Before booking we checked reviews of the Royal Decameron complex and went with an open mind. We heard check-ins were long delayed but because of only a few people from our flight, our check-in was a breeze. We heard that the building was a bit dated and yes that is indeed true, the staff work non stop keeping the property clean, swept and painted.
Our room was not a 4 star room, a minimalistic attitude is required as no coffee pot, fridge and a small tv. Comfortable yes but we come for the beach and weather not the room.(One big note is the rooms are closed up when guests leave and ours smelled musty for most of our stay-it was recommended by a frequent guest to bring febreze(?) or something like that in case of this).
Meals were good(not great) but we dined at the al a carts mostly, as I have no will power at buffets. Service and presentation were always top notch.
The beach is wonderful as we enjoy long walks after breakfast to start our day. There is no bar service on the beach so some personal effort is required to keep your drink on.
We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. We would recommend the massages just down the beach from the hotel ($20. for an hour) and heard that a trip to Sayulita is highly recommended(we heard too late to find out personally-it's small surfer town about 20 minutes away by local bus that costs about 2 bucks)
We would go back to this resort

Room Tip: Building 5+6 are by the adult-only pool and away from the ocean so they tend to be quieter but still...

We've been to RD 7 times now and always have an enjoyable stay. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The staff are very friendly. The rooms are very plain, with no extras but always clean. We had 2 bottles of water in our room every day and plenty of TP and soaps. They are definitely lacking in the facecloth department and on many occasions had none after housekeeping was finished in our room. We had a large room with a king bed which was actually quite comfortable. Bring you own alarm clock and shampoo. The only thing you get is a hair dryer. We were in Block 3, on the 3rd floor but unfortunately right beside the service road between Block 3 & 4. The room was VERY noisy, starting before 6:30am and steady until after dark. Bring ear plugs!! A room in Block 5 or 6 would have been a better choice for sure. The buffets got rather boring after a few days so we did the Steak House and Piccalo Italian, which were both excellent. All in all, a great vacation and we'll be definitely going back again. Make sure you leave the resort and check out Bucerias. Lots of wonderful restaurants and bars.

Room Tip: There is a service road between Block 3 & 4 so avoid rooms in that area. It's VERY noisy...

My boyfriend and I stayed here for our one week Dec 29th. We had a enjoyable stay. We found this property very busy and probably best for a younger croud. Lots of pool space and the massasges are fantastic. You can get a cheaper massage if you step off property and accross the street you can get a much cheaper & better massage!
Our Bell hop RAMON was amazing. He really made our triip! We would def come back due to him. The food was decent, do try to book into the Italian rest.
Exchanging money was a bit difficult- sometimes you needed your passport which was a hassle if you didnt have it on you.
We stayed in block 3, which was amazing. You could hear the waves crashing.
The night entertainment was great & the beach party was a good one too. We were there for NYE it poured with rain, however we stayed out all night in it. Was a once in a life time opportunity! The best NYE ever!
Thanks for all the friendly service & we look forward to returning & visiting with Ramon.

