“Unspoilt gem”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

Spent a day travelling around the valley, what a beautiful area, pine forests, lakes, dams beautiful scenery and totally unspoilt. The beauty of this drive is that because there is hardly anyone else on the road you can drive at a leisurely pace and really take n the beauty of this area of Wales. Would defiantly visit the area again, lots of beautiful walks and cycle tracks to explore.

Family of four visited élan valley today, what breath taking views, weather boiling , unusual for this country. Plenty of people around all relaxing enjoying the scenery and weather. Somewhere to visit time and time again. Visitors centre had all you needed and cafe served good food.

“Wonderful views, wheelchair trails & cake!”
Reviewed July 12, 2013

Spent the day at the Elan Valley Estate. Well worth the trip we thought. The Visitor Centre has good facilities, with a café stocked with sumptuous choice of cake to go with the tea/coffee which you can enjoy on the banks of the river below the dam. Beautiful patio area. The centre loans out bikes and promotes the trail which runs all the way from Rhayader, past the centre and up to the dams of the lakes. Also available are the hand cycle and side by side cycle for the less abled bodied to hire, these chairs/bikes are easy to use and very comfortable - give it a go. The trail can be accessed from different points along the trail but be aware that the best surface and facilities are nearer the centre with the path being tarmac there where as the path surface past Garreg Ddu Reservoir being made of compressed gravel. There is also a lack of bench's and we found that any carer's pushing a wheelchair or less able people walking along the trail with sticks may find the distance between seating difficult to manage. That said, go prepared with a fold up seat and some shelter from what will either be blinding sunshine or rain and something to drink and you'll be guaranteed to really enjoy your day, as much as we did. The views are outstanding and the paths just hum with insect life, its amazing.

Utilised a trip to West wales to travel through the Elan Valley. Had coffee at the Visitor Centre and drove through glorious scenery to the western. Many stop off points and car parks. Lovely scenery on a beautiful day
