“Worth the Money”
Reviewed November 1, 2008

Absolutley loved it and already planning on returning.

Went with hubby to celebrate our 15th anniversary(left the kids at home). The resort is big, but still comfortable. I was a little worried about the food from reading some of the other reviews, but I can assure you the food was better than average. We were never disappointed or bored with the cuisine. The Steakhose (Rodizzio) was an experience as well as a meal. (you must go hungry and like Meat) They bring 6 different meats (all succulent) to your table on a big sword and cut pieces off for you. The buffets had a different theme every evening so always different and on Thursday it is Mexican Fiesta night with Marachi bands etc.

The beach was huge and never had problem getting a chair, The beach vendors were friendly, not aggressive and had plenty of activites. The Vendors also have a hut right on the beach you can shop at, but I do recommend going to the market in PV or Bucerias just for the adventure.

There were Iguanas and Gehkos on the premises, which make it interesting and they also do a feeding with them on Wed, which include free pictures with some huge (5-^ft) Iguanas.

The evening shows were fabulous, not chessy at all. Very, very talanted dancers. (the performers were not the staff that you seen all day at the resort, there only job was to reherse and perform)

Staff was always friendly (Mexicans know how what Customer Service is all about, it puts the rest of us to shame).

Many activites on site. They always seem to keep the kids entertained. The had a craft table that you could paint ceramics and they would fire it for you to pick up the next day (They do touch ups for you in the evening so when you pick it up the next morning, you absolutley amazed.(great confidence booster for kids). My husband I spent 4 hours here and brought home an amazing plate and mask that is a great keep sake as it has special meaning in that we contributed to its design.

The rooms were all slightly different depending on what block you were in. We stayed in block 4 which is very central to everything. Very basic room, no clocks, but really you just shower and sleep there so what do you need. The air conditioner worked well. Block 1 is on the beach, which is where we had hope to be, however, after talking with guest that were in Block 1 who stated it was hard to sleep as the crashing waves were very loud. Block 5 is in the adult section which has newer rooms however, you a farther from the bach and block 6 is even further still. I would recommend you try and get in , 2 3 or 4 if possible.

I really don't have anything negative to say abouth the place. I really don't know where some of the others are coming from or what they were expecting but I found this resort to be a solid 4 star.

This was our first stay at the Decameron...but it won't be our last! Went there not knowing what to expect, and was not disapointed at all.Staff very friendly always, food good, clean rooms....We can't say enough good things about this place.....but can say it was very relaxing, and our trip to Bucerias flea market was really fun.Very nice town,Bucerias, with plenty to see and find.Of course a trip into Puerto vallarta is always in order, and we thoroughly enjoyed that too.All in all a great trip(our 5th to Mexico).would recomend the Decameron, and we are looking forward to our next stay in May!

We have been before and that is why we choose to go again, but probably never go back even though we loved the staff and the resort and amenities. The problem being the locals coming in herds, families of 5 -8, the children scream all day and all night, not relaxing at all, we had to ask to change rooms as there does not seem to respect after 11:00 pm. Fights during the wee hours outside your door, kids running around screaming and the adults butting in front of you daily at the bars and buffets. The area is beautiful but the atomsphere has really changed since we were there last year. The staff was accomodating when asked to change rooms and they were very courteous but as for the guests, we felt out of place like we werent welcome there and we were interfering. One problem that was quite annoying was the games they played and some of the entertainment was always in Spanish, so you could not join in any games as you could not understand what they were saying, a little disappointing for my son who tried to play games. From reading reviews from other places, it sounds like this happens elsewhere also, not sure if I want to go back to Mexico even though we love the climate as too crowded! Even the pools were usually jammed packed with screaming kids while the parents just sat around and ignored them! The few travellers we met there said the same thing, while the cost was most reasonable, it would have been nice to have a little more relaxation.

I stayed at Royal Decameron with my boyfriend for 4 days. We both are buffet great lovers and we have never stayed before in an all-inclusive hotel, so we thought it was going to be fantastic.
But in fact, the meal served at the buffets is dissapointing, only the fruit and the bread is ok. The staff is rude, and I heard some of them complain of their low wages, I imagine they expect generous tips, but they do not deserve it from the service the provide... Strangely, most of the staff is from Colombia or Costa Rica, not from Mexico..., so the food is a strange mixture of flavors and presentations.
The best of all are the a-la-carte restaurants, specially the italian one, and the dessert bar from the brazilian restaurant. The portions are huge, so you can easily get sick.
There are like five or six bars (no beach service nor pool side service), but they are always crowded, frecuently with drunk guys...
The gym is ok, but is very little, so you have to wait to use the machines. The spa is really expensive.
The distances inside the hotel are really big, so be prepared to walk a lot, specially if your room is in blocks 4, 5 or 6. The beach is ok, but there are jellyfishes in the sea. My boyfriend and I got a sting. We hear that other four or five people were attacked too.
This hotel is really far from Puerto Vallarta, so do not expect to get there walking. In fact, the hotel is located in the middle of nowhere. We visited Bucerias, riding hotel's bikes, but there is nothing to do there. Bucerias is not a typical mexican town, so do not get cheated, its habitants are mainly foreigners and the mexican flavor is missing.
I do not plan to return to Royal Decameron... Yes, I love buffets, but I love good food, not just eating anything.

We have been to the RDC 3 times now. The first was in 04 and it was great, 2nd in 07 and it was fair, last 10/08 and it poor. There were 28 of us in one group because it was cheap. The food at dinner was leftovers from lunch and breakfast with some other mystery new food mixed in, Dinner was hit and miss, most of us chose to miss. I only drank beer but a lot of the others complained about the other drinks. Our room was comfortable but the insects weren't appreciated (cockroaches & spiders). Every other restaraunt we went to off the resort catered to how ever many people we had 6,7,10,13,16, even 26 at one time, but the resort would freek if we wanted to sit together. "We have table for 8 and we have table for 6, we don't have table for 13".
Maqnagement treated everyone like they were a thief, especially at check out time. They wanted our wrist bands 3 hours before the bus was to be there, I said "not likely" and advised some of our group to do the same.
On the good side the bar and other non management staff were great, the a/c worked great, the beer and weather was good, breakfast good (eggs).
Had a great time but only because of the people with us.......

Resort: Wonderfully well kept grounds. All pools immaculate and surrounding areas constantly groomed. Interesting architecture. Enjoyed the "Adults Only" pool. Much bigger than it appears. You need a map to navigate intially
Food definitely great. Fresh and interesting. Many different little places to have a snackie at.
Beach about a 4 out of 5 but only because I prefer soft white sand and turqoise waters but then it was the rainy season and it was still fun to play in the turf.
Staff wonderful to deal with and ever pleasantly happy to assist in whatever manner needed
Room. Clean.Maids were awesome and respectful

Am returning there Nov 3-10

Just got back from a week all inclusive at this Resort. Food was average but not as good as the other 2 places we have stayed at in Puerta Vallarta. Lots of bars and good bar staff, but no pool side service. Entertainment was ok but pretty late for those of us with young kids. Biggest complaint was pool hours. Pools were all closed by 8pm. Ridiculous. Each night several families were evicted at 8. Walking distance to Bucerias but a long way to downtown PV. All in all...too big a complex....too far out....so-so food and pool off limits after hours.
