“great week”
Reviewed March 25, 2014

Just got back from a great week at the royal decameron complex..our second time..might be shooting myself in the foot praising this place too much..and they'll raise the rates like crazy..lol..but..i gotta be honest..the staff..the grounds..the food..were all excellent..the rooms were very clean..comfortable..i heard someone say ..it wasnt a 5 star...well buddy..you didnt PAY for a 5 star...so dont expect it..having 5 pools is amazing..the adult pool was always quiet..lots of chairs and shade at the pools or beach..yea..the chairs are pretty uncomfortable..the only thing that could be improved on in my opinion...would be on inconsidarate visitors...and yes..they come in ALL nationalities..the people that come in yelling at all hours of the night..just saying..your not the only ones paying for your vacation..thanks again Royal decameron for a super stay..

Room Tip: might sound stupid..but buying an air matress for your beach chair could make or break your vacation

While there was nothing overly wrong with this resort, know its not a 4 star. Rooms where old concrete everywhere bathrooms where akward with window out into the hall. Food was ok have had way better. If you can get this for under 1000 its good but anything around 1500 you can find a much better place to stay!

I just returned from RD for the second time in 3 years with my husband and my 14 year old son. It is an older resort and is in need of some upgrades. Otherwise, the rooms are clean and tidy. The grounds are well-kept. Our first stay was in Block 2 and we recently stayed in Block 1 (beachfront), suite 1314. The view from our beachfront room was spectacular (calm mornings and beautiful sunsets). These rooms don't get any better than this! The beach is just steps away along with pools and buffets. We vacationed in the Mayan Riviera last March at the Gran Bahia Principe Akumul where the beach, pools and buffets are not necessarily in close proximity. Spring Break is busy with S-Trips and if you book during this time, be prepared for alot of grade 12 students (most are well-behaved). Stay out of Block 2 if you don't want to be rudely awakened by the noise of the buses bringing these kids back from their nightly excursions.Three years ago, my 2 boys (aged 11 and 13) were allowed to use boogie boards, kayaks without a parent. I'm not sure when the rules changed but this time my 14 year old wasn't allowed to use a kayak or go on a catamaran unless you're 16 years of age. Parents have to sign out boogie boards for under 16. Disappointing indeed! Yet, just down the beach a bit, he could operate the jetski without a parent. Go figure! The buffets are generally good. There is enough food to please all pallets. Service is always good. Staff are polite. Nightly entertainment wasn't as good as it was 3 years ago but far better at RD than the Gran Bahia Principe. You won't be disappointed with the dancers at RD. They are awesome!

Room Tip: If you want quiet, stay in Block 5 or 6. If you want true beachfront, pay the extra money to stay in...

We went as a family and had a wonderful time. Between the friendly staff, the nighly entertainment, and delicious food, we were very happy. If you aren't travelling with little ones, then I recommend the blocks furthest away from the main lobby because it's quieter. My ideal next visit will be in the block with the adults only pool. All the buffets are delicious but I also recommend making reservations at the restaurants too.

They kept the spring breakers all together at the far end of the resort.
The staff we spoke to, have all worked there for years, and are friendly, happy and efficient.
Bucerias is a great area to explore.
We booked a trip with Oscar off the beach, and it turned out great!
Food was Fantastic!
Ocean was fantastic, we surfed on boogie boards every day.
My only complaint is that we had 15 year olds with us and they wouldn't let them go on the kayaks or catamarans even with their parents. Which was too bad as they were not drinking and we were trying to keep them busy. They had fun though we rode the resorts bikes, took the bus, walked, explored, and surfed. Great location!
We would return!

Since it's been a year now, I can be more objective about the review. Several of us flew for a dear friend's wedding. As a group we are loud and admittedly probably obnoxious. We were kicked out of the "adult" pool at 5 pm everyday. Apparently we were disturbing the diners at the sushi a la carte. We were directed to the nearest other pool which was full of children. If we'd wanted to swim with children, we'd probably have made it a family vacation and all brought our own children, non?
Food was fine, rooms were fine, service was amazing (except for that whole "get out of the pool, the old people eating dinner at 5 pm find you offensive" thing).
Unless it is ridiculously cheap we won't be back. Our entire group paid to enjoy each other and spend time together. 20+ people tend to make a lot of noise. By shutting us down every night all you did was ensure this group would not return - and we've probably got a few more years of vacationing left in us than the octogenarians.

Just back from a 1 week stay at the Decameron and we loved it! It's an older resort but well cared for, very clean and the staff are wonderful. Many of the people we met were return customers. The location is excellent, close to the airport and walking distance to the market in Bucerias. Sayulita (cool surfing town) is a short 20-30 minute bus ride. You can catch the city bus at the top of the hill for about $1.40 each way. Great ride over the mountain, jungle and villages to Sayulita. Food was great and service excellent. Really there is nothing to complain about, sure the wifi could be faster but I'm not there to work. Some people may complain that it's not a 4 or 5 star resort but really these are individuals I would probably not want to vacation with anyway. Every where we turned we met wonderful people. So if your a family with young children you want to stay in block 6. If you want a quieter adult area block 5. Couples go for the ocean view upgrade. We plan to return ... Great value!
