I recently stayed at the Royal Decameron in Nuevo Vallarta (Oct 19-26/13). I have stayed here at least 6 times but not recently.
The Resort has not changed much but they have added free wi-fi in lobby 4 and the lobby bar. The rooms are basic, no shampoo and limited english tv.
With the off-season, the hotel has sold itself at low cost to locals, and tour groups. There was little room in most of the pools, and the food at the buffets is slanted to them. The best pool to go to was the adult pool. No children and less people as most there at the resort were families.
While there you must walk the side street to the local town...Bucerias. Very interesting and if adventuresome, you can see how mexicans live. Also, down the beach towards the hotels are massage huts on the beach. They will do a full massage for $20US, but if you want to haggle, you might get it for $15US or $200 pesos.
This hotels was sold to me for a deal, and on that basis, was fine with it. Do not overpay. The food was just ok. I did not try the a la cartes.More
