I had a conference at Surrey University in the summer and looked at the best hotel in Guildford through TripAdvisor.
Booked a big room at the Hillside sister hotel for the four of us (spouse and two children, aged 7) by phone.
Staff was very friendly and helpful and, upon arrival, they did their best to make us feel at home. Actually, I would describe staff service as personalized to each customer, as they will make it a point to treat you as a person, and not as a mere customer, asking you about your preferences for breakfast, helping you arrange trips, inquiring about your day, and nice things like that.
The room was very clean and spacious, and the food was great. The hotel has a small garden with a fish pond, and is situated in very quiet and clean surroundings. There are woods around, so it's great if you want to take a stroll in nature and enjoy some nice fresh air.
Highly recommended!

We stayed at the Hillside last week whilst visiting our daughter at university in Guildford. The room was lovely, looking out onto a beautiful colourful garden with a large Koi carp pond, with complimentary toiletries, water and chocolate giving it a personal touch. We dined one evening in the restaurant which had a real emphasis on using organic produce. The fillet steak was one of the best I have tasted in years, and sourced from a local butchers.

Overall an excellent stay and we will definitely return when we visit our daughter in the future.

I have been a guest at Hillside on and off for a few years, and still look forward to returning. As a business traveller I am not looking for a lively evening (but that is available in nearby Guildford), but a warm welcome, very comfortable accommodation, and food of the highest quality.
Most fellow guests appreciate the same, which haelps the friendly atmosphers, as do the staff who are excellent

We discovered Asperion Hillside over two years ago when looking for a suitable base to visit our son who's at Uni in Guildford.
After previously experiencing the lacklustre and surprisingly expensive offerings of Travelodge / Premier Lodge, Asperion Hillside was quite literally a breath of fresh air.
What caught our eye first on the website was the sustainable ethos of the Hotel, a major point of difference at such a competitive price, They provide ethically sourced, organic and as it turned out absolutely delicious meals. On closer inspection that ethos runs right through the whole offering from the complimentary water (and chocolate !!) in the rooms to the excellent wines and beers in the honesty bar (even down to the bed linen and cleaning materials we've since discovered). These things are important to us but even if they weren't it means everthing is of a very high quality.
The location is rural, but literally only 15 minutes out of town on the Worplesdon road and the private parking on the forecourt is a huge benefit (have you tried parking in Guildford !)

But what really hits you on first impression is what a wonderfully tranquil location Hillside has with a calm garden complete with fish pond overlooked by the restaurant. The spotlessly clean rooms are beautiful with immaculate tradional/modern decor combined with the most up to date features - like freewi fi broadband if you should need it, and flat screen TV.
The ensuite bathrooms have great showers and are also stocked with organic toiletries and the beds are more comfortable than ours at home making for a very restful stay indeed.
The all important breakfast menu is superb; the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon to die for ! Dinner is pre bookable and again offers a very high quality menu , wonderfully cooked.

The Honesty bar I mentioned earlier is an unusual feature in a hotel but works so well. When you return late from a night out or just arrive after a late check in, it's great to be able to relax with a drink in the lovely lounge. Again, the bar choice is superb.
The staff are very friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble and combined with the wonderfully comfortable surroundings and tasteful decor have truly made Hillside a home from home for us on our frequent trips to Guildford.

Overall value for money is amazing, it's rare indeed to get this quality at this price, almost unheard of for a sustainable (organic) offering.

I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough, although I was tempted to keep it a secret to ensure we're always sure of a room or suite ! Seriously, it is a real gem and quite unique.

I stayed one night at the Hillside Hotel in Room 2, a so called: "Deluxe King Suite", room rate was slighter lower than the one shown on the website, since I traveled alone.

The hotel unfortunately does not offer online booking; you'll have to call them or send an e-mail. At the time of my stay, the hotel was bookes out.

Staff was extremely friendly and helpful and yet at the same time efficient: both check-in and check-out were done quickly.

The room was beautiful! Nicely decorated, wonderful choice of colours and excellent high-quality furniture. Bed was nice and big, some would judge it a bit firm: though I liked it. You will also enjoy complimentary chocolate and water in the rooms. High-Speed WiFi is free.

Bathroom was same as the room: nicely decorated, good bath products, more than enough high quality towels.

The hotel's restaurant is excellent too: Very reasonably priced: you'll get a great cuisine in a lovely surrounding. Same for breakfast!

All in all the only complaints I have about this hotel are some cleaning issues: indeed my shower was not cleaned, some of my towels had stains on, glasses in my room were not replaced; you could tell they were used before and at breakfast cups were not clean neither. Though really nothing to make a big deal about.

All in a all a lovely little hotel I would stay anytime again.
