this is the honest truth about the Royal Decameron. Get to know the staff as they will make your stay a whole lot better. This was my first time leaving Canada to a different country by airplane and what an amazing time it was!

I didnt expect much when I got there as the outdated and very colourful resort had thrown me off. Little did i know that everyone of the staff will treat you with the upmost respect. the service was honestly just top notch! if you go to the buffet beside block 4, look for Alejandro and tell him Alexio and Patricio sent you ;). he is honestly the best waiter(and ive had almost everyone).

the FOOD i wasnt expecting to be good but it was very decent! ignore all these people saying this place wasnt worth it because i will tell you the truth about what needs to change and be avoided.

-A La Carte
*Piccolo --> by far the best place to eat(italian BTW) Best service of all and is indoor with AC on those hot Mexican days

*Mexicano --> STAY AWAY!!! they only have two waitors and the food is absolutely intolerable!

*Jap Jap and Wok --> they are two A La Carte restaurants attached to one another with the same chef that overcooks the food. Beware

*Rodizio --> (Brazilian Concept) great food with great staff and amazing brazilian concept of serving food on skewers right on to your plate

Buffets --> if you are eating at a buffet, they both have amazing selection with a catch... Flamingos has very salty food and Block 4 Buffet has way too many people. go to block 3 Buffet Breakfast and lunch (ask for Alejandro the waiter for best service) and dinner to flamingos.

Room was very decent and in reviews people over exaggerate saying they are crap. they have amazing AC, Lock Safe and a TV. it is very Motel like with no mini fridge. Cleaners walk into your room even if you are in it and they all go in to clean even if you dont put up the sign which i found out to be pretty annoying.

Go to the Tiki hut bar beside Flamingos restaurant facing the beach for the best drinks on the resort! go watch all the shows with Looky Looky and Danny as hosts with great staff! very entertaining and very funny shows.

this resort is full of Canadians that just want to have a good time. it is very very safe at this resort i didnt lose a thing and nothing got stolen even when i left and forgot half my stuff like my phone at the restaurant.

I WILL GO BACK FOR SURE! that is the truth about this resort. there is so much to do there that you will never get bored! Viva El Mexico.

Room Tip: get a room on block 4, its in the middle of everything and it has wifi!!! block 5 is for the adults...

The price of our one week trip was so cheap that we couldn't say no. The rooms need updating but are clean and maintained well daily. The staff are the best part. Every single person we encountered were friendly and would do anything for you. Not one of them will linger in hopes of a tip - they do their job the best they can. I give them all huge credit for hospitality. The buffet is excellent. Each evening, there is a theme at dinner time - Italian, Mexican, etc. Coconut chicken is to die for.
The evening shows will be outstanding one night and a bit lame the next. Overall though, the entertainment is still entertainment. It beats sitting at home in front of the tv.
The beach is clean and swimmable with no issues. (No huge rocks or gross things.) There are lots of lounge chairs so there's no problem finding somewhere to put your towel and stuff. The pools are warm and clean - just awesome.
For the price, I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: We had a beachfront room - this was worth it because of the view and being close to everything! Room...

We JUST got off the plane after our week long vacation at the RDC. It was our second trip (went the same time last year). Here's a our Pro's list and a few tips:

Pros:
1)Cheap. For what you're getting (clean all-inclusive with a nice beach and within walking distance to a town) the price is awesome. If you need a quick Mexican getaway for a cheap price, this is it.

2)Lots of choices in food. I kept saying "can you believe that people say they can't find anything to eat here?!". There is always something. One morning all we had was fresh fruit and toast. Another we had some hashbrowns, bacon and eggs. For lunch we often had pasta (because we happened to be a bit "over zealous" the night before with the tequilas and needed simple food) or we made a nice salad with cucumbers and tomatoes (with a slice of pizza!). We loved the Brazilian a la carte. It was all meat and completely delicious.

Tips:
1) The vacation can be repetitive and you have to be the master of your own holiday. If you want some excitement then go and find it. There are lots of people offering to take you on excursions (Nolitours' rep was awesome). If you want to sit and read by the pool all day, you can do just that. It's as low key or as adventurous as YOU want to make it.

2) We were in Block #4. Same as last year. Awesome proximity to food and beach. But they seem to have opened a new resort next door to the block (I vaguely remember it being under construction last year). Every second night they had loud entertainment for a couple hours. It was fine, manageable, but a bit annoying. meh. Maybe try block #5 or #6 instead?

3)The drinks get pretty sweet and taste like syrupy mixes. Find something you like and stick with it (We drank mostly tequila, soda, with a splash of orange juice or mango juice and light bear) and be careful of quantity. It sneaks up on you with that heat...

4)Bring LOTS of sunscreen because it was expensive. $15 for a bottle even at WALMART! And P.S. Walmart is a lot more expensive than it was last year. A bottle of California red wine was the same price at the Walmart as it was in Vancouver. Weird. Not many deals...

5) Massages. Go to the huts along the beach (towards Bucerias). $20 for an hour. Awesome.

6) The flea market is fun and neat to see the stuff. BUT they try and lure you with the ol' "Hey you're from the Royal Decameron! I served you yesterday at the beach bar!". Don't fall for it.

Have fun!! It's worth NOT spending a fortune for sun and fun:) you can go back twice for the price!

Room Tip: Ask for quiet with a view.

