First, let me set the stage by explaining that I am a travel photojournalist writing primarily for North American audiences. My wife and I were booked for a week here but we left after 5 days due to the conditions we found. Not that the resort was completely horrendous; there were redeeming factors, such as the marvelous restaurant and laid-back atmosphere, but overall the facilities are not as described and visitors would be well advised of that.

First, the advertised free Wifi ranged from abysmal to non-existent. People were crowded in various spots throughout our stay trying in vain to get spotty internet and grumbling about the connectivity all the while. The management admitted they had trouble with it constantly. Neither Macs nor PCs would work.

Despite the fact that some of their literature claims that off-site laundry facilities are available, once we arrived (after driving through Italy for a week) we were told that there were no facilities in the resort, nor any on the island. We had to wash our clothes by hand. In their defense, clothes dry quickly in the sunshine and mild breezes.

Most shocking to us was the fact that you cannot drink the water in the resort (see photo below of non-potable water sign). Are you kidding me? Nowhere was this mentioned in the literature we researched.

The TV does not work; well, it "works" but the static is impossible and there is no access to English-speaking cable news channels.

The rental units have no dishwasher, no paper towels, no kitchen towels, no dish detergent, and only one pot lid for all three pots provided (it only fit one pot).

No one on the desk staff spoke English well enough to communicate accurately. I am not faulting this, it is Italy after all, but you should know this before you book.

There are very few electrical outlets so make sure to bring a gang plug.

Having properly dashed this resort, I'll be quick to add that the restaurant is wonderful (see photos), serving freshly prepared local cuisine at reasonable prices. We dined there twice, in both cases paying about 35 Euros for two entrees, with one glass of wine and bottled water. Service was excellent. The restaurant is managed separately by Rosa Venuti, who is just terrific.

Villaggio is perfectly located, just a tad outside town, but a short walk or bike ride to the central piazza and the picturesque waterfront. You can bike all over this tiny island and it is laced with history on every turn.

We stayed in this resort as a couple with a 3 year old kid in September 2012 and absolutely loved it!

Notice to travelers looking for a quiet and romantic place - this is NOT the right hotel for you, there will be loads of kids + animators + loud music during the day, so pay attention and don't complain afterwards :)

This hotel was in a great location, 10 min walk to town and the shops. The suite we had was very cute, clean and had a kitchen with everything we needed to cook daily.Bikes and moped can be rented directly at the reception in order to reach the beaches.

We had a view of the amazing pool too and the bedroom was facing the quite side so we could sleep well. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating as well, everything we asked for was provided for. The lifeguard at the pool was very attentive and professional, looked very well after our kid! Great and relaxing stay overall.

We will definitely consider coming back here next year.

Hotel is only a block from the square, spacious rooms, clean, friendly service, and great price. Only somewhat annoying thing is you must wear a swim cap in the pool. We will definitely be back in the future.

We stayed for five nights at the end of September. We booked through the internet and paid 65 euros per night and then found that we could probably have got it cheaper on the hotel web site.

On arrival we walked from the ferry up through the town, about 10 minutes and had a very friendly check in at 12.30. We had expected a room but we got a well equipped one bed apartment with a balcony. We had a view of the hill fort with sun set every evening from the balcony and a view back to Sicily from the bedroom. Our apartment was cleaned and provided with clean towels every day, very impressive, especially for self catering. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We didn't eat at the hotel but when the pool closed at 13.00 it was very pleasant to have lunch on our balcony, we could appreciate the peacefulness of Favignana.

We walked to the Lido Burrone to swim some days and caught the bus for other calas. There is a stop quite close to the hotel. It is an easy walk down to the town to eat or visit the cafes or best of all get a massive gelato. Our only regret is that we didn't realise we could have hired a tandem, we only saw them on the last day.

When we left we had a late check out and walked back to the ferry. A good holiday and a great hotel.

We stayed one night, arrivedat night and found it a little difficult to navigate our way to the hotel. Rooms were nice and quiet (despite the amount of people around). Lively atmosphere around the resort, we enjoyed a few drinks at the bar which played music. Fairly close to the town centre (with some great Gelato shops if you so desire after dinner).
