“A warm welcome on a wet day!”
Reviewed November 3, 2013

We arrived on a wet and windy Friday tired and cold from a long drive through bad weather! We were welcomed and given the 'run down' for dinner, breakfast etc. We booked a standard double, it was lovely! Very clean, spacious with everything you could need! With possibly the best and most powerful shower either me or my husband has every had!
After looking at both bar and restaurant menus we decided on the bar menu. Both menus had a really good vegetarian selection with the restaurant having as much vegetarian choice as meaty options which made my husband very happy! The food both at dinner and breakfast was really really good quality and value I can heartily recommend the Monmouth pudding! At breakfast we were offered hen's or duck eggs any way we liked as part of the cooked breakfast.
Sadly we were only there for one night but we both think it's on our return list!
Thank you Elan Valley Hotel we look forward to seeing you again soon!

As per other reviews, I was pleased the hotel and particularly the staff lived up to the hype. Pleasant comfortable hotel at a reasonable price for the hotel quality and location. All areas were very clean and well maintained and gave us the close access to the dam areas as we were hoping for. The breakfasts were excellent, in particular the poached duck eggs, high quality sausages and bacon. Bar meals were well priced, well prepared and filling. However what sets this hotel apart was the staff. All were helpful in every aspect of the stay, form booking in, help with directions, adaptations on meals and generally making my son and I feel really welcome. I would recommend this hotel without exception

We stopped here for Sunday lunch on the way back from a weekend in Rhayader. The food was superb and very reasonable. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, particularly the lovely lady who sells beautiful handmade jewellery Would definitely consider staying here if we visit the area again. Highly recommended!

Just had 2 nights at the Elan Valley and only wish we could have stayed longer. We'd had an awful experience with a hotel in Battle a couple of weeks earlier and the difference here could not have been more pronounced. A welcoming reception, very friendly and helpful staff - they even found a set of darts for our 12 year old son while we enjoyed a drink in the cosy bar. The food was fantastic, well cooked and presented with a childrens menu available. We were here primarily for Kite watching, walking and cycling in the surrounding hills, all of which makes this hotel a superb choice for these activities. It is on a main cycle path and the Elan Valley Visitors centre is just down the road with cycle hire, maps etc and a very good cafe.
Our room (4) was clean and tidy, the bathroom was a bit small but not uncomfortably so, it overlooked the car park and road and I had reservations about possible traffic noise but it was so quiet we were able to sleep with the window open with only the occasional Owl hoot to disturb the peace! Will definitely stay here again, hopefully for longer next time!

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Elan Valley Hotel where we have had a wonderful visit. The friendly and attentive staff combined with excellent food and clean room means this will be a visit again soon.

Nice to have a pleasant experience in a Hotel with friendly helpful staff.

We enjoyed cycling and walking in the nearby Elan Valley a short distance from the Hotel which again was a bonus.

Stayed here twice in a week during a 5 day cycling holiday. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and they had gone out of their way to make sure there were plenty of vegan options on the restaurant menus, including several desserts. Also had great packed lunch on the final day.

We camped across the road at Elan Oaks and spent 2 evenings in the bar. The food was WONDERFUL, homemade faggots to die for, the chef, Dai, friendly and professional. All the staff were fantastic and we really enjoyed ourselves, for an extremely reasonable price. Only 5 mins walk from the campsite.
