Breakfast was plentiful and delicious, Mary made some special toast shapes for our two year old grandson which was very thoughtful.
Location is great for exploring the Rye and Winchelsea area.

Room Tip: Ask for room with a normal size bathroom if you are above average height/size.

We stayed at the Strand House over the May Bank Holiday weekend, we took over the main house with 17 of us in total. It was my father's 80th birthday and we planned a murder mystery. We had a fabulous weekend, all very well organised by Mary and Hugh, a treasure hunt during the day, tea and cake, champagne reception and then the murder mystery over dinner. Huge thanks have to go to Mary, Hugh and their staff for putting up with us at dinner, with all parties swapping seats regularly and disappearing outside on occasion they had a lot to put up with and I am amazed that they were as patient as they were! The house is beautiful, the location perfect, the house clean and tidy and great service. A very memorable weekend, with thanks to our hosts!

I wanted a few days of peace and quiet to explore the areas of Kent and Sussex. Mary put me in the Battle Room and it was lovely watching the rabbits and other wildlife through the large windows which lead onto the balcony. The 'sussex breakfast' was equally delicious and I would certainly return. It was an absolute pleasure staying there and very convenient.

Room Tip: Tell Mary a little bit about yourselves and she will find the perfect room for you.

My Wife and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary at the charming small hotel at Winchelsea with our 2 daughters and their families. We were all made very welcome from the outset and nothing was too much trouble for our friendly hosts. We all stayed in the medieval part of the house and found it wonderfully atmospheric - especially our Grandchildren! We were entertained to a champagne reception in the lounge followed by an absolutely first class meal. It really could not have been bettered. Very highly recommended!

Room Tip: Bear in mind the house is very old and to watch out for low beams!
