Owner description: A museum of the history of education set in a complex of historic classrooms and schools buildings. With four historic classrooms, the delightful Headmaster's House, displays, exhibitions, cafe and shop, this really is the place where learning comes to life. Please check website before visiting for up to date visiting times and special events.

I visited this museum on a whim with a friend- a brilliant decision. The staff are friendly and welcoming- even coming to collect us before the tour started. The tour includes a visit to an old school building and a trip to the headmaster's house. It is fascinating to hear about early schools and our tour guide was very knowledgable. There is a small cafe with homemade cakes on site. Great day out for all ages.

Took my daughter and my two grandchildren to see this museum. It is like the tardis. Narrow frontage belies the extensive complex inside. Great guided tour plus a visit to the Headmaster's house were highlights. Very friendly welcome and very helpful and knowledgeable guides.
Lots to show and discuss, although I had to remind my granddaughters that I was not old to have a Victorian education,
There is also a cafe and a handling part of the museum which the kids loved.
A good day out all round

This is a rare find - several generations of school provision on the same site. A visit here is not to be missed if you are in any way interested in education. Your visit will also help to maintain the place so is doubly worthwhile.

Education went through various phases of development which are all here to see including the rarest treasure of all ... visit and find out for yourself.

The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable too. Remember to ask about Jill Gray whose collection was so valuable for the site. Great for school visits too.

This was a fascinating visit, quite unlike anything I have been to before. It is an early Victorian school, run by staff in period dress, giving children (and adults!) a taste of what schooling was like 175 or so years ago. The huge monitorial schoolroom, together with the other classrooms and headmaster's house make for a most unusual and worthwhile experience.

If you have 2/3 hours spare and want to turn the clock back a few decades this is a good place to start. Reminded me of my school years and some very knowledgeable staff around to answer any questions, you can even get a good old fashioned cuppa. Great place so come to Hitchin and look it up, not far from St Mary's church and that's another place to visit.
