“Fantastic hotel and wedding reception!”
Reviewed September 15, 2009

We stayed at The Santo Miramare Resort from 18th August to 1st September for our Wedding which we had on the 28th August. We travelled with Thomas Cook and used their wedding co-ordinator Reebie.

When we got to the hotel and our room we were really pleased at the standard. We booked a Junior Suite which had a side sea view but wasn't as good as i would have liked, unfortunately the Junior Suites aren't that well placed. However it was a lovely room, had a lounge area, kitchenette and the bathroom was quite modern.
The reception was lovely and the man behind reception gave us a leaflet of trips (which were more expensive than elsewhere in Perissa) then we were taken to our rooms by a very friendly Porter.
Staff in general were very friendly and always said hello. Violetta who works at the pool bar is particularly good and is always smiling.

The pool and bar area are very nice. The pool is huge and there are plenty of sunbeds but it never felt like there were too many people there. There is also a smaller pool and then a childrens pool as well as a jacuzzi :-)

We never went to the restaurant but heard it was quite good value for money for eat as much as you like buffet 15 euros. The resort (Perivolos) itself was a bit strange, there were music bars playing loud dance music during the afternoon but then after your evening meal at night they were dead. So if you want somewhere to party at night Perissa (25 minute walk) has some karaoke bars and nightclubs/bars. There are some good restaurants nearby on the front; Meteora and The Best where the food is good and not too expensive.

We travelled with 27 guests altogether over the two weeks for our wedding in our second week. When we got onto our transfer we were handed a scroll tied up with ribbon with an appointment to see our wedding co-ordinator the next day. When we met her she told us what day and time our wedding was going to be and gave us a booklet about the wedding and extras you could book. You could find these slightly cheaper elsewhere but to save giving money to people who you cant guarantee will give a good service i thought best to go with Thomas Cook then i had someone to blame in the UK if it all went wrong. The flowers i were given which were part of my wedding package were lovely, a big bunch of orange and cream roses.

I had already been in contact with the Manager Dimitris about organising our reception as i was worried about having to find somewhere when we got there. So we met with him when we arrived and told him what food and drink we wanted and how we wanted the tables to be set out and he set to at organising it. We got married at The Santo Winery overlooking the Caldera which was stunning then we had a few glasses of wine and went back to the hotel. DImitris had set the area up with coloured organza round the top table to match BM dresses, bride and groom sign at our seats and tea light holders on the tables. The food was fantastic and everybody was full nearly after the starter. They were coming round with wine all the way through the meal. As a gift he had given us a bottle of sparkling wine and a huge cake which was yummy and we had a little ceremony which Greeks do where we cut the cake in a cross and fed eachother then crossed arms and drank the wine. Afterwards we had the speeches and had drinks at the bar.

The next day we had a huge breakfast in bed even though we were slightly hungover :-s Then enjoyed the rest of our holiday driving round the island. Fira is fantastic and im hoping to book for a week next year for our first anniversary.

I would definately recommend this hotel it was of a good standard, the staff were very helpful and friendly and they did a brilliant job of organising our wedding reception.

We have just returned from our weeks honeymoon and absolutely loved this hotel! It was spotless. Pools fantastic! Best around. Staff extremely helpful and friendly - especially the Polish girl in the poolside bar! Had upgraded to junior suite which was very spacious with nice terrace but outlook not great as apparently all junior suites are situated on the ground floor so no sea or pool view but was nice and quiet. Only downside would be hard beds!

We didn't book as package deal so hired a car to get us to and from the airport and to do some sightseeing, although we didn't use it much. Had relaxing week by the pool mostly. Variation of age groups, although not many young ones and very very few children, probably due to being September. Lots of couples.

Hotel was just across the road from the beach which had private sunbeds and parasols and waiter service. Beach was ok, but black volcanic sand so very hot. Not being beach lovers we stayed around the pool.

Our board was bed & breakfast and buffet breakfast was superb. Everything you can think of was available with waiters and waitresses serving coffee and clearing plates constantly - great!

Evening meal was available for 15 euro's each, which again was buffet style and very good although very similar every night but tended to eat out in local resort most of the time. Lots of great restaurants around in Perissa which was about 20 to 30 mins walk away.

