We stayed at Ballaghmore Cottages for a week in August with my 2 year old daughter. The location of the cottages is perfect. A 5-10 minute walk to Portballintrae beach which is perfect for little ones to either build sand castles, throw pebbles in the sea or rock pool depending on their age, and a 5 minute walk the other direction takes you to the Giants Causeway railway. Bushmills is close by (you probably need a car) and we did all of our food shopping here in the local butchers and grocery stores.
The layout of the house is an "upside down" house so the living room is on the first floor which takes advantage of the beautiful views out over the countryside. The open plan living, kitchen, dining area is perfect for this type of holiday and is well equipped with everything you would expect to find. A real bonus for us was the stair gate, high chair and travel cot, plus the mountains of kids DVD's and videos. There were 3 bedrooms downstairs and 2 bathrooms (one en-suite). The 3rd bedroom (with the bunk beds) is a bit on the small side - more like a cleverly converted storage area, however, it does the job. The other 2 bedrooms are tastefully decorated, modern and have very comfortable beds. There is a small communal garden area out the back which has a seating area and BBQ. Again, the owners have provided all sorts of equipment for outdoors - fishing rods, tennis rackets, beach balls etc.
The owners were very helpful in giving me advice on good places to eat, places to take my daughter and even arranged for birthday balloons and banners to be put up before we arrived to celebrate my husband’s birthday.
All in all a great week and we will be back to this beautiful stretch of coast.