We travelled from May 25-June1 to this resort and had a great time. This resort is the only one around so you feel like a local. Everyone around is absolutely friendly and it was very safe. We walked to Bucerias, which is about 25mins, and enjoyed every minute of it. Food was very tastey and always a great variety. The pork was just the best! The beach and pools were awesome; always a chair available and nice to have an adult only pool. The beach was clean, the only downfall were the people trying to sell you things constantly.. But not bad enough to ruin your time!

There is not a 24 hour snack bar, but there is a snack bar open between the buffet hours and available until 1am. We had the BEST bartender ever, Alejandra, who would always have fresh drinks ready when she saw you were low.
Rooms were clean, have to pay for the safe at 29pesos a day and no fridge, but very comfy and quiet. We were in Block 4 which I think was the best as we were local to all the buffets, pools, and bars. There are tables set up for buying souveniers at the pools in the evenings.. We bought 5 ponchos between us since they were just the best deal ($10!!)

Nightly entertainment was excellent and a lot of fun! Worth going to! Starts at 930pm and is different every night. We did the sunset sail for an excursion and love it!; the best sunset photographs!! We also did jet skiing which was sold right on the beach, quad trip which was right outside the resort, and a horse back ride.. Definitely haggle for lower prices! The quad ride was awesome; had tequila tasting and even a mexican shower before jumping in the pool. Just a lot of fun!!

We would absolutely return again! Did not feel like a tourist whatsoever and being the only resort in the area made the beach quiet and activities more enjoyable.

PS!! IF you like candy/chocolate/dried fruit go into Bucerias and there is a candy store with Gastavo as the owner.. SUPER delicious!

Room Tip: We requested a king sized bed and did receive it (not always the case though!). But block 4 was supe...

We were invited by our cousins and friends from Canada to come to Royal Decameron. We had read reviews about how bad it was but did not think it would that bad. It was awful, they skimped on water (only one bottle of water for 2 of us), There was no shampoo and tissue paper, no information on the resort and surrounding area, the food was very limited, I love fish, but they offered what seemed to be Tilapia most of the time. There was only one adult swimming pool which closed at 6 while the mixed kids/family pool was open til 8pm.

The staff was friendly and worked hard, and the pool ocean area where well kept.

Room Tip: Bldg 4 was OK

Great place to party as the bartenders and onsite nightclub are above average....I think that because this resort always has great deals it tends to attract a younger crowd looking to party.

The food is barely tolerable and will probably make you sick.

The beds are covered with a pillow top cover but looks like it has been there for centuries...yuck

Basically...if you are looking for a cheap vacation with some friends....this may be ok...
but if you are going on a romantic get a way or have small children...i would suggest forking out more money and going elsewhere.

Room Tip: if you do stay....dont stay close to the games room...you will hear the air hockey table ALL NIGHT L...

I just returned from a week stay in PV between May 25 - June 1st. We stayed at the Royal Decameron and would most certainly go back! We got a really great deal on our trip and we went with an open mind, therefore everything was better than expected. Prior to leaving we knew there wouldn't be all the typical amenities such as shampoo/a fridge in room etc. therefore we weren't disappointed when we arrived. We were provided bottled water every day. Just bring your own shampoo and soap and you'll be fine! Plus its just a short walk to any buffet in the morning to get a coffee! We were lucky enough and got a room in Block 5 which was beside the Adult Only pool. The rooms were basic but very clean, and we were provided clean towels every day. What more do you want? You also have the option of getting a key safe for your room for about 30$ for the week but we opted out on it. I kept most of my money and camera on me at all times and would lock up my Ipad in my suitcase. We had no issues with theft. We also never had a hard time finding a chair by the pool even when we woke up late. The grounds were very well maintained, staff were constantly cleaning and sweeping. They would clean the pool every night and morning and test the water throughout the day. I was very pleased to see how much they cared about the cleanliness of the hotel grounds as a whole.

The food was plentiful, I question people who say there is nothing to eat! There was an awesome salad bar and tons of fruit throughout the day (pineapple, lemon, cantaloupe, watermelon, grapes, bananas). If your not too picky there is certainly no lack of food. We were always able to find something we would like to eat. Also, since we read previous reviews so we booked only the Italian restaurant (Picollo) which was fantastic. Great meal (the caprese salad was so good!), amazing service, and delicious cappuccinos! We never had any gastrointestinal problems either :) There is WIFI in the main lobby area near the pool or you can take a short walk to either one of the sports bars for free WIFI at no cost. The people were very generous in giving us the password.

If you have a chance to go to the shows at the resort at night which begin at 930pm, I would highly recommend going, I typically find resort shows dreadful and hard to sit through at all, but the shows at this resort exceeded my expectations! I think the best i have seen. Excellent costumes and dancers! Very well done. If you are feeling adventurous in the day, I suggest taking the bus to puerto vallarta for the small fee of 3$ US one way for two people (it costs approx 30$ US by taxi to downtown PV). The bus was very safe, fast and we had not problems getting there. If you go to the tour company just below the sports bar they will give you a map with directions, and you just have to walk up the hill to the bus stop. I also recommend visiting Salyulita which was one of the highlights of our trip - you can also get there by bus for a small fee. We booked our excursions just below the bar with Joel who was very sweet and kind. We went to Rythyms of the night (keep in mind you get back after midnight if your thinking of booking multiple tours) but I highly recommend that one as well as the snokeling trip to Yalapa. The extreme adventure was also great fun!

Overall we had an amazing trip to Puerto Vallarta and don't have any complaints about the resort. This hotel is basic and has so much to offer, you just have to know where to look! The grounds are HUGE! I will definitely go back!

Room Tip: Rooms are much quieter in block 5
