I have been staying regularly in Hitchin for the past 2 years have stayed in pretty much every hotel this beautiful town has to offer. With lots of choices, The Lord Lister Hotel is my number one. You are always guaranteed a warm welcome and nothing is too much trouble, it's like a home away from home for me. The rooms are clean and spacious with lots of little nice touches that make the stay even more pleasant. Breakfast is top notch and quick to arrive which is perfect for someone like me who's always running late in the mornings. There's a quaint little bar on the ground floor where you can relax with a paper or chat to the owners....do this, they are wonderful people with great stories. Overall this is a great hotel in a great location made even better by the owners.

Lol very strange on arrival phoned my office up at 8.30 pm to demand payment for my digs even though I explained they would settle the tab in the morning I could go on but its late on arrival mirrors were positioned in such a way where from entering hotel you were spotted all the way upstairs very wierd indeed

This hotel has family written all over it. If you are not satisfied here you have a problem with engagement. It is within easy reach of Heathrow and Luton and
Standstet. The family have been in this game forever and know the ropes of a satisfying BnB. Do yourself a favor Hitchin has a lot to offer , recently features in the Tv show Doctor Foster with Suranne Jones

Booked in advance for a friends birthday in town, parked in the car park at rear, was greeted very politely and helpfully by a young lady called Vicenza, who explained a few things about the hotel, the room (14) was actually just fine for the price £75 with breakfast compared to the priory which was the same money and the room and service there was very disappointing, granted the Lord Lister could do with a brighten up, a splash of paint but its the right price for what you get. Hey and they can put a cot in your room and the Priory cant FACT.
im sure the breakfast is fine but our bed was comfortable and our son slept in too, so we didn't get up in time.
To make it clear this a GOOD average marked hotel. in the words of my late grandad they did the best they could with the tools had.

Good location near the town centre. But this is one of those hotels that feels like it hasn't seen a new carpet, new beds, furniture or a lick of paint since the 80's. Needs gutting back to the walls and modernising. Wifi worked. The breakfast was floating in a pool of tomato beans sauce. Please put it in a separate ramekin or something as hotels and cafes in London have been doing for 20 years.

Dear faktoader,

Thank you for your review and feedback. I'm sorry you feel your stay was not satisfactory.

The Hotel is a grade II listed building so have tried to keep the period feel of the hotel with the furnishings and decor. I'm sorry this was not what you expected. The rooms are regularly decorated and painted often, just as are the beds.

With regards to the breakfast and the baked beans, I will pass on feedback to the chef and we will look into serving in a separate ramekin.

Regards,
Josie Raviele
