Four of us drove here for afternoon tea, as my sister had recommended it. It was a very warm afternoon when we turned up at this posh hotel, and there was a cry of 'isn't this a bit too posh?'. Not to be deterred, we walked boldly through the doors into a lovely cool interior. The pleasant receptionist pointed the way to the bar where we ordered afternoon tea, which cost £36 for the four of us. As it was such a nice day we decided to sit outside, even though the restaurant was very inviting with its crisp white linen and panoramic views. We had a large choice of teas which came with extra hot water, so plenty of tea between us. The food was fantastic, sandwiches of ham, egg, beef and smoked salmon. Followed by light as light Victoria sandwich, filled with the most delicious jam and whipped cream, shortbread, lemon tart, fruit cookie and of course a scone with that delicious jam and cream (all home made). We were in heaven, but were stuffed as we didn't want to leave any of the deliciousness behind. The views are fantastic and a walk around the grounds was a lovely way to end our afternoon of indulgence.

We stayed here to celebrate my Mums 80th and the staff, service and location couldn't have been better. The waiting staff were brilliant in the way they treated us and very hard-working and attentive.
The range of things to do for the children were great. From the tennis and swimming to the croquet and bowls. We didn't have to move from the hotel to have a good family time.
The receptionists were really friendly and so good when I was arranging the details of my Mum's 80th. My Mum will never forget her time here.
The only thing you could improve was the quality of the coffee from the bar. I love Latte's and they were not good...otherwise....perfect! Thank you so much.

Room Tip: We had a range of rooms and they all had a lovely view. The ones without seaviews had more room....s...

My daughter's wedding reception was held at this hotel. The venue is stunning and the photographs out of this world. The food was excellent, the chef and kitchen staff very helpful. Only down side - despite having written confirmation, they hadn't reserved a room for the groom for the night before the wedding. Fortunately the hotel was not fully booked so the error could be rectified. Also, one of the senior members of staff, (Ben?) was really rather rude in his dealings with staff members.

I mention this because few others seem to do so.

My review of the hotel itself is below. However, first if you stay here note that at the foot of the cliff is a colony of grey seals. If you stroll along the battlements of an evening (or any other time in daylight) take a binocular and spot the seals in the bay below. If you are able then follow the path down to the headland or even the shore and you can not only see them but hear them.

Fabulous.

Be warned, it is not an easy descent, or indeed an easy ascent, with some friable shales.

The blue lias outcrops at the shore and erodes but is much less visited than further north along the bay.

The hotel is lovely. Perhaps showing a slightly faded glory. The food was excellent when we visited and the staff also were really excellent, The grounds are magical, you can wander the various garden rooms that are perfect for relaxation, reflection or romance. Then again, you can play putting, tennis, croquet or even the 9-hole golf course.

Our rooms were very clean and well kept. One of the beds was close to the end of its useful life. Everywhere seemed quite warm, so the rooms were just bearable for sleeping but any warmer would have been too hot.

Overall, Fantastic

Superb location on a cliff top overlooking Robin Hood's Bay. On the Cleveland Way. Friendly helpful staff. Delicious locally-sourced food. The rooms are in the process of being renovated but even the rooms which haven't been touched are spacious and well-stocked with little luxuries. Very clean. Well-kept gardens where you can play croquet or tennis. A delight!

What a place! You honestly wouldn't expect such a lovely hotel to be found right at the end of tiny winding roads in what feels like the middle of nowhere! We didn't chose this hotel ourselves as we were going away with a group and were totally surprised by the breathtaking views, beautiful room and stunning food!

We had a lovely large bedroom that had views over the beautiful gardens and Robin Hood's Bay. The room furnishings were modern, with a kingsize bed, plenty of storage and (ladies) a proper full size hairdryer! The bathroom let the room down, which was a shame as it was pokey and needed refurbishment, but hey, you don't spend much time in there and the room with the view totally made up for it.

The staff were amazingly friendly and professional, especially the restaurant staff, who were always cheerful and seemed very service focused. The food was amazing! We had three course meals every night...we couldn't resist! Breakfasts were buffet style with a good selection of fruit, yoghurt, croissants, bacon, eggs etc. but in addition to that, there were other items you could order off the menu, porridge etc. The restaurant also overlooks the bay, so makes for a delightful backdrop to a lovely meal!

We didn't use the pool, golf etc. facilities, but did explore the grounds and they're well worth a walk - beautiful and restful with the sounds of the waves in the bay.

We'd honestly recommend this hotel to anyone, although people with lots of luggage, or who are unable to walk far, be aware that the car park is a little walk from the building itself and there was a no entry sign on the road leading to the front door, so I don't know if you'd be able to drive up to unload, then go and park. As we only stayed for a couple of evenings it didn't really matter to us, but as the ground between the car park and the hotel is also a little uneven, I thought I'd mention it.

If you decide to stay there I'm sure you won't be disappointed - enjoy!

Last visited here nearly 30 years ago and loved it. It is generally still as remembered. The view cannot be faulted (though a bit grim when we had low cloud), the grounds great for relaxing and exploring. The room was comfortable, but let down being a bit tired and needing some TLC. However it was clean and the bathroom at least had been refurbished. The high point is most definitely the restaurant, the food was great, the choice more than adequate and the best waiters I have met for a long time. While the hotel looks a little jaded in places this is only a minor comment as I would rather have that than glitter, glass and stainless steel everywhere. It really is worth a visit.

Room Tip: 3rd floor reached by lift to second floor - don't be put off they were the coolest. Very few roo...
