This was the greatest overnight stay we have ever experienced - so peaceful and relaxing. The warmth, friendliness & hospitality of Sue & Murray was overwhelming. So close to city life - yet a million miles away - we found this idyllic homestay. Murray has a wealth of knowledge of the area, and explained the workings of his farm during the farm tour. Sue's is an absolute whiz in the kitchen and her food tasted "Divine". Our rose-petalled heated bath [under the stars] exceeded our wildest fantasies!!!!! The bedroom had a beautiful restful décor - the bed was like heaven, causing a long 'sleep-in' - and a late breakfast. The spectacular garden enhanced the character and ambience of their home. One of the most memorable & unique moments in our 70 years of living. Thank you, Sue & Murray.

My husband and I stayed for 5 days at this magnificent farm stay! We only wishbone could have been longer! Murray and Sue were so incredibly warm and friendly, making our stay a memory we will cherish forever.
There was even a very unexpected and heartbreaking event in their family during our stay. Though we we offered to go someplace else to help ease the burden, they wished us to stay and cared for us like we were family even in their pain----words can't express this kind of hospitality and kindness of heart.
All of that along with the amazing food, incredibly beautiful surroundings, and an authentic taste of New Zealand!! What more could we ask for?!
Murray and Sue, you hold a special place in our hearts and we WILL be back!! We suggest to anyone going this direction---stay at Paua Bay!

We stayed for two nights and enjoyed very much the peace and quiet there. Our room and bathroom was probably the prettiest and most unforgottable during our NZ holiday. Sue and Murray were really friendly, easy-going hosts and we had great conversations with them. We didn't see the farm that much but they gave us many good travel tips.

We highly recommend this experience for both overseas visitors and us kiwi 'townies'. And foget about the really old reviews. Whatever happened over 4 years ago seems just sour grapes.
Although we only travelled from Christchurch, it seemed like we were almost in a different country. The Paua Bay farm is not difficult to find and like most remote locations, has a few Kms of winding unsealed roads that add to the sense of being a long way from town.
Sue and Murray are consumate hosts and kept us warm, very well fed and entertained. I had some work stuff to review and while I was doing that, Murray took my partner for a trip over to the far side of the farm to move a few sheep and do a few other tasks. She loved it.
We didn't do any shearing or serious farm stuff, we just snuggled up warm, chatted and enjoyed the warmth of the Johns household. We did manage a long walk through the paddocks almost down to the sea and really enjoyed the solitude.
All in all, a wonderful stay and one we would recommend to anyone wanting to experience the best of rural New Zealand with warm and freindly hosts and without having to travel hundreds of miles to get there. Thanks again to Sue and Murray.

Will always cherish the time spent on the sheep farm with The Johns. Murray and Sue share their lifestyle with the world.
What an opportunity to get to know what life as a NZ farmer is really like. My husband headed off to help with farm chores while I had 2 cups of Sues coffee and spent the day by the garden. The farm tours were all go,so got to join in with the sheep shearing and working dog exhibition. Meals at the family kitchen table are generous and farm grown. You never know how many sets of legs will join in at mealtime. Friends, guests and family all show up for Sues good cooking.
My favorite time is very late at night. The house has finally settled down for the night. The clear nights by the Pacific Ocean allow the Milky Way Galaxy to look like a rainbow of stars. The heavens are aglow like I have never seen anywhere. Naked eye star gazing is AWESOME. We will return to this little piece of heaven. Thanks for having us, betsy

We spent our last two nights in NZ at Paua Farmstay and couldn't have been more impressed with the family, room, food , farm tour, gardens and scenery. A hike towards the ocean among the sheep felt like being in a movie. We have taken all that we felt and learned here back home.
Thank you Murray , Sue and Lisa!