We waited almost 8 years since our first visit back in 2006. The grounds haven't changed except for the addition of block # 6 where we stayed known as the family section , our room was 6124 ground level facing the pool was very nice decorated compare to our first stayed in block 2 facing the ocean top level and furniture looked old back then. I would recommend block 5 (adult tranquility section) & 6 very quite locations with a short walk thru beautiful gardens to the beach max of 5 or 10 min. walk . Since our last visit besides the new building 6 block addition, there at block six new also is the spa / gym, Piccolo restaurant and the Mexican restaurant/ snack bar and mix drinks bar which closes at 10 p.m. New to the resort since our visit is the Rodizio restaurant Brazilian food next to block 2, it was an experience they serve you 8 different kinds of meats that came to your table each time cut them off from long rods hot from the oven, better come hungry and plan to skip lunch there is so much meat to eat !
Our favorite restaurants were the Italian Piccolo, the Mexican and the Tai / Japanese we ate at all five restaurants plus the 2 ala-carte the flamingo and the tropical our least favorite being the Brazilian just because it was too much meat to eat but it was all very good ! At the resort all of the food and presentations is excellent ! Tip when making reservations book 2 the morning of for that nite and the following nite, we got there at little before 6:30 a.m. people start streaming in , people keep tabs on who comes in first, etc. there is a person that comes at 7:30 you get a number tag, no more reservation are taken, then the person comes back at 8 and calls out numbers and reservations are taken for restaurants, you are allowed to taken up for others couples, I don't recall how many there is a board with the information where you come early in the morning at the tropical or flamingo building.
The spa being new we went 3 times, we did a couples section massage of 50 minutes, my husband went in to a relaxing message of 80 min. , I did two : a vitamin C facial with a mask for 80 mins and a face & head message for 25 min. all were very relaxing and over the top the best I ever had for the price paid for back home.
We didn't do the activities off the resort this second time although we did the first time , we just wanted to relax and to be a stress free vacation, Our Secret Hide away , I would describe it was heavenly and beautiful. There are so many activities to do if you want to be active, we really enjoyed yoga at the beach every morning for 1 hour it really helped to relieve and stretch after sleeping on hard beds we requested foam pads it helped we're used to sleeping on a soft bed that is super padded !
Make sure you go to see the nightly entertainment at the theater, the show they put are the best ! the young cast are great performers and are the same people who work at the activities center all day long to make the resort enjoyable for all ! The place is so cleaning the workers start before 6 cleaning up after 10, they are workaholics! one morning at 6:30 a.m. we saw a worker sweeping with a flashlight at the end of his broom. They are always cleaning & working all day long , they always greet you with a smile and are very friendly! We always tipped our lady who cleaned our room and she gave us an extra bottle water after our request for the room, one only get one . My husband sometimes tipped the waiters and bartenders leaving 1 dollar or 1 pesos, these people work very hard day & night to make your stay happy they deserve it !
This hotel resort is not your 4 star but the service, value, food and cleanliness is beyond ! We like the architectural structure of the buildings with bright Mexican colors and details elements of their cultural. There is reason why people come back more than once year after years, satisfaction ! It too will be your secret hideaway.

Room Tip: block 5 & 6 the quieter in the back with no ocean views, block 1 & 2 ocean view can be loud...

This was our 4th year in a row. Did see changes, free wifi but only in the lounge or by block 4 breezeway it's a start. Saw managers doing more checklist on cleanliness and staff. Them asking us to do surveys for feedback. The staff are wonderful they work so hard. Checking in after arriving 6 hrs late was fast and easy. They made sure we could eat a late supper which should have been closing but they left it open, thanks.
The rooms yes are still basic no shampoo etc, but the maid always had our room clean with the request of 4 towels and facecloth everyday. Oh yeah also had bottle water left or two. Tip them and service is great. Ours remember us from last year, we thought that was great. Nothing was stolen out of our room either.
The food always something to find. They could do some changes to the theme as we have them memorize. Shrimp should be added to the menu.
Pool lifeguards ok but should speak a little better English since they are needing to explain pool rules to people(not everyone know Spanish)
The show is nice but way to loud which then makes the base sound horrible needs to be turn down a few decimals.
The lounge needs to get back the other satellite dish to bring back the hockey games it was always great to watch the games there. Don't want to have to leave and go down the street to the bar to watch them there.
Block 3 is with the elevator.
The booze is okay.
It's a great resort simple but clean and the staff can't do enough for you.

This was our first stay at the royal decameron , travelled with a friend and my 16 year old daughter and we loved the resort. By bus ( it costs 14 pesos) it is a 30 min ride to the centre of Puerto Vallarta (malecon). The grounds are beautifully maintained, staff is very friendly and helpful, rooms are average but very clean.. we tipped housekeeping and always got extra towels & bottles of water. We stayed in block 4, third floor room at one end , close to all amenities, one of the lobbys right below us with free wi-fi, good signal (no wi-fi in the rooms). There is a lot of activities happening thru out the day at one of the pools, and in the evening from 9:30 to 11:00pm they have their nightly shows which are fantastic . After the show, you can always go to the club located behind the show theatre. This resort is walking distance to Bucerias, either walking on the beach (20 min) or taking the street in front of the hotel that leads directly into Bucerias ( they have a flea market there every sunday), very cute & charming mexican village. A couple of things I would point out is the extra fee you have to pay for the safe key,250 pesos which you pay at the cashier in the lobby of block 4 (thought that should be included) and the a la carte reservation system, which you have to come down early morning and take a number and wait to be called. If you are wanting to stay closer to puerto vallarta, then this is not the resort for you as it is further out 18K from the airport , but very accessible by bus (at the top of the street) or taxi (right outside the hotel) . The food @ the (2) buffet restaurants was very good and there was a different theme everynite, we didn't bother with the a la carte but were told the italian one was very good. Overall great resort, friendly, good food & entertainment, would stay there again.
