For the second part of our stay, we wanted to be in the central part of the island with easy access to the beach (Mero beach is walkable), and Mango totally fit the bill. This part of the island is a bit more arid than jungle-like, so the salt water infinity pool, situated at the top of a hill overlooking the Caribbean sea, is a really nice perk. There are only 3-4 rooms, each designed in a cheerfully elegant modern decor utilizing local eco-conscious materials. All water is heated by solar panels. And included in each room is an older cell phone for guests to use, which really came in handy for making local calls and getting around. The French owners, Stéphane & Karine have spent years lovingly crafting the landscaping throughout the property and it shows.

The restaurant is creatively, yet tastefully, designed with three different themed sections, one of which includes swinging chairs, and all of which have breathtaking views of the Caribbean. Stéphane & Karine seem to do most of the cooking, with our favorites being the crepes for breakfast, the cumin & paprika encrusted tuna for dinner and the pineapple cake for dessert. The breakfast menu is set with 5-6 items, and the dinner menu changes based on the availability of local ingredients and the various catches of the day. You need to make your dinner selection by 2pm, choosing from a board posted with that day’s menu. John and Jocie, feeling daring, split a lion fish one night, which lead to some entertaining stories of Stéphane’s colorful diving run-ins with the poisonous fish.

Stéphane is an excellent resource for diving info and good hiking trails, and we really enjoyed our time at Mango with him, Karine, and their sweet daughter.

We very much enjoyed Mango Island.
We usually stay in Condos, but we were very comfortable here.
The views and the property landscaping were phenomenal. The staff from top to bottom were helpful very accommodating and over the top nice.
The lodge is true to what they present in their description and pictures, I can not say that for many of the other hotels we had looked at.
Any activities you would like to do can be arranged if needed.
Very comfortable, quiet and beatiful views in all directions.

We stayed at the mango for a week over Christmas and it exceeded our expectations by far. Our kids aged 7 and 10 loved it as much as we adults did. Everything about it was even better than we had hoped for; the magnificent views, the breeze, the pool, the restaurant, the roomy and airy bungalows and the extremely dedicated and genuine owners Stephane and Karen with their fabulous staff. I was also very impressed with the way the owners were engaged in the local community and as a traveller one could really sense that this is a well run business and that sustainability is important to the owners which make them very well regarded among local people as well. We hope to come back one day!

We rented two of the four charming cottages at Mango Island Lodges at the beginning of January. Stephane and Karen have built this little slice of paradise over the last five to six years and live there with their adorable three year old daughter. The cottages are well appointed, clean and comfortable. Stephane and Karen go out of their way to make sure guests have everything they need and fully enjoy their stay. They offer a wide variety of excellent and reasonably-priced meals in their restaurant; a must in the evenings when sunset is at 6pm and the climb to the hotel is fairly harrowing. It is well worth the effort, though, as the views of the Caribbean are outstanding and we got to watch the sun set over the sea and their infinity pool each night. They are located on the west coast near the middle of the country, just below Mero beach. You can get to anywhere else on the island in under and hour and a half from this location and Mero beach was one of our favorite beaches. It's larger than most, with plenty of food options, bathrooms and showers.

Karine and Stephane were great hosts, very welcoming and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Their place is new and has the most amazing location if you like sunsets. It sits just right up on the hill and offers 180 degrees view of the area. And yes the pool is fab. Dining/ chilling area has 3 different themes and it especially nice to enjoy dinner and drink there after sunset. We really liked our room, it was clean, spacious and decorated in azure blue. Breakfasts were so tasty and varied, we also had a delicious dinner on a couple of nights, fish on one night and coconut chicken on the other night. Mero beach was within short reach. If you go there have meal and drink in Romance Cafe. I would also recommend a car. Karine and Stephen can assist with the car rental if you don't already have one when you arrive. We drove to Portsmouth in under an hour and it takes about 30 minutes to drive to Roseau from here. There are many places to explore and it's nice to have flexibility. We had a great stay and would recommend it to others.
