“The Absolute Best Wedding We Could Have Imagined!”

Summary: if you're considering a wedding here, absolutely do it, and absolutely hire Julie as your wedding planner!

Longer version:
We planned our wedding from Canada and travelled with 35 guests to il Borgia and monteluce for three nights. Some highlights:
-Julie helped us plan literally everything for the wedding, from menus to flowers to chairs etc etc etc. She's incredibly attentive, enthusiastic, and a delight to work with. She also performed our symbolic ceremony, which was everything we hoped it could be. I continue to receive compliments about the food, locale, service to this day.
-Julie also helped us organize buses to and from Rome to carry everyone, rehearsal dinner food delivery to monteluce, a rental car to be delivered to the castle, and a beautiful Tuscany wine tour on the third day for all guests with our own bus. It was absolutely incredible to have such catered service. My husband and I have travelled the world extensively, and we're very impressed with the level of service provided.
-the castle itself is the stuff of dreams. It is a genuine relic, and should be respected as such. There are all of the modern amenities, and this history and character of the location will absolutely leave you speechless. Even driving up the long tree lined lane is fabulous.

If you're looking for the kind of wedding where your guests leave in awe and talk about it for years to come, this is your place. I felt like a true princess and will forever treasure our memories at il Borgia.

“Great Location, Fun but not luxurious”

This is a real castle that is several hundred years old but placed in its current form in the 1800's. It was purchased by the current owners in the 1930s and significantly modified over the years. All bedrooms are very large and comfortable. The 1st floor bedrooms all have their own bathrooms which appear to have been updated to late '50 to early '60s style. Other than the one main floor bathroom, all of the other bathrooms are very modern. As an added bonus, everything works and there is plenty of hot water.

Keep in mind that this is a castle, not a modern mansion. Most of the floors are concrete and stone as are the four flights of stairs. Several of the bedrooms have hardwood floors.
Despite the photos that show everything to be light and airy, the castle is quite dark esp after 6pm. The lights in most rooms are delayed--that is it can take up to 5 minutes for them to reach full brightness. This can result in a potential accident hazard as there are
several steps between the main floor rooms and in the kitchen that can easily be missed.
One of our party tripped but fortunately was not injuried. I have worked with the manager who stated they will take care to improve the step visibility.

The castle is comfortable and seemed to maintain a suitable constant temperature regardless of outside conditions. We only chose to use the bedroom heater on two of our 10 nights. The main sitting room/saloon is delightful for getting your group together after a full day. The swimming pool is magnificent and would do any hotel proud so anyone renting in the summer will have another excellent group venue.

The kitchen is perhaps the biggest drawback. Its stone floors, despite being cleaned daily by the maid, look like they have 100 years of grime ground into them. The appliances, while all work, seem to be 1950-60 versions. Formica countertops. The cabinets are non-existent but consist of shelves covered by sliding curtains. A complete replacement with period compatible but modern cabinets would go a long way to bring the kitchen up to the standards of the rest of the castle.

The owners are delightful people and live close by. The manager, Julie, is great. There is a cleaning woman who comes 6 days a week. An excellent chef is available for your more formal dinners. WiFi is very good on main floor.

The location is perfect for visiting Sienna and Florence (1 1/2 to 2 hrs away) and Perugia and Assisi are close by. There are also interesting hill towns surrounding the large lake Trasimeno. Be sure to visit Castigliano del Lago. Fun restaurants nearby.