Shopping trip to Thira is a must! Superb cobbled streets with great shops but not cheap! But then again, Santorini itself is not cheap. In local bar for example we had a can of John Smiths bitter and a milkshake which came to 12 euro's!

There seems to be a lot of development happening, with many unfinished hotels/villas being built which probably happens when the season ends, at end October. No fish and chip shops, irish bars or night clubs which in our opinion was great. Wouldn't really recommend for teenagers as wouldn't be too much to do. Lots of restaurants and music bars though.

Would we go again? Definately!
Would we stay at the Santo Miramare again? Definately!
Although it would be in some years to come as there is so much of the world to see.

My husband and I just returned from our honeymoon and stayed at this hotel for 5 nights. Upon our arrival at 3pm our room was not ready (check in is at 1 o'clock). We were initially given a room with two seperate beds facing the street (upon booking our trip in MARCH, we requested ONE bed and a pool/sea view). After speaking to the unfriendly staff at the front desk, we were able to switch rooms, and received one with a view and two beds pushed together to make one. The car rented through the hotel was overpriced compared to what we could have rented in Fira. Soaps, and other toiletries that are usually complimentary were not replinished at all during our stay. Decor is dated. A simple breakfast with unhelpful staff. Very small space for breakfast. Beach, pools and nearby boardwalk were beautiful and provided a wide variety of reasonably priced places to eat lunch and dinner. This was our last leg of our honeymoon. My husband and I stayed in three other 4 star hotels on other Greek islands and feel Santo Miramare did not compare.

If you want beach in Santorini this is a great fit. Clean well maintained rooms. Very nice breakfast. Staff was friendly. Lots of Tavernas next to the hotel to choose from. We liked drinks at Lucky Kelly's! Ask for Costa and a half and half (Mythos and GUINNESS). We called it a Black Myth. Only draw back with our stay was transportation and tours arranged with outside contractors through the hotel. Not the hotels fault but I would suggest booking these things somewhere else. Hopefully you will have better luck. This hotel is great for families and a quiet peaceful vacation.

We arrived at 7am and since the hotel had been fully booked the night before our room was not ready yet, which was understandable. There was no problem going for breakfast though. The lady at the reception was keen to get us an upstairs room (don't go for ground floor ones, they look incredibly dark as they're a few steps down from the actual ground level) with twin beds, which meant we had to wait until midday. From then on the reception service level deteriorated rapidly. None of the receptionists seemed very interested in answering tourist related questions or simply didn't know the answer. One guy even said that because he is from Athens he didn't know the island and therefore couldn't help us!
When asking about local buses we were told that the time table is near the entrance door. But were not told that there are also other buses we could pick up a little further down the road and which run more frequently (an other hotel guest standing next to me at reception pointed that out!).
I think the staff is simply used to guests on a package holiday which don't explore the island on their own.

By the way, if you want to go on day trips, don't book through the hotel. Just walk into one of the several agencies in Perissa, you'll find it's around EUR10 a head cheaper there and exactly the same program!

The day before we left I asked at the restaurant if it was possible to take some bread, cheese and butter up to the room fridge as we had to leave at 6am. The waiters were incredibly difficult about it saying guests are not allowed to take food from the restaurant up to the rooms. I pointed out that we couldn't have breakfast the following morning as we would leave before they opened up. I suggested they call the hotel manager at reception to ask for permission which they refused to do. I had to go there myself!

The guy who did the check out was incredibly grump and didn't seem to understand why I was checking if the bill was correct. He wasn't very forthcoming when it came to splitting the bill between two credit cards either.

Having said all of that, if you're after a sea side holiday with the occasional day trip this could be just your kind of hotel. Nice property, good enough rooms and lovely pools. I liked the mix of different nationalities staying there. The restaurant staff (apart from above mentioned incident) was very friendly.

The sea is nice and clean although a little fresh. The sand, because it is black, gets very hot as the day goes on.

If I would visit Santorini again, I would stay in Fira. Even though you're not directly by the sea, there are plenty of lovely hotels with pools and the view from the Caldera is just unbeatable!
