Slow Life Umbria - Relais de charme
Reviewed September 15, 2013

Forced to find a hotel in Umbria at short notice we picked Slow Life Umbria for its location and design aesthetic, without somehow realising (despite its name!) that there would be no wifi, TV etc. and that we'd be be miles off road. Our alarm dissipated immediately with Bruno and Carol's welcome, and we wholeheartedly enjoyed the experience. We were the only guests for 3 nights and had the luxury of Bruno's excellent cooking to ourselves, with menus designed to our tastes. He uses simple but absolutely delicious local ingredients and we ended up pinching at least one of his family recipes. The breakfasts are fabulous and so big you don't need to eat lunch. The swimming pool is huge and retains the sun until late, which was much appreciated after days exploring the area. Bruno recommended that we visit Spello and Cortona in addition to the more well-known local destinations of Assisi, Perugia and Orvieto, and both were well worth visiting.

This hotel is DEFINITELY something special. The week I was staying here was by all means exceptional. Slow life only has 12 rooms, (all of which doubles) so you really get to kenow the those who run it, which adds a very special felling to it. breakfast is served from 7 to 9. Each morning you indulge in granola whole fat yogurt fruit bread scrambled eggs and locally sourced Umbrian jam. Then I recommend going on day trips to nearby towns Cortona and Perugia are my favorites.

Room Tip: Every room at slow life is wonderful

A magic place, without traffic, phones, Internet, in the middle of the woods, with the smell of Rosmarin and Lavendel, and - in particular - with two charming owners who slow you down to the nice path of life. Nothing appears to be urgent, nothing is more important than your "inner" voice, and nothing is more relevant than the present moment. This type of slow life widely opens your minds and you recreate wonderfully.
It was a great please to be there and to enjoy the hospitality.

We have just spent a fantastic week on holiday with Carol, Bruno and family at Slow Life in Umbria. Slow Life surpassed all of our expectations and was a wonderful location to remove oneself from daily work routines and get back to nature in the Umbrian countryside. Slow Life is family run and we were very much made to feel a part of the family - Carol and Bruno were incredibly accommodating to our needs and very helpful, adapting menus to our child and also for a gluten free diet. The organic menus are sourced locally every day with organic wines also provided. Breakfast on the terrace, surrounded by rosemary and lavender, with stunning views was a joy every morning.

Slow Life is "removed" and sits in the middle of a small valley, about 3 Km from the nearest road, but it is also well situated for visiting the historic towns in the area and allows for good wine tasting, olive oil tasting etc. Lake Trasimeno is about 20 minutes away which is stunning and also provides a holiday centre with watersports, walking, horse riding. The area provides a stunning walking location, but in July and August you should be prepared for very warm temperatures, so the respite of Slow Life's secluded and shaded infinity pool was very welcome!

We will definitely return to Slow Life and would highly recommend this wonderful retreat.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Green Suite which remained very cool on days that reached 35-40oC. There is space...

..the whole world smiles with you. -Mr. Armstrong was obviously related to la familia Ascuri. It's been a couple of years since we first discovered this little gem just West of Perugia, and refreshing to learn it has lost none of it's charm. The wonderful garden has obviously grown, as has the family truffle hunter / house jester Zack (but fortunately not grown up).
What remains the same however is the truly genuine welcome from owners Bruno and Carol, ably supported by the rest of the family. The place is still spotlessly clean with no sign of wear or tear - testament to both the quality of the initial construction and the way it has been cared for. Collazione e cena are both still consistently excellent, although Bruno's portions are a little on the generous side. You probably won't need pranzo in between, but ask him nicely then I'm sure he'd oblige.
Only downside was the insect bites, but this mainly down to our lack of preparation; After all this is the height of summer in the heart of the Italian countryside.

Looking forward to coming back to the Pack.....

Splendid location in a tranquil setting yet within easy driving distance of the highlights of Tuscany and Umbria. Beautifully redecorated 18th century farm with stylish rooms. However, the real reason you can't afford to miss Slow Life Umbria is the hospitality of the hosts: wonderful people and exceptional cooking!

We had a more than excellent stay and enjoyed every minute of SLOWLIFE and its owners Bruno and Carol . From the many trips done in the past this one hits beyond any doubt the TOP 3 through the beauty of the region but also the exceptional hospitality and the "always ready to help" attitude from the owners and their kids - Perfect customer intimacy and exactly what you may expect when recovering from hectic stressy lifes .
SLOWLIFE in itself is a "jewel" with the years of energy and love put into it shining daily over the domain.
SLOWLIFE is also very well positioned if one wants to combine relaxing with visiting some pittoresk villages in the neighbourhood (Perugia , Todi , Folignio , Assisi , Cortona , Transimeno lake , ... all at close distances ). We even went "horse riding" ( LUCA manege) with the kids accompanied by Carol - one of the many unforgettable moments of our stay .
For those prefering to stay on the SLOWLIFE territory no worries as Bruno stands ready every day to serve a menu with purity and great regional products . WE WILL RETURN TO THIS FANTASTIC PLACE .

Room Tip: All the rooms we have seen are very comfortable and well designed
