“High Quality and Pet Friendly”
Reviewed July 2, 2012

Pet friendly lovely little hotel reasonably close to Dover and convenient for overnight before an early crossing. Good quality rooms and excellent breakfast - evening meal a little limited but staff and service very good and attentive. Would certainly stop here again

We booked an executive double room for 129 pounds a night. For that price the room was very small, especially the bathroom and qualitatively did not reach up to its standard. Our double bed was very instable and you didn't even want to move while lying in it. The service was very poor. While checking in we asked if breakfast could be made for us 15 min. earlier on the next morning because we had to catch our ferry. But we were told that this was not possible. In addition to that you would expect full English breakfast for that price, but it was only continental. Cooked breakfast would have cost additionally, which is very uncommon across Enland.

To sum it up we will not be staying again in this hotel because you get much cheaper B&Bs in Dover and St. Margarets at Cliff, which are so lovely and friendly.

We think there must have been a communication breakdown here. We are around from 7am every day and if ever our guests would like an earlier breakfast then we can offer a continental breakfast to take away. If our guests do not want to take breakfast then we offer a discount to reflect this (We're in touch with this reviewer and arranging a refund for the missed breakfast). Our room rates include a complimentary Continental breakfast, this is advertised on our website, brochures, tariffs, email confirmations, room information folders, check-in forms and menus. Many of our guests stay whilst on their way travelling to the continent or on business and many only wish to have a breakfast from our extensive 'All you can eat' Continental Breakfast Buffet which includes tea, coffee, hot chocolate, a choice of fresh fruit juices, fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals, croissants, toast, cold meats and cheeses. There is a choice of cooked breakfast from Eggs Benedict to Kippers and our Full English Breakfast is freshly prepared from locally sourced produce of the highest quality, a cooked breakfast is available from as little as £2.50 extra. We are a little different to 'other run of the mill' hotels that charge for a Full English regardless of whether you have it or not and we'll continue to work on improving our breakfast offering and have recently been awarded a Breakfast Award from Visit England. With regard to room rates, we would love to be able to compete on a level playing field with hotel rates in Germany and much of the rest of Europe. Along with many other British hotels we are campaigning for a reduction in VAT from the current 20% to the rate paid in hotels in Germany of just 6%. Our rates are less than those of our closest 3 star hotel competitor (their normal room rates do not include breakfast of any kind) and on a par with our Bed and Breakfast neighbours in our village (who incidentally do not have to pay VAT). With regard to room sizes, being a 16th Century building the rooms are all of differing sizes ranging from 20 msq to 36 msq. We've taken a look at the unstable bed issue and resolved this problem by replacing the bed. We take all feedback very seriously and love the challenge to improve our service and facilities for our many happy returning guests. We always urge our guests to inform us at the time if there is a shortfall in their expectations and then we have the opportunity to fix things there and then. Thanks for listening...

I stayed at the hotel with a few friends recently and I have to say that it was a very nice experience.

It has the warm friendly feel of a small family hotel but with the professionalism of a larger establishment. The mix is perfect.

Warm welcome, friendly service, nice room and excellent breakfast.

A real gem.

We stayed here the night before our cruise and enjoyed it. We left our car there for the duration. Much nicer and quieter than the hotels in Dover The rooms are fine but not luxurious. We chose a superior room as the standard rooms are basic. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was excellent. The food was very good. We will definitely stay there again before we cruise.

Room Tip: Choose a superior room.

This hotel was great for a stopover to other parts of the south coast. A little overpriced for the accommodation and then added extras for breakfast. The first night we did have dinner and this could not be faulted, excellent. Good location for a village pub crawl. Does take dogs.

Like many others I suspect we prefaced our day trip to Calais with a night at this hotel. We stayed in the excellent family apartment which was clean and freshly painted. The rooms were comfortable enough though sharing 1 bathroom between 4 brings its inevitable problems. We dined in the excellent restaurant which despite having a small menu delivered good food and service. Our only slight disappointment was finding that the inclusive breakfast was only a buffet rather than the anticipated full english - I missed my snorkies!

Room Tip: Excellent service

My husband and I stayed here this weekend for a friend's wedding in Salton Manor, East Langdon. We were arriving late Thursday night and as reception would be closed the receptionist called me at about 6pm that night to give instructions on how to get in, find the room, breakfast times etc, this was extremely helpful. We were also given a complimentary upgrade from the Mews to the four poster room. This room was lovely, spacious and lots of features in the room, beams etc, and lots of storage for clothes, suitcases etc. The bathroom was a good size too, with a bath. My only negative is the shower is a little low and the height couldn't be adjusted. My husband and I aren't tall tall so it didn't really matter but there was copious amounts of hot water to make up for it! The whole room was spotlessly clean too. The next morning, we had a lovely continental buffet breakfast, a great selection of things to choose from - I was pleased you had the Dorset cereals! Reception kindly booked a taxi for us and friends of ours, who were staying the Friday night, to the wedding. The next morning at breakfast the men were feeling the effects of the night before and staff were very friendly and attentive, one brought a jug of iced water to the table, thank you! It must have been obvious they were suffering! :-)
All four of us had a great stay which topped off a fantastic weekend. We would definitely recommend to friends and if we're in the area again we'll be back. Thank you!
