Reviewed July 5, 2011

The 3 of us had an evening meal in the Porthole Restaurant on Saturday 4th June with a window seat while visiting the hotel. We where staying at the nearby Bushmills Inn hotel and decided to try a different locale nearby. The food was not disappointing with shrimp and home made soup for the appetisers followed by 2 locally caught fish dishes and steak for the entre complimented by a wonderful Chablis wine from the wine list as recommended by the wine waiter Michael whilst we waited in the lounge. We ended the night with an extra bottle. Wonderful scenery and sunset where a bonus.

Room Tip: a window table in the restaurant

Having been in & around portballintrae for most of my life it was something of a novelty to go and check in to a hotel there. However I'm glad I did. With too much strife on the job front I really enjoyed the quick drive from Belfast and may as well have been a million miles away. Hotel itself is very warm and friendly as well as being quite modern looking. Room I stayed in was absolutely huge and could have fitted a small army battalion in bunks! Included most of the items you have come to expect. Wifi signal extended to room. View out of rear window however not brilliant as looking over carpark and housing development. Also no real way to control the temperature in your room and at some points was a bit uncomfortably hot for me, but this was a minor niggle. Food when stayed was very nice and in huge portions. Guinness pump was in working order bearing in mind the huge variations in quality you find in this particular drink depending on the maintenance of the pump, its a good litmus test. Hotel was also very quiet and serene. Located in beautiful and central location close to all major tourist areas either by walking or car (causeway, bushmills etc). Was also given free tickets to tour the whiskey distillery. You also get cards telling you the weather, and as I generally don't like to be bothered by staff I was glad they kept unintrusive.
Would stay again gladly.

We had a table of 8 in the restaurant with friends during the Saturday night of the NW200 week-end. The restaurant was extremely busy, but the quality of the food was very good, we had 4 bottles of wine as recommended by Michael who opened and poured the wine for us. I think a lot of people where surprised by this being in a 3 star hotel property, but the service was excellent.

Room Tip: Book early the restaurant and get sea view rooms

We stayed here over the NW200 weekend in May and found our stay very enjoyable. The highlight of the hotel is the great food and service. It was a very busy weekend but we were easily accomodated and all the food was fantastic. The breakfast was a real highlight, with a full menu rather than a buffet service.
We had a room at the back end of the hotel which was unfortunate as I hear there are great sea views from the front - so I would recommend asking for this before arrival. The room was clean and spacious and the only other slight minus was the bed cloth. There were woolly blankets on the bed, which we both found quite itchy, and could be updated to more modern covers.
Overall an excellent stay, and I would stay here again.

Thank-you so much for your kind remarks about your experience at Bayview. North West 200 week is always very busy and the Team is delighted that you enjoyed your stay. Your comment about the bed cloth is being addressed, as we are presently up-dating all of our rooms with new duvets and luxury throws, we hope to have all completed by early Autumn. Again very many thanks, we all hope to see you again soon at Bayview,

This hotel is situated on a low cliff over the Port Ballintrae beach. The rooms are large and comfortable. The rooms on the front have really memorable views. We have stayed here maybe 6 times.

The breakfasts are very good and the evening meals are OK although not really displaying the range of local specialist foods that are available. The restaurant seems to be very crowded at night, particularly at weekends

The staff are very polite and helpful.

The only downside is that the overall room and breakfast charge is a little pricey. Its difficult to get a room under £150 per night. Its not really worth that price but the views and breakfasts soften the impact of the price tag.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view.

Dear DPALTON, Thank-you so much for your kind comments about your experience at Bayview, I have passed your comments to all of our team and they are delighted!. We do try to keep our prices as competitive as possible especially during these harsh economic times, however we have had to pass the extra charge of VAT due to the increase by Government earlier this year! This increase has impacted on everything, especially heating and electricity costs which have also risen dramatically in the past year, by some 35% due to Government Taxes and greedy Oil Barrons! We do some very special bargains throughout the year and indeed our latest offer for September 2011 is £119.00 pps for 2 nights bed and breakfast and includes 1 evening meal per person. Once again thank-you for your kind comments and we look forward to welcoming you back to Bayview in the near future, Kind Regards, Trevor and the Team @ Bayview

The location of the hotel is why we stayed here one night, as we were going up to the Giant's Causeway, which is all of 10 minutes drive from the hotel. Service, rooms were grand! Parking was a bit tight, but there was room for us thankfully! Meal in the adjacent restaurant in the evening was ok.

What can I say - a excellent hotel which is a credit to all who work there! Staff who are interested in their customers needs, Food which was excellent (even thought they were extremely busy). Modern big family room with a view I dreamed about all winter! The Bayview has managed to package it all. We definitely will return again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view.
